1 T hen Josiah celebrated the Passover to the Lord in Jerusalem, and they slaughtered the Passover animals on the fourteenth day of the first month.

Giosia celebrò la Pasqua in onore del Signore a Gerusalemme, e l’agnello pasquale fu sacrificato il quattordicesimo giorno del primo mese.

2 H e set the priests in their offices and encouraged them in the service of the house of the Lord.

Egli stabilì i sacerdoti nei loro compiti e li incoraggiò a compiere il servizio nella casa del Signore.

3 H e also said to the Levites who taught all Israel and who were holy to the Lord, “Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David king of Israel built; it will be a burden on your shoulders no longer. Now serve the Lord your God and His people Israel.

Disse ai Leviti che insegnavano a tutto Israele ed erano consacrati al Signore: «Collocate pure l’arca santa nella casa che Salomone, figlio di Davide, re d’Israele, ha costruita; voi non dovete più portarla sulle spalle. Ora servite il Signore, vostro Dio, e il suo popolo Israele;

4 P repare yourselves by your fathers’ households in your divisions, according to the writing of David king of Israel and according to the writing of his son Solomon.

tenetevi pronti secondo le vostre case patriarcali, secondo le vostre classi, conformemente a quello che hanno disposto per iscritto Davide, re d’Israele, e Salomone suo figlio.

5 M oreover, stand in the holy place according to the sections of the fathers’ households of your brethren the lay people, and according to the Levites, by division of a father’s household.

Statevene nel santuario secondo i rami delle case patriarcali dei vostri fratelli, figli del popolo, e secondo la classificazione della casa paterna dei Leviti.

6 N ow slaughter the Passover animals, sanctify yourselves and prepare for your brethren to do according to the word of the Lord by Moses.”

Sacrificate la Pasqua, santificatevi e preparatela per i vostri fratelli, conformandovi alla parola del Signore trasmessa per mezzo di Mosè».

7 J osiah contributed to the lay people, to all who were present, flocks of lambs and young goats, all for the Passover offerings, numbering 30, 000 plus 3, 000 bulls; these were from the king’s possessions.

Giosia diede alla gente del popolo, a tutti quelli che si trovavano là, del bestiame minuto: agnelli e capretti in numero di trentamila, tutti per la Pasqua, e tremila buoi. Tutto questo fu prelevato da quanto apparteneva al re.

8 H is officers also contributed a freewill offering to the people, the priests and the Levites. Hilkiah and Zechariah and Jehiel, the officials of the house of God, gave to the priests for the Passover offerings 2, 600 from the flocks and 300 bulls.

I suoi prìncipi fecero anch’essi un dono spontaneo al popolo, ai sacerdoti e ai Leviti. Chilchia, Zaccaria e Ieiel, conduttori della casa di Dio, diedero ai sacerdoti, per i sacrifici della Pasqua, duemilaseicento capi di bestiame minuto e trecento buoi.

9 C onaniah also, and Shemaiah and Nethanel, his brothers, and Hashabiah and Jeiel and Jozabad, the officers of the Levites, contributed to the Levites for the Passover offerings 5, 000 from the flocks and 500 bulls.

Conania, Semaia e Netaneel suoi fratelli, e Casabia, Ieiel e Iozabad, capi dei Leviti, diedero ai Leviti, per i sacrifici della Pasqua, cinquemila capi di bestiame minuto e cinquecento buoi.

10 S o the service was prepared, and the priests stood at their stations and the Levites by their divisions according to the king’s command.

Così, dopo aver predisposto il servizio, i sacerdoti si misero al loro posto; e così pure i Leviti, secondo le loro classi, conformemente all’ordine del re.

11 T hey slaughtered the Passover animals, and while the priests sprinkled the blood received from their hand, the Levites skinned them.

Poi fu sacrificata la Pasqua; i sacerdoti sparsero il sangue ricevuto dalle mani dei Leviti e questi scorticarono le vittime.

12 T hen they removed the burnt offerings that they might give them to the sections of the fathers’ households of the lay people to present to the Lord, as it is written in the book of Moses. They did this also with the bulls.

I Leviti misero da parte quello che doveva essere bruciato, per darlo ai figli del popolo, secondo i rami delle case paterne, perché l’offrissero al Signore, secondo quanto è scritto nel libro di Mosè. E lo stesso fecero per i buoi.

13 S o they roasted the Passover animals on the fire according to the ordinance, and they boiled the holy things in pots, in kettles, in pans, and carried them speedily to all the lay people.

Poi arrostirono le vittime pasquali sul fuoco, secondo quanto è prescritto; ma le altre vivande consacrate le cossero in pignatte, in caldaie e in pentole, e si affrettarono a portarle a tutti i figli del popolo.

14 A fterwards they prepared for themselves and for the priests, because the priests, the sons of Aaron, were offering the burnt offerings and the fat until night; therefore the Levites prepared for themselves and for the priests, the sons of Aaron.

