1 ¡ Vamos ahora, ricos! Llorad y aullad por las miserias que están a punto de sobreveniros.

Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries which are coming upon you.

2 V uestras riquezas se han podrido, y vuestras ropas están comidas de polilla.

Your riches have rotted and your garments have become moth-eaten.

3 V uestro oro y plata se han enmohecido; y su moho testificará contra vosotros, y devorará vuestras carnes como fuego. Habéis acumulado tesoros en los últimos días.

Your gold and your silver have rusted; and their rust will be a witness against you and will consume your flesh like fire. It is in the last days that you have stored up your treasure!

4 M irad: el jornal de los obreros que han cosechado vuestras tierras, el cual ha sido retenido por vosotros, está clamando, y los clamores de los que trabajaron en la cosecha han entrado en los oídos del Señor de los ejércitos.

Behold, the pay of the laborers who mowed your fields, and which has been withheld by you, cries out against you; and the outcry of those who did the harvesting has reached the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.

5 H abéis vivido en deleites sobre la tierra, y sido disolutos; habéis engordado vuestros corazones como en día de matanza.

You have lived luxuriously on the earth and led a life of wanton pleasure; you have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter.

6 H abéis condenado y dado muerte al justo, y él no os hace resistencia. Exhortación a la paciencia y oración

You have condemned and put to death the righteous man; he does not resist you. Exhortation

7 P or tanto, hermanos, tened paciencia hasta la venida del Señor. Mirad cómo el labrador espera el precioso fruto de la tierra, aguardándolo con paciencia hasta que reciba la lluvia temprana y la tardía.

Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious produce of the soil, being patient about it, until it gets the early and late rains.

8 T ened también vosotros paciencia, y afianzad vuestros corazones; porque la venida del Señor está cerca.

You too be patient; strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near.

9 H ermanos, no os quejéis unos contra otros, para que no seáis juzgados; mirad: el juez está ya a las puertas.

Do not complain, brethren, against one another, so that you yourselves may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing right at the door.

10 H ermanos míos, tomad como ejemplo de aflicción y de paciencia a los profetas que hablaron en nombre del Señor.

As an example, brethren, of suffering and patience, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.

11 V ed cómo tenemos por dichosos a los que sufren. Habéis oído de la paciencia de Job, y habéis visto el fin del Señor, que el Señor es muy misericordioso y compasivo.

We count those blessed who endured. You have heard of the endurance of Job and have seen the outcome of the Lord’s dealings, that the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful.

12 P ero sobre todo, hermanos míos, no juréis, ni por el cielo, ni por la tierra, ni con ningún otro juramento; sino que vuestro sí sea sí, y vuestro no sea no, para que no caigáis bajo juicio.

But above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath; but your yes is to be yes, and your no, no, so that you may not fall under judgment.

13 ¿ Está alguno entre vosotros afligido? Haga oración. ¿Está alguno alegre? Cante alabanzas.

Is anyone among you suffering? Then he must pray. Is anyone cheerful? He is to sing praises.

14 ¿ Está enfermo alguno entre vosotros? Llame a los ancianos de la iglesia, y oren sobre él, ungiéndole con aceite en el nombre del Señor.

Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord;

15 Y la oración de la fe salvará al enfermo, y el Señor lo levantará; y si ha cometido pecados, le serán perdonados.

and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him.

16 C onfesaos vuestras faltas unos a otros, y orad unos por otros, para que seáis sanados. La oración eficaz del justo tiene mucha fuerza.

Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.

17 E lías era hombre de sentimientos semejantes a los nuestros, y oró fervientemente para que no lloviese, y no llovió sobre la tierra durante tres años y seis meses.

Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months.

18 Y otra vez oró, y el cielo dio lluvia, y la tierra produjo su fruto.

Then he prayed again, and the sky poured rain and the earth produced its fruit.

19 H ermanos, si alguno de entre vosotros se ha extraviado de la verdad, y alguien le hace volver,

My brethren, if any among you strays from the truth and one turns him back,

20 s epa que el que haga volver al pecador del error de su camino, salvará de muerte un alma, y cubrirá una multitud de pecados.

let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.
