1 T hen came David to Nob to Ahimelech the priest: and Ahimelech was afraid at the meeting of David, and said unto him, Why art thou alone, and no man with thee?

¶ Y vino David a Nob, a Ahimelec sacerdote; y Ahimelec salió a recibirlo con miedo, y le dijo: ¿Cómo vienes tú solo, y nadie contigo?

2 A nd David said unto Ahimelech the priest, The king hath commanded me a business, and hath said unto me, Let no man know any thing of the business whereabout I send thee, and what I have commanded thee: and I have appointed my servants to such and such a place.

Y respondió David al sacerdote Ahimelec: El rey me encomendó un negocio, y me dijo: Nadie sepa cosa alguna de este negocio a que yo te envío, y que yo te he mandado; y yo les señalé a los criados un cierto lugar.

3 N ow therefore what is under thine hand? give me five loaves of bread in mine hand, or what there is present.

Ahora, pues, ¿qué tienes a mano? Dame cinco panes en mi mano, o lo que se hallare.

4 A nd the priest answered David, and said, There is no common bread under mine hand, but there is hallowed bread; if the young men have kept themselves at least from women.

Y el sacerdote respondió a David, y dijo: No tengo pan común a la mano; solamente tengo pan sagrado; mas lo daré si los criados se han guardado a lo menos de mujeres.

5 A nd David answered the priest, and said unto him, Of a truth women have been kept from us about these three days, since I came out, and the vessels of the young men are holy, and the bread is in a manner common, yea, though it were sanctified this day in the vessel.

Y David respondió al sacerdote, y le dijo: Cierto las mujeres nos han sido vedadas desde ayer y desde anteayer cuando salí, y los vasos de los mozos fueron santos, aunque el camino es profano; cuanto más que hoy será santificado con los vasos.

6 S o the priest gave him hallowed bread: for there was no bread there but the shewbread, that was taken from before the Lord, to put hot bread in the day when it was taken away.

Así el sacerdote le dio el pan sagrado, porque allí no había otro pan que los panes de la proposición, los cuales habían sido quitados de delante del SEÑOR, para que se pusieran panes calientes el día que los otros fueron quitados.

7 N ow a certain man of the servants of Saul was there that day, detained before the Lord; and his name was Doeg, an Edomite, the chiefest of the herdmen that belonged to Saul.

Aquel día estaba allí uno de los siervos de Saúl cumpliendo algún voto delante del SEÑOR, el nombre del cual era Doeg, idumeo, principal de los pastores de Saúl.

8 A nd David said unto Ahimelech, And is there not here under thine hand spear or sword? for I have neither brought my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king’s business required haste.

Y David dijo a Ahimelec: ¿No tienes aquí a mano lanza o espada? Porque no tomé en mi mano mi espada ni mis armas, por cuanto el mandamiento del rey era apremiante.

9 A nd the priest said, The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom thou slewest in the valley of Elah, behold, it is here wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod: if thou wilt take that, take it: for there is no other save that here. And David said, There is none like that; give it me.

Y el sacerdote respondió: La espada de Goliat el filisteo, que tú venciste en el valle del Alcornoque, está aquí envuelta en un velo detrás del efod; si tú quieres tomarla, tómala; porque aquí no hay otra sino esa. Y dijo David: No hay otra tal; dámela.

10 A nd David arose, and fled that day for fear of Saul, and went to Achish the king of Gath.

¶ Y levantándose David aquel día, huyó de la presencia de Saúl, y se fue a Aquis rey de Gat.

11 A nd the servants of Achish said unto him, Is not this David the king of the land? did they not sing one to another of him in dances, saying, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands?

Y los siervos de Aquis le dijeron: ¿No es éste David, el rey de la tierra? ¿No es éste a quien cantaban en los corros, diciendo: Hirió Saúl sus miles, y David sus diez miles?

12 A nd David laid up these words in his heart, and was sore afraid of Achish the king of Gath.

Y David puso en su corazón estas palabras, y tuvo gran temor de Aquis rey de Gat.

13 A nd he changed his behaviour before them, and feigned himself mad in their hands, and scrabbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down upon his beard.

Y mudó su habla delante de ellos, y fingió ser demente entre las manos de ellos, y escribía en las portadas de las puertas, dejando correr su saliva por su barba.

14 T hen said Achish unto his servants, Lo, ye see the man is mad: wherefore then have ye brought him to me?

Y dijo Aquis a sus siervos: He aquí, estáis viendo un hombre demente; ¿por qué lo habéis traído a mí?

15 H ave I need of mad men, that ye have brought this fellow to play the mad man in my presence? shall this fellow come into my house?

¿Acaso me faltan dementes, para que hayáis traído éste que hiciera locuras delante de mí? ¿había de venir éste a mi casa?
