1 V ino a mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo:

Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

2 H ijo de hombre, ¿qué es la madera de la vid más que cualquier otra madera? ¿Qué es el sarmiento entre los árboles del bosque?

“Son of man, how is the wood of the vine better than any wood of a branch which is among the trees of the forest?

3 ¿ Sacarán de él madera para hacer alguna obra? ¿Harán de él una estaca para colgar en ella alguna cosa?

Can wood be taken from it to make anything, or can men take a peg from it on which to hang any vessel?

4 H e aquí, que es echado al fuego para ser consumido; sus dos extremos consumió el fuego, y la parte de en medio se quemó; ¿servirá para obra alguna?

If it has been put into the fire for fuel, and the fire has consumed both of its ends and its middle part has been charred, is it then useful for anything?

5 H e aquí que cuando estaba entero no servía para ninguna obra; ¿cuánto menos después que el fuego lo ha consumido, y está chamuscado, servirá más para obra alguna?

Behold, while it is intact, it is not made into anything. How much less, when the fire has consumed it and it is charred, can it still be made into anything!

6 P or tanto, así dice el Señor Jehová: Como la madera de la vid entre los árboles del bosque, la cual di al fuego para que la consumiese, así haré a los moradores de Jerusalén.

Therefore, thus says the Lord God, ‘As the wood of the vine among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so have I given up the inhabitants of Jerusalem;

7 Y pondré mi rostro contra ellos; del fuego se escaparon, y el fuego los consumirá; y sabréis que yo soy Jehová, cuando ponga mi rostro contra ellos.

and I set My face against them. Though they have come out of the fire, yet the fire will consume them. Then you will know that I am the Lord, when I set My face against them.

8 Y convertiré la tierra en asolamiento, por cuanto cometieron gran prevaricación, dice el Señor Jehová.

Thus I will make the land desolate, because they have acted unfaithfully,’” declares the Lord God.
