1 F orasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;

Portanto, uma vez que Cristo sofreu corporalmente, armem-se também do mesmo pensamento, pois aquele que sofreu em seu corpo rompeu com o pecado,

2 t hat he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.

para que, no tempo que lhe resta, não viva mais para satisfazer os maus desejos humanos, mas sim para fazer a vontade de Deus.

3 F or the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:

No passado vocês já gastaram tempo suficiente fazendo o que agrada aos pagãos. Naquele tempo vocês viviam em libertinagem, na sensualidade, nas bebedeiras, orgias e farras, e na idolatria repugnante.

4 w herein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:

Eles acham estranho que vocês não se lancem com eles na mesma torrente de imoralidade, e por isso os insultam.

5 w ho shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.

Contudo, eles terão que prestar contas àquele que está pronto para julgar os vivos e os mortos.

6 F or for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.

Por isso mesmo o evangelho foi pregado também a mortos, para que eles, mesmo julgados no corpo segundo os homens, vivam pelo Espírito segundo Deus.

7 B ut the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.

O fim de todas as coisas está próximo. Portanto, sejam criteriosos e estejam alertas; dediquem-se à oração.

8 A nd above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.

Sobretudo, amem-se sinceramente uns aos outros, porque o amor perdoa muitíssimos pecados.

9 U se hospitality one to another without grudging.

Sejam mutuamente hospitaleiros, sem reclamação.

10 A s every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

Cada um exerça o dom que recebeu para servir os outros, administrando fielmente a graça de Deus em suas múltiplas formas.

11 I f any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Se alguém fala, faça-o como quem transmite a palavra de Deus. Se alguém serve, faça-o com a força que Deus provê, de forma que em todas as coisas Deus seja glorificado mediante Jesus Cristo, a quem sejam a glória e o poder para todo o sempre. Amém. Sofrendo por ser Cristão

12 B eloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:

Amados, não se surpreendam com o fogo que surge entre vocês para os provar, como se algo estranho lhes estivesse acontecendo.

13 b ut rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

Mas alegrem-se à medida que participam dos sofrimentos de Cristo, para que também, quando a sua glória for revelada, vocês exultem com grande alegria.

14 I f ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.

Se vocês são insultados por causa do nome de Cristo, felizes são vocês, pois o Espírito da glória, o Espírito de Deus, repousa sobre vocês.

15 B ut let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters.

Se algum de vocês sofre, que não seja como assassino, ladrão, criminoso, ou como quem se intromete em negócios alheios.

16 Y et if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.

Contudo, se sofre como cristão, não se envergonhe, mas glorifique a Deus por meio desse nome.

17 F or the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?

Pois chegou a hora de começar o julgamento pela casa de Deus; e, se começa primeiro conosco, qual será o fim daqueles que não obedecem ao evangelho de Deus?

18 A nd if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

E, “se ao justo é difícil ser salvo, que será do ímpio e pecador?”

19 W herefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.

Por isso mesmo, aqueles que sofrem de acordo com a vontade de Deus devem confiar sua vida ao seu fiel Criador e praticar o bem.