Poi prepararono la Pasqua per se stessi e per i sacerdoti, perché i sacerdoti, figli di Aaronne, furono occupati fino alla notte a mettere sull’altare ciò che doveva essere bruciato e il grasso; perciò i Leviti fecero i preparativi per se stessi e per i sacerdoti, figli di Aaronne.

15 T he singers, the sons of Asaph, were also at their stations according to the command of David, Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun the king’s seer; and the gatekeepers at each gate did not have to depart from their service, because the Levites their brethren prepared for them.

I cantori, figli di Asaf, erano al loro posto, conformemente all’ordine di Davide, di Asaf, di Eman e di Iedutun, il veggente del re; i portinai stavano a ciascuna porta; essi non ebbero bisogno d’allontanarsi dal loro servizio, perché i Leviti, loro fratelli, preparavano la Pasqua per loro.

16 S o all the service of the Lord was prepared on that day to celebrate the Passover, and to offer burnt offerings on the altar of the Lord according to the command of King Josiah.

Così, in quel giorno, tutto il servizio del Signore fu predisposto per fare la Pasqua e per offrire olocausti sull’altare del Signore, conformemente all’ordine del re Giosia.

17 T hus the sons of Israel who were present celebrated the Passover at that time, and the Feast of Unleavened Bread seven days.

I figli d’Israele che si trovavano là celebrarono allora la Pasqua e la festa degli Azzimi per sette giorni.

18 T here had not been celebrated a Passover like it in Israel since the days of Samuel the prophet; nor had any of the kings of Israel celebrated such a Passover as Josiah did with the priests, the Levites, all Judah and Israel who were present, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

Nessuna Pasqua come quella era stata celebrata in Israele dai giorni del profeta Samuele; né alcuno dei re d’Israele aveva celebrato una Pasqua pari a quella celebrata da Giosia, dai sacerdoti e dai Leviti, da tutto Giuda e Israele che si trovavano là e dagli abitanti di Gerusalemme.

19 I n the eighteenth year of Josiah’s reign this Passover was celebrated. Josiah Dies in Battle

Questa Pasqua fu celebrata il diciottesimo anno del regno di Giosia. Giosia ferito mortalmente dagli Egiziani

20 A fter all this, when Josiah had set the temple in order, Neco king of Egypt came up to make war at Carchemish on the Euphrates, and Josiah went out to engage him.

Dopo tutto questo, quando Giosia ebbe restaurato il tempio, Neco, re d’Egitto, salì per combattere a Carchemis, sull’Eufrate; e Giosia marciò contro di lui.

21 B ut Neco sent messengers to him, saying, “ What have we to do with each other, O King of Judah? I am not coming against you today but against the house with which I am at war, and God has ordered me to hurry. Stop for your own sake from interfering with God who is with me, so that He will not destroy you.”

Ma Neco gli inviò dei messaggeri per dirgli: «Che c’è fra me e te, o re di Giuda? Io non salgo oggi contro di te, ma contro una casa con la quale sono in guerra; e Dio mi ha comandato di far presto. Bada dunque di non opporti a Dio, il quale è con me, affinché egli non ti distrugga».

22 H owever, Josiah would not turn away from him, but disguised himself in order to make war with him; nor did he listen to the words of Neco from the mouth of God, but came to make war on the plain of Megiddo.

Ma Giosia non volle tornare indietro; anzi, si travestì per assalirlo e non diede ascolto alle parole di Neco, che venivano dalla bocca di Dio. E venne a dar battaglia nella valle di Meghiddo.

23 T he archers shot King Josiah, and the king said to his servants, “Take me away, for I am badly wounded.”

Gli arcieri tirarono al re Giosia; e il re disse ai suoi servitori: «Portatemi via di qui, perché sono ferito gravemente».

24 S o his servants took him out of the chariot and carried him in the second chariot which he had, and brought him to Jerusalem where he died and was buried in the tombs of his fathers. All Judah and Jerusalem mourned for Josiah.

I suoi servitori lo tolsero dal carro e lo misero sopra un secondo carro che era pure suo, e lo condussero a Gerusalemme. E morì, e fu sepolto nella tomba dei suoi padri. Tutto Giuda e Gerusalemme piansero Giosia.

25 T hen Jeremiah chanted a lament for Josiah. And all the male and female singers speak about Josiah in their lamentations to this day. And they made them an ordinance in Israel; behold, they are also written in the Lamentations.

Geremia compose un lamento su Giosia; e tutti i cantori e tutte le cantanti hanno parlato di Giosia nei loro lamenti fino a oggi, tanto da diventarne un’usanza in Israele. Essi si trovano scritti tra i Lamenti.

26 N ow the rest of the acts of Josiah and his deeds of devotion as written in the law of the Lord,

Il rimanente delle azioni di Giosia, le sue opere pie secondo i precetti della legge del Signore,

27 a nd his acts, first to last, behold, they are written in the Book of the Kings of Israel and Judah.
