1 J ehovah, God of my salvation, I have cried by day in the night before thee.

2 L et my prayer come before thee; incline thine ear unto my cry.

Giunga fino a te la mia preghiera, tendi l'orecchio al mio grido,

3 F or my soul is full of troubles, and my life draweth nigh to Sheol.

perché l'anima mia è sazia di male, e la mia vita è giunta fino allo Sceol.

4 I am reckoned with them that go down into the pit; I am as a man that hath no strength:

Sono ormai annoverato fra quelli che scendono nella fossa, sono come un uomo che non ha piú forza.

5 P rostrate among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave; whom thou rememberest no more, and who are cut off from thy hand.

Sono abbandonato fra i morti come gli uccisi che giacciono nel sepolcro, di cui tu non ti ricordi piú e che sono recisi e allontanati dalla tua mano.

6 T hou hast laid me in the lowest pit, in dark places, in the deeps.

Tu mi hai posto nella piú profonda fossa, in luoghi tenebrosi, negli abissi.

7 T hy fury lieth hard upon me, and thou hast afflicted with all thy waves. Selah.

Su di me si è abbattuta la tua ira, e tu mi hai travolto con tutti i tuoi flutti. (Sela)

8 T hou hast put my familiar friends far from me; thou hast made me an abomination unto them: I am shut up, and I cannot come forth.

Tu mi hai privato dei miei amici, mi hai reso per loro un oggetto abominevole; sono rinchiuso e non posso uscire.

9 M ine eye consumeth by reason of affliction. Upon thee, Jehovah, have I called every day; I have stretched out my hands unto thee.

Il mio occhio si strugge dal dolore; ti invoco ogni giorno, o Eterno, e tendo le mie mani verso di te.

10 W ilt thou do wonders to the dead? shall the shades arise and praise thee? Selah.

Farai forse dei prodigi per i morti? Risorgeranno i defunti a lodarti? (Sela)

11 S hall thy loving-kindness be declared in the grave? thy faithfulness in Destruction?

Si celebrerà la tua benignità nel sepolcro e la tua fedeltà nel luogo di distruzione?

12 S hall thy wonders be known in the dark? and thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?

Saranno le tue meraviglie conosciute nelle tenebre e la tua giustizia nella terra dell'oblìo?

13 B ut as for me, Jehovah, I cry unto thee, and in the morning my prayer cometh before thee.

Ma io grido a te, o Eterno, e la mia preghiera ti viene incontro al mattino.

14 W hy, O Jehovah, castest thou off my soul? hidest thou thy face from me?

Perché mi respingi, o Eterno perché mi nascondi il tuo volto?

15 I am afflicted and expiring from my youth up; I suffer thy terrors, I am distracted.

Sono stato afflitto e moribondo fin dalla giovinezza; ho sofferto i tuoi terrori e sono smarrito.

16 T hy fierce anger hath gone over me; thy terrors have brought me to nought:

Sopra di me è passata la tua ardente ira; i tuoi terrori mi hanno annientato,

17 T hey have surrounded me all the day like water; they have compassed me about together.

mi hanno circondato come acque tutto il giorno e tutti assieme mi hanno sommerso.

18 L over and associate hast thou put far from me: my familiar friends are darkness.

Hai allontanato da me amici e conoscenti; i miei amici piú intimi sono le tenebre.
