1 A nd David spake unto the Lord the words of this song in the day that the Lord had delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul:

Davi cantou ao Senhor este cântico, quando ele o livrou das mãos de todos os seus inimigos e das mãos de Saul,

2 a nd he said, The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;

dizendo: “O Senhor é a minha rocha, a minha fortaleza e o meu libertador;

3 t he God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.

o meu Deus é a minha rocha, em que me refugio; o meu escudo e o meu poderoso salvador. Ele é a minha torre alta, o meu abrigo seguro. Tu, Senhor, és o meu salvador, e me salvas dos violentos.

4 I will call on the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

Clamo ao Senhor, que é digno de louvor, e sou salvo dos meus inimigos.

5 W hen the waves of death compassed me, the floods of ungodly men made me afraid;

“As ondas da morte me cercaram; as torrentes da destruição me aterrorizaram.

6 t he sorrows of hell compassed me about; the snares of death prevented me;

As cordas da sepultura me envolveram, as armadilhas da morte me confrontaram.

7 i n my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears.

Na minha angústia, clamei ao Senhor; clamei ao meu Deus. Do seu templo ele ouviu a minha voz; o meu grito de socorro chegou aos seus ouvidos.

8 T hen the earth shook and trembled; the foundations of heaven moved and shook, because he was wroth.

“A terra abalou-se e tremeu, os alicerces dos céus estremeceram; tremeram porque ele estava irado.

9 T here went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it.

Das suas narinas saiu fumaça; da sua boca saiu fogo consumidor; dele saíram brasas vivas e flamejantes.

10 H e bowed the heavens also, and came down; and darkness was under his feet.

Ele abriu os céus e desceu; nuvens escuras estavam debaixo dos seus pés.

11 A nd he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: and he was seen upon the wings of the wind.

Montou sobre um querubim e voou; elevou-se sobre as asas do vento.

12 A nd he made darkness pavilions round about him, dark waters, and thick clouds of the skies.

Pôs as trevas ao seu redor; das densas nuvens de chuva fez o seu abrigo.

13 T hrough the brightness before him were coals of fire kindled.

Do brilho da sua presença flamejavam carvões em brasa.

14 T he Lord thundered from heaven, and the most High uttered his voice.

Dos céus o Senhor trovejou; ressoou a voz do Altíssimo.

15 A nd he sent out arrows, and scattered them; lightning, and discomfited them.

Ele atirou flechas e dispersou os inimigos, arremessou raios e os fez bater em retirada.

16 A nd the channels of the sea appeared, the foundations of the world were discovered, at the rebuking of the Lord, at the blast of the breath of his nostrils.

Os vales apareceram, e os fundamentos da terra foram expostos, diante da repreensão do Senhor, com o forte sopro de suas narinas.

17 H e sent from above, he took me; he drew me out of many waters;

“Das alturas estendeu a mão e me segurou; tirou-me de águas profundas.

18 h e delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them that hated me: for they were too strong for me.

Livrou-me do meu inimigo poderoso, dos meus adversários, que eram fortes demais para mim.

19 T hey prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the Lord was my stay.

Eles me atacaram no dia da minha calamidade, mas o Senhor foi o meu amparo.

20 H e brought me forth also into a large place: he delivered me, because he delighted in me.

Deu-me ampla liberdade; livrou-me, pois me quer bem.

21 T he Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness: according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.

“O Senhor me tratou conforme a minha retidão; conforme a pureza das minhas mãos me recompensou.

22 F or I have kept the ways of the Lord, and have not wickedly departed from my God.

Pois guardei os caminhos do Senhor; não cometi a perversidade de afastar-me do meu Deus.

23 F or all his judgments were before me: and as for his statutes, I did not depart from them.

Todos os seus mandamentos estão diante de mim; não me afastei dos seus decretos.

24 I was also upright before him, and have kept myself from mine iniquity.

Tenho sido irrepreensível para com ele e guardei-me de pecar.

25 T herefore the Lord hath recompensed me according to my righteousness; according to my cleanness in his eye sight.

O Senhor recompensou-me segundo a minha retidão, conforme a pureza das minhas mãos perante ele.

26 W ith the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful, and with the upright man thou wilt shew thyself upright.

“Ao fiel te revelas fiel, ao irrepreensível te revelas irrepreensível,

27 W ith the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure; and with the froward thou wilt shew thyself unsavoury.

ao puro te revelas puro, mas ao perverso te revelas astuto.

