1 С лед това израелтяните отпътуваха и разположиха стан на моавските полета оттатък Йордан, срещу Йерихон.

And the children of Israel set forward, and pitched in the plains of Moab on this side Jordan by Jericho.

2 А Валак, Сепфоровият син, видя всичко, което Израел стори на аморейците.

And Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.

3 И Моав се уплаши много от народа, защото беше многочислен; и Моав се безпокоеше поради израелтяните.

And Moab was sore afraid of the people, because they were many: and Moab was distressed because of the children of Israel.

4 М оав каза на мадиамските старейшини: Сега това множество ще изпояде всичко около нас, както говедо опасва полската трева. И Валак, Сепфоровият син, който в това време беше цар на моавците,

And Moab said unto the elders of Midian, Now shall this company lick up all that are round about us, as the ox licketh up the grass of the field. And Balak the son of Zippor was king of the Moabites at that time.

5 и зпрати посланици до Валаам, Веоровия син, във Фатур, който е при реката Ефрат, в земята на онези, които му бяха народ, за да го повикат, като му кажат: Ето, народ излезе от Египет; ето, покриват лицето на земята и са разположени срещу мен.

He sent messengers therefore unto Balaam the son of Beor to Pethor, which is by the river of the land of the children of his people, to call him, saying, Behold, there is a people come out from Egypt: behold, they cover the face of the earth, and they abide over against me:

6 И така, ела сега, моля ти се, прокълни ми този народ, защото са по-силни от мене, дано бих могъл да ги преодолея, за да ги поразим и да мога да ги изпъдя от земята; понеже зная, че онзи, когото ти благославяш, е благословен, а когото проклинаш, е проклет.

Come now therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people; for they are too mighty for me: peradventure I shall prevail, that we may smite them, and that I may drive them out of the land: for I wot that he whom thou blessest is blessed, and he whom thou cursest is cursed.

7 И така, моавските старейшини и мадиамските старейшини отидоха с възнаграждение в ръце за врачуването; и като дойдоха при Валаам, предадоха му Валаковите думи.

And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand; and they came unto Balaam, and spake unto him the words of Balak.

8 А той им отговори: Пренощувайте тук и ще ви дам отговор, според каквото ми каже Господ. И така, моавските първенци останаха у Валаам.

And he said unto them, Lodge here this night, and I will bring you word again, as the Lord shall speak unto me: and the princes of Moab abode with Balaam.

9 И Бог дойде при Валаам и каза: Какви са тези хора при теб?

And God came unto Balaam, and said, What men are these with thee?

10 А Валаам отвърна на Бога: Валак, Сепфоровият син, цар на моавците, ги е пратил до мене да кажат:

And Balaam said unto God, Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, hath sent unto me, saying,

11 Е то, народът, който излезе от Египет, покрива лицето на земята; ела сега, прокълни ми го, дали бих могъл да се бия с него и да го изпъдя.

Behold, there is a people come out of Egypt, which covereth the face of the earth: come now, curse me them; peradventure I shall be able to overcome them, and drive them out.

12 А Бог нареди на Валаам: Да не отидеш с тях, нито да прокълнеш народа, защото е благословен.

And God said unto Balaam, Thou shalt not go with them; thou shalt not curse the people: for they are blessed.

13 И така, Валаам, като стана сутринта, каза на Валаковите първенци: Идете в земята си, защото Господ отказва да ме пусне да дойда с вас.

And Balaam rose up in the morning, and said unto the princes of Balak, Get you into your land: for the Lord refuseth to give me leave to go with you.

14 Т огава моавските първенци станаха и дойдоха при Валак, и казаха: Валаам отказва да дойде с нас.

And the princes of Moab rose up, and they went unto Balak, and said, Balaam refuseth to come with us.

15 А Валак пак изпрати първенци, повече и по-почтени от онези.

And Balak sent yet again princes, more, and more honourable than they.

16 И те, като дойдоха при Валаам, му казаха: Така казва Валак, Сепфоровият син: Моля ти се, нищо да не те спре да дойдеш до мене;

And they came to Balaam, and said to him, Thus saith Balak the son of Zippor, Let nothing, I pray thee, hinder thee from coming unto me:

17 з ащото ще те въздигна до голяма почит и ще направя всичко, което би ми казал; и така, ела, моля, прокълни ми този народ.

For I will promote thee unto very great honour, and I will do whatsoever thou sayest unto me: come therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people.

18 А Валаам отговори на Валаковите слуги: Ако би ми дал Валак и къщата си, пълна със сребро и злато, аз не мога да престъпя думата на Господа, моя Бог, да направя по-малко или повече.

And Balaam answered and said unto the servants of Balak, If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of the Lord my God, to do less or more.

19 З атова, моля, пренощувайте и вие тук, за да се науча какво ще ми каже Господ.

Now therefore, I pray you, tarry ye also here this night, that I may know what the Lord will say unto me more.

20 Б ог дойде при Валаам през нощта и му каза: Ако дойдат човеците да те повикат, стани, иди с тях; но само онова, което ти кажа, него да направиш.

And God came unto Balaam at night, and said unto him, If the men come to call thee, rise up, and go with them; but yet the word which I shall say unto thee, that shalt thou do.

21 З атова Валаам стана на сутринта, оседла ослицата си и отиде с моавските първенци.

And Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his ass, and went with the princes of Moab.

22 Н о Божият гняв пламна затова, че отиде; и ангел Господен застана на пътя пред Валаам, за да му се възпротиви (а той яздеше на ослицата си и двамата му слуги бяха с него).

And God's anger was kindled because he went: and the angel of the Lord stood in the way for an adversary against him. Now he was riding upon his ass, and his two servants were with him.

23 И понеже ослицата видя, че ангел Господен стоеше на пътя с гол меч в ръка, тя се отби от пътя и отиваше към полето; а Валаам удари ослицата, за да я оправи в пътя.

And the ass saw the angel of the Lord standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and the ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the field: and Balaam smote the ass, to turn her into the way.

24 Т огава ангелът Господен застана на един нисък път между лозята, където имаше прегради отсам и оттам край пътя.

But the angel of the Lord stood in a path of the vineyards, a wall being on this side, and a wall on that side.

25 И понеже ослицата видя ангела Господен, облегна се към зида и притисна Валаамовия крак до зида; и той я удари пак.

And when the ass saw the angel of the Lord, she thrust herself unto the wall, and crushed Balaam's foot against the wall: and he smote her again.

26 П осле ангелът Господен отиде още напред и застана на едно тясно място, където нямаше къде да се отбие нито надясно, нито наляво.

And the angel of the Lord went further, and stood in a narrow place, where was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left.

27 И понеже ослицата видя ангела Господен, тя падна под Валаам; а Валаам се разлюти и я удари с тоягата си.

And when the ass saw the angel of the Lord, she fell down under Balaam: and Balaam's anger was kindled, and he smote the ass with a staff.

28 Т огава Господ отвори устата на ослицата и тя каза на Валаам: Какво съм ти направила, че ме биеш вече три пъти?

And the Lord opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?

29 А Валаам отвърна на ослицата: Защото се подигра с мен. Ах, да имах нож в ръката си, сега бих те заклал!

And Balaam said unto the ass, Because thou hast mocked me: I would there were a sword in mine hand, for now would I kill thee.

30 О слицата попита Валаам: Не съм ли аз твоята ослица, на която си яздил през целия си живот до днес? Имала ли съм навик друг път да ти правя така? А той отговори: Не.

And the ass said unto Balaam, Am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden ever since I was thine unto this day? was I ever wont to do so unto thee? and he said, Nay.

31 Т огава Господ отвори очите на Валаам и той видя ангела Господен, който стоеше на пътя с гол меч в ръката си; и преклони глава и падна на лицето си.

Then the Lord opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the Lord standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face.

32 И ангелът Господен му каза: Ти защо би ослицата си вече три пъти? Ето, аз излязох да ти се съпротивя, защото пътят ти не е прав пред мен;

And the angel of the Lord said unto him, Wherefore hast thou smitten thine ass these three times? behold, I went out to withstand thee, because thy way is perverse before me:

33 о слицата ме видя и се отби от мен, ето, три пъти; ако не беше се отбила от мене, досега да съм те убил, а нея да съм оставил жива.

And the ass saw me, and turned from me these three times: unless she had turned from me, surely now also I had slain thee, and saved her alive.

34 Т огава Валаам каза на ангела Господен: Съгреших, защото не знаех, че ти стоеше на пътя против мен; и сега, ако това не ти е угодно, аз ще се върна.

And Balaam said unto the angel of the Lord, I have sinned; for I knew not that thou stoodest in the way against me: now therefore, if it displease thee, I will get me back again.

35 А ангелът Господен каза на Валаам: Иди с хората; но само словото, което ти кажа, него да говориш. И така, Валаам отиде с Валаковите първенци.

And the angel of the Lord said unto Balaam, Go with the men: but only the word that I shall speak unto thee, that thou shalt speak. So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.

36 А като чу Валак, че иде Валаам, излезе да го посрещне до един моавски град, разположен там, където Арнон е границата, в най-далечната част на границата.

And when Balak heard that Balaam was come, he went out to meet him unto a city of Moab, which is in the border of Arnon, which is in the utmost coast.

37 Т огава Валак каза на Валаам: Не пратих ли до теб усърдно да те повикат? Защо не дойде при мене? Не мога ли да те въздигна до почит?

And Balak said unto Balaam, Did I not earnestly send unto thee to call thee? wherefore camest thou not unto me? am I not able indeed to promote thee to honour?

38 А Валаам отвърна на Валак: Ето, дойдох при тебе; но имам ли сега власт да говоря нещо? Каквато дума сложи Бог в устата ми, нея ще говоря.

And Balaam said unto Balak, Lo, I am come unto thee: have I now any power at all to say any thing? the word that God putteth in my mouth, that shall I speak.

39 И Валаам отиде с Валак и пристигнаха в Кириатузот.

And Balaam went with Balak, and they came unto Kirjathhuzoth.

40 В алак пожертва говеда и овце и изпрати от тях и на Валаам, и на първенците, които бяха с него. Валаам изрича благословения и пророчества за Израел

And Balak offered oxen and sheep, and sent to Balaam, and to the princes that were with him.

41 А на сутринта Валак взе Валаам и го заведе на високите Ваалови места, откъдето той видя народа до крайната му част.

And it came to pass on the morrow, that Balak took Balaam, and brought him up into the high places of Baal, that thence he might see the utmost part of the people.
