1 T hen came David to Nob to Ahimelech the priest: and Ahimelech was afraid at the meeting of David, and said unto him, Why art thou alone, and no man with thee?

Davi foi falar com o sacerdote Aimeleque, em Nobe. Aimeleque tremia de medo quando se encontrou com ele, e perguntou: “Por que você está sozinho? Ninguém veio com você?”

2 A nd David said unto Ahimelech the priest, The king hath commanded me a business, and hath said unto me, Let no man know any thing of the business whereabout I send thee, and what I have commanded thee: and I have appointed my servants to such and such a place.

Respondeu Davi: “O rei me encarregou de uma certa missão e me disse: ‘Ninguém deve saber coisa alguma sobre sua missão e sobre as suas instruções’. E eu ordenei aos meus soldados que se encontrassem comigo num certo lugar.

3 N ow therefore what is under thine hand? give me five loaves of bread in mine hand, or what there is present.

Agora, então, o que você pode oferecer-me? Dê-me cinco pães ou algo que tiver”.

4 A nd the priest answered David, and said, There is no common bread under mine hand, but there is hallowed bread; if the young men have kept themselves at least from women.

O sacerdote, contudo, respondeu a Davi: “Não tenho pão comum; somente pão consagrado; se os soldados não tiveram relações com mulheres recentemente, podem comê-lo”.

5 A nd David answered the priest, and said unto him, Of a truth women have been kept from us about these three days, since I came out, and the vessels of the young men are holy, and the bread is in a manner common, yea, though it were sanctified this day in the vessel.

Davi respondeu: “Certamente que não, pois esse é o nosso costume sempre que saímos em campanha. Não tocamos em mulher. Esses homens mantém o corpo puro mesmo em missões comuns. Quanto mais hoje!”

6 S o the priest gave him hallowed bread: for there was no bread there but the shewbread, that was taken from before the Lord, to put hot bread in the day when it was taken away.

Então, o sacerdote lhe deu os pães consagrados, visto que não havia outro além do pão da Presença, que era retirado de diante do Senhor e substituído por pão quente no dia em que era tirado.

7 N ow a certain man of the servants of Saul was there that day, detained before the Lord; and his name was Doeg, an Edomite, the chiefest of the herdmen that belonged to Saul.

Aconteceu que um dos servos de Saul estava ali naquele dia, cumprindo seus deveres diante do Senhor; era o edomita Doegue, chefe dos pastores de Saul.

8 A nd David said unto Ahimelech, And is there not here under thine hand spear or sword? for I have neither brought my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king’s business required haste.

Davi perguntou a Aimeleque: “Você tem uma lança ou uma espada aqui? Não trouxe minha espada nem qualquer outra arma, pois o rei exigiu urgência”.

9 A nd the priest said, The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom thou slewest in the valley of Elah, behold, it is here wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod: if thou wilt take that, take it: for there is no other save that here. And David said, There is none like that; give it me.

O sacerdote respondeu: “A espada de Golias, o filisteu que você matou no vale de Elá, está enrolada num pano atrás do colete sacerdotal. Se quiser, pegue-a; não há nenhuma outra espada”. Davi disse: “Não há outra melhor; dê-me essa espada”. Davi Foge para Gate

10 A nd David arose, and fled that day for fear of Saul, and went to Achish the king of Gath.

Naquele dia, Davi fugiu de Saul e foi procurar Aquis, rei de Gate.

11 A nd the servants of Achish said unto him, Is not this David the king of the land? did they not sing one to another of him in dances, saying, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands?

Todavia os conselheiros de Aquis lhe disseram: “Não é este Davi, o rei da terra de Israel? Não é aquele acerca de quem cantavam em suas danças: ‘Saul abateu seus milhares, e Davi suas dezenas de milhares’?”

12 A nd David laid up these words in his heart, and was sore afraid of Achish the king of Gath.

Davi levou a sério aquelas palavras e ficou com muito medo de Aquis, rei de Gate.

13 A nd he changed his behaviour before them, and feigned himself mad in their hands, and scrabbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down upon his beard.

Por isso, na presença deles fingiu que estava louco; enquanto esteve com eles, agiu como um louco, riscando as portas da cidade e deixando escorrer saliva pela barba.

14 T hen said Achish unto his servants, Lo, ye see the man is mad: wherefore then have ye brought him to me?

Aquis disse a seus conselheiros: “Vejam este homem! Ele está louco! Por que trazê-lo aqui?

15 H ave I need of mad men, that ye have brought this fellow to play the mad man in my presence? shall this fellow come into my house?

Será que me faltam loucos para que vocês o tragam para agir como doido na minha frente? O que ele veio fazer no meu palácio?”
