1 S e acercaban a Jesús todos los cobradores de impuestos y pecadores para oírle,

Now all the tax collectors and the sinners were coming near Him to listen to Him.

2 y los fariseos y los escribas murmuraban, diciendo: Éste recibe a los pecadores, y come con ellos.

Both the Pharisees and the scribes began to grumble, saying, “This man receives sinners and eats with them.”

3 E ntonces él les refirió esta parábola, diciendo:

So He told them this parable, saying,

4 ¿ Qué hombre de vosotros, teniendo cien ovejas, si pierde una de ellas, no deja las noventa y nueve en el desierto, y va tras la que se perdió, hasta encontrarla?

“ What man among you, if he has a hundred sheep and has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open pasture and go after the one which is lost until he finds it?

5 Y cuando la encuentra, la pone sobre sus hombros gozoso;

When he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.

6 y al llegar a casa, reúne a sus amigos y vecinos, diciéndoles: Gozaos conmigo, porque he encontrado mi oveja que se había perdido.

And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’

7 O s digo que así habrá más gozo en el cielo por un pecador que se arrepiente, que por noventa y nueve justos que no necesitan de arrepentimiento. Parábola de la moneda perdida

I tell you that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance. The Lost Coin

8 ¿ O qué mujer que tiene diez dracmas, si pierde una dracma, no enciende una lámpara, y barre la casa, y busca con diligencia hasta encontrarla?

“Or what woman, if she has ten silver coins and loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it?

9 Y cuando la encuentra, reúne a sus amigas y vecinas, diciendo: Gozaos conmigo, porque he encontrado la dracma que había perdido.

When she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin which I had lost!’

10 A sí os digo que hay gozo delante de los ángeles de Dios por un pecador que se arrepiente. Parábola del hijo pródigo

In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” The Prodigal Son

11 T ambién dijo: Un hombre tenía dos hijos;

And He said, “A man had two sons.

12 y el menor de ellos dijo a su padre: Padre, dame la parte de los bienes que me corresponde; y les repartió los bienes.

The younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of the estate that falls to me.’ So he divided his wealth between them.

13 N o muchos días después, juntándolo todo el hijo menor, se fue lejos a una provincia apartada; y allí malgastó sus bienes viviendo perdidamente.

And not many days later, the younger son gathered everything together and went on a journey into a distant country, and there he squandered his estate with loose living.

14 Y cuando todo lo había gastado, vino una gran hambre en aquella provincia, y comenzó a pasar necesidad.

Now when he had spent everything, a severe famine occurred in that country, and he began to be impoverished.

15 Y fue y se allegó a uno de los ciudadanos de aquella tierra, el cual le envió a sus campos para que apacentase cerdos.

So he went and hired himself out to one of the citizens of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.

16 Y deseaba llenar su vientre de las algarrobas que comían los cerdos, pero nadie le daba.

And he would have gladly filled his stomach with the pods that the swine were eating, and no one was giving anything to him.

17 Y volviendo en sí, dijo: ¡Cuántos jornaleros en casa de mi padre tienen abundancia de pan, y yo aquí perezco de hambre!

But when he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired men have more than enough bread, but I am dying here with hunger!

18 M e levantaré e iré a mi padre, y le diré: Padre, he pecado contra el cielo y ante ti.

I will get up and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight;

19 Y a no soy digno de ser llamado hijo tuyo; hazme como a uno de tus jornaleros.

I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me as one of your hired men.”’

20 Y levantándose, marchó hacia su padre. Y cuando aún estaba lejos, lo vio su padre, y fue movido a compasión, y corrió, y se echó sobre su cuello, y le besó efusivamente.

So he got up and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion for him, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.

21 Y el hijo le dijo: Padre, he pecado contra el cielo y ante ti, y ya no soy digno de ser llamado tu hijo.

And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight; I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’

22 P ero el padre dijo a sus siervos: Sacad de prisa el mejor vestido, y vestidle; y poned un anillo en su mano, y calzado en sus pies.

But the father said to his slaves, ‘Quickly bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet;

23 Y traed el becerro engordado y matadlo, y comamos y hagamos fiesta;

and bring the fattened calf, kill it, and let us eat and celebrate;

24 p orque este mi hijo estaba muerto, y ha revivido; se había perdido, y ha sido hallado. Y comenzaron a regocijarse.

for this son of mine was dead and has come to life again; he was lost and has been found.’ And they began to celebrate.

25 Y su hijo mayor estaba en el campo; y cuando vino, y llegó cerca de la casa, oyó la música y las danzas;

“Now his older son was in the field, and when he came and approached the house, he heard music and dancing.

26 y llamando a uno de los criados, le preguntó qué era aquello.

And he summoned one of the servants and began inquiring what these things could be.

27 É l le dijo: Tu hermano ha venido; y tu padre ha hecho matar el becerro engordado, por haberlo recobrado sano y salvo.

And he said to him, ‘Your brother has come, and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has received him back safe and sound.’

28 E ntonces se enojó, y no quería entrar. Salió, por tanto, su padre, y le rogaba que entrase.

But he became angry and was not willing to go in; and his father came out and began pleading with him.

29 P ero él, respondiendo, dijo al padre: He aquí que por tantos años te vengo sirviendo, no habiéndote desobedecido jamás, y nunca me has dado ni un cabrito para pasarlo bien con mis amigos.

But he answered and said to his father, ‘Look! For so many years I have been serving you and I have never neglected a command of yours; and yet you have never given me a young goat, so that I might celebrate with my friends;

30 P ero cuando vino este tu hijo, que ha consumido tus bienes con rameras, has hecho matar para él el becerro engordado.

but when this son of yours came, who has devoured your wealth with prostitutes, you killed the fattened calf for him.’

31 É l entonces le dijo: Hijo, tú siempre estás conmigo, y todas mis cosas son tuyas.

And he said to him, ‘Son, you have always been with me, and all that is mine is yours.

32 P ero era necesario hacer fiesta y regocijarnos, porque este tu hermano estaba muerto, y ha revivido; se había perdido, y ha sido hallado.

But we had to celebrate and rejoice, for this brother of yours was dead and has begun to live, and was lost and has been found.’”
