1 V erdad digo en Cristo, no miento, y mi conciencia da testimonio conmigo en el Espíritu Santo,

I am telling the truth in Christ, I am not lying, my conscience testifies with me in the Holy Spirit,

2 d e que tengo gran tristeza y continuo dolor en mi corazón.

that I have great sorrow and unceasing grief in my heart.

3 P orque desearía yo mismo ser anatema, separado de Cristo, por amor a mis hermanos, los que son mis parientes según la carne;

For I could wish that I myself were accursed, separated from Christ for the sake of my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh,

4 q ue son israelitas, de los cuales son la adopción, la gloria, el pacto, la promulgación de la ley, el culto y las promesas;

who are Israelites, to whom belongs the adoption as sons, and the glory and the covenants and the giving of the Law and the temple service and the promises,

5 d e quienes son los patriarcas, y de los cuales, según la carne, procede Cristo, el cual es Dios sobre todas las cosas, bendito por los siglos. Amén.

whose are the fathers, and from whom is the Christ according to the flesh, who is over all, God blessed forever. Amen.

6 N o es que la palabra de Dios haya fallado; porque no todos los que descienden de Israel son israelitas,

But it is not as though the word of God has failed. For they are not all Israel who are descended from Israel;

7 n i por ser descendientes de Abraham, son todos hijos; sino que: En Isaac te será llamada descendencia.

nor are they all children because they are Abraham’s descendants, but: “ through Isaac your descendants will be named.”

8 E sto es: no son hijos de Dios los que son hijos según la carne, sino que son los hijos según la promesa los que son contados como descendientes.

That is, it is not the children of the flesh who are children of God, but the children of the promise are regarded as descendants.

9 P orque la palabra de la promesa es esta: Por este tiempo vendré, y Sara tendrá un hijo.

For this is the word of promise: “ At this time I will come, and Sarah shall have a son.”

10 Y no sólo esto, sino también Rebeca cuando concibió de uno, de Isaac nuestro padre

And not only this, but there was Rebekah also, when she had conceived twins by one man, our father Isaac;

11 ( pues no habían aún nacido, ni habían obrado aún ni bien ni mal, para que el propósito de Dios conforme a la elección permaneciese, no en virtud de obras, sino de Aquel que llama),

for though the twins were not yet born and had not done anything good or bad, so that God’s purpose according to His choice would stand, not because of works but because of Him who calls,

12 s e le dijo: El mayor servirá al menor.

it was said to her, “ The older will serve the younger.”

13 C omo está escrito: A Jacob amé, mas a Esaú aborrecí.

Just as it is written, “ Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.”

14 ¿ Qué, pues, diremos? ¿Acaso hay injusticia en Dios? ¡En ninguna manera!

What shall we say then? There is no injustice with God, is there? May it never be!

15 P ues a Moisés dice: Tendré misericordia del que yo tenga misericordia, y me compadeceré del que yo me compadezca.

For He says to Moses, “ I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”

16 A sí que no depende del que quiere, ni del que corre, sino de Dios que tiene compasión.

So then it does not depend on the man who wills or the man who runs, but on God who has mercy.

17 P orque la Escritura dice a Faraón: Para esto mismo te he levantado, para mostrar en ti mi poder, y para que mi nombre sea anunciado por toda la tierra.

For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, “ For this very purpose I raised you up, to demonstrate My power in you, and that My name might be proclaimed throughout the whole earth.”

18 D e manera que de quien quiere, tiene compasión, y al que quiere endurecer, endurece.

So then He has mercy on whom He desires, and He hardens whom He desires.

19 E ntonces me dirás: ¿Por qué, pues, lanza reproches?; porque ¿quién ha resistido a su designio?

You will say to me then, “ Why does He still find fault? For who resists His will?”

20 E n todo caso, oh hombre, ¿quién eres tú, para que alterques con Dios? ¿Acaso dirá el vaso de barro al que lo formó: Por qué me has hecho así?

On the contrary, who are you, O man, who answers back to God? The thing molded will not say to the molder, “Why did you make me like this,” will it?

21 ¿ O no tiene potestad el alfarero sobre el barro, para hacer de la misma masa un vaso para uso honroso y otro para uso despreciable?

Or does not the potter have a right over the clay, to make from the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for common use?

22 ¿ Y qué, si Dios, queriendo mostrar su ira y hacer notorio su poder, soportó con mucha paciencia los vasos de ira preparados para destrucción,

What if God, although willing to demonstrate His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction?

23 y para hacer notorias las riquezas de su gloria, las mostró para con los vasos de misericordia que él preparó de antemano para gloria,

And He did so to make known the riches of His glory upon vessels of mercy, which He prepared beforehand for glory,

24 a los cuales también ha llamado, esto es, a nosotros, no sólo de los judíos, sino también de los gentiles?

even us, whom He also called, not from among Jews only, but also from among Gentiles.

25 C omo también en Oseas dice: Llamaré pueblo mío al que no era mi pueblo, Y a la no amada, amada.

As He says also in Hosea, “ I will call those who were not My people, ‘My people,’ And her who was not beloved, ‘beloved.’”

26 Y en el lugar donde se les dijo: Vosotros no sois pueblo mío, Allí serán llamados hijos del Dios viviente.

“ And it shall be that in the place where it was said to them, ‘you are not My people,’ There they shall be called sons of the living God.”

27 T ambién Isaías clama tocante a Israel: Aunque sea el número de los hijos de Israel como la arena del mar, tan sólo el remanente será salvo;

Isaiah cries out concerning Israel, “ Though the number of the sons of Israel be like the sand of the sea, it is the remnant that will be saved;

28 p orque el Señor ejecutará su sentencia sobre la tierra cabalmente y con brevedad.

for the Lord will execute His word on the earth, thoroughly and quickly.”

29 Y como predijo Isaías: Si el Señor de los ejércitos no nos hubiera dejado descendencia, Habríamos venido a ser como Sodoma, y seríamos semejantes a Gomorra. Razón del tropiezo de Israel

And just as Isaiah foretold, “ Unless the Lord of Sabaoth had left to us a posterity, We would have become like Sodom, and would have resembled Gomorrah.”

30 ¿ Qué, pues, diremos? Que los gentiles, que no iban tras la justicia, han alcanzado la justicia, es decir, la justicia que proviene de la fe;

What shall we say then? That Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, attained righteousness, even the righteousness which is by faith;

31 m as Israel, que iba tras una ley de justicia, no la alcanzó.

but Israel, pursuing a law of righteousness, did not arrive at that law.

32 ¿ Por qué? Porque iban tras ella no por fe, sino como por obras de la ley. Tropezaron en la piedra de tropiezo,

Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as though it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone,

33 c omo está escrito: He aquí que pongo en Sión piedra de tropiezo y roca de caída; Y el que crea en él, no será avergonzado.

just as it is written, “ Behold, I lay in Zion a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense, And he who believes in Him will not be disappointed.”