28 A nd the afflicted people thou wilt save: but thine eyes are upon the haughty, that thou mayest bring them down.

Salvas os humildes, mas os teus olhos estão sobre os orgulhosos para os humilhar.

29 F or thou art my lamp, O Lord: and the Lord will lighten my darkness.

Tu és a minha lâmpada, ó Senhor! O Senhor ilumina-me as trevas.

30 F or by thee I have run through a troop: by my God have I leaped over a wall.

Contigo posso avançar contra uma tropa; com o meu Deus posso transpor muralhas.

31 A s for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him.

“Este é o Deus cujo caminho é perfeito; a palavra do Senhor é comprovadamente genuína. Ele é escudo para todos os que nele se refugiam.

32 F or who is God, save the Lord ? and who is a rock, save our God?

Pois quem é Deus além do Senhor ? E quem é Rocha senão o nosso Deus?

33 G od is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect.

É Deus quem me reveste de força e torna perfeito o meu caminho.

34 H e maketh my feet like hinds’ feet: and setteth me upon my high places.

Ele me faz correr veloz como a gazela e me firma os passos nos lugares altos.

35 H e teacheth my hands to war; so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms.

É ele que treina as minhas mãos para a batalha, e assim os meus braços vergam o arco de bronze.

36 T hou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy gentleness hath made me great.

Tu me dás o teu escudo de livramento; a tua ajuda me fez forte.

37 T hou hast enlarged my steps under me; so that my feet did not slip.

Alargas sob mim o meu caminho, para que os meus tornozelos não se torçam.

38 I have pursued mine enemies, and destroyed them; and turned not again until I had consumed them.

“Persegui os meus inimigos e os derrotei; não voltei enquanto não foram destruídos.

39 A nd I have consumed them, and wounded them, that they could not arise: yea, they are fallen under my feet.

Esmaguei-os completamente, e não puderam levantar-se; caíram debaixo dos meus pés.

40 F or thou hast girded me with strength to battle: them that rose up against me hast thou subdued under me.

Tu me revestiste de força para a batalha; fizeste cair aos meus pés os meus adversários.

41 T hou hast also given me the necks of mine enemies, that I might destroy them that hate me.

Fizeste que os meus inimigos fugissem de mim; destruí os que me odiavam.

42 T hey looked, but there was none to save; even unto the Lord, but he answered them not.

Gritaram por socorro, mas não havia quem os salvasse; gritaram ao Senhor, mas ele não respondeu.

43 T hen did I beat them as small as the dust of the earth, I did stamp them as the mire of the street, and did spread them abroad.

Eu os reduzi a pó, como o pó da terra; esmaguei-os e os amassei como a lama das ruas.

44 T hou also hast delivered me from the strivings of my people, thou hast kept me to be head of the heathen: a people which I knew not shall serve me.

“Tu me livraste dos ataques do meu povo; preservaste-me como líder de nações. Um povo que eu não conhecia me é sujeito.

45 S trangers shall submit themselves unto me: as soon as they hear, they shall be obedient unto me.

Estrangeiros me bajulam; assim que me ouvem, me obedecem.

46 S trangers shall fade away, and they shall be afraid out of their close places.

Todos eles perdem a coragem; saem tremendo das suas fortalezas.

47 T he Lord liveth; and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of the rock of my salvation.

“O Senhor vive! Bendita seja a minha Rocha! Exaltado seja Deus, a Rocha que me salva!

48 I t is God that avengeth me, and that bringeth down the people under me,

Este é o Deus que em meu favor executa vingança, que sujeita nações ao meu poder,

49 a nd that bringeth me forth from mine enemies: thou also hast lifted me up on high above them that rose up against me: thou hast delivered me from the violent man.

que me livrou dos meus inimigos. Tu me exaltaste acima dos meus agressores; de homens violentos me libertaste.

50 T herefore I will give thanks unto thee, O Lord, among the heathen, and I will sing praises unto thy name.

Por isso te louvarei entre as nações, ó Senhor; cantarei louvores ao teu nome.

51 H e is the tower of salvation for his king: and sheweth mercy to his anointed, unto David, and to his seed for evermore.

Ele concede grandes vitórias ao seu rei; é bondoso com o seu ungido, com Davi e seus descendentes para sempre”.
