1 A conteció que otro día vinieron los hijos de Dios para presentarse delante de Jehová, y Satanás vino también entre ellos presentándose delante de Jehová.

Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them to present himself before the Lord.

2 Y dijo Jehová a Satanás: ¿De dónde vienes? Respondió Satanás a Jehová, y dijo: De dar una vuelta por la tierra, y pasearme por ella.

The Lord said to Satan, “Where have you come from?” Then Satan answered the Lord and said, “From roaming about on the earth and walking around on it.”

3 Y Jehová dijo a Satanás: ¿No te has fijado en mi siervo Job, que no hay otro como él en la tierra, varón cabal y recto, temeroso de Dios y apartado del mal, y que todavía retiene su integridad, aun cuando tú me incitaste contra él para que lo arruinara sin causa?

The Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man fearing God and turning away from evil. And he still holds fast his integrity, although you incited Me against him to ruin him without cause.”

4 R espondiendo Satanás, dijo a Jehová: Piel por piel, todo lo que el hombre tiene dará por su vida.

Satan answered the Lord and said, “Skin for skin! Yes, all that a man has he will give for his life.

5 P ero extiende ahora tu mano, y toca su hueso y su carne, y verás si no blasfema contra ti en tu misma presencia.

However, put forth Your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh; he will curse You to Your face.”

6 Y Jehová dijo a Satanás: He aquí, él está en tu mano; mas guarda su vida.

So the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, he is in your power, only spare his life.”

7 E ntonces salió Satanás de la presencia de Jehová, e hirió a Job con unas llagas malignas desde la planta del pie hasta la coronilla de la cabeza.

Then Satan went out from the presence of the Lord and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head.

8 Y tomaba Job un trozo de tiesto para rascarse con él, y estaba sentado sobre las cenizas de la basura.

And he took a potsherd to scrape himself while he was sitting among the ashes.

9 E ntonces le dijo su mujer: ¿Aún persistes en tu integridad? Maldice a Dios, y muérete.

Then his wife said to him, “Do you still hold fast your integrity? Curse God and die!”

10 Y él le dijo: Hablas como suele hablar cualquiera de las mujeres fatuas. ¿Qué? ¿Aceptaremos de Dios el bien, y el mal no lo aceptaremos? En todo esto no pecó Job con sus labios.

But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God and not accept adversity?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.

11 T res amigos de Job, Elifaz temanita, Bildad suhita, y Zofar naamatita, luego que oyeron todo este mal que le había sobrevenido, vinieron cada uno de su lugar; porque habían convenido en venir juntos para condolerse con él y para consolarle.

Now when Job’s three friends heard of all this adversity that had come upon him, they came each one from his own place, Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite; and they made an appointment together to come to sympathize with him and comfort him.

12 L os cuales, al verlo desde lejos, no lo reconocieron, y prorrumpieron en llanto con gran clamor; y cada uno de ellos rasgó su manto, y los tres esparcieron polvo sobre sus cabezas y hacia el cielo.

When they lifted up their eyes at a distance and did not recognize him, they raised their voices and wept. And each of them tore his robe and they threw dust over their heads toward the sky.

13 L uego se sentaron con él en tierra por siete días y siete noches, y ninguno le hablaba palabra, porque veían que su dolor era muy grande.

Then they sat down on the ground with him for seven days and seven nights with no one speaking a word to him, for they saw that his pain was very great.
