1 В онези дни, когато в Израел нямаше цар, имаше един левит, който живееше на отсрещната страна на Ефремовата хълмиста земя и който си беше взел наложница от Витлеем Юдейски.

And it came to pass in those days, when there was no king in Israel, that there was a certain Levite sojourning on the side of mount Ephraim, who took to him a concubine out of Bethlehemjudah.

2 Н о наложницата му блудства̀ против него и си отиде в бащината си къща във Витлеем Юдейски, където остана четири месеца.

And his concubine played the whore against him, and went away from him unto her father's house to Bethlehemjudah, and was there four whole months.

3 М ъжът ѝ тръгна и отиде след нея, за да ѝ говори с добро и да я върне, като взе със себе си слугата си и два осела. И тя го въведе в бащината си къща; и когато бащата на младата жена го видя, го посрещна с радост.

And her husband arose, and went after her, to speak friendly unto her, and to bring her again, having his servant with him, and a couple of asses: and she brought him into her father's house: and when the father of the damsel saw him, he rejoiced to meet him.

4 Т ъстът му, бащата на младата жена, го задържа и човекът преседя с него три дни; и ядеха и пиеха, и нощуваха там.

And his father in law, the damsel's father, retained him; and he abode with him three days: so they did eat and drink, and lodged there.

5 Н а четвъртия ден, като станаха рано, той тръгна да си върви; но бащата на младата жена каза на зетя си: Подкрепи сърцето си с малко хляб и после ще си вървиш.

And it came to pass on the fourth day, when they arose early in the morning, that he rose up to depart: and the damsel's father said unto his son in law, Comfort thine heart with a morsel of bread, and afterward go your way.

6 И така, седнаха, ядоха и пиха двамата заедно. След това бащата на младата жена каза на мъжа: Съгласи се, моля те, да пренощуваш и нека се развесели сърцето ти.

And they sat down, and did eat and drink both of them together: for the damsel's father had said unto the man, Be content, I pray thee, and tarry all night, and let thine heart be merry.

7 Ч овекът обаче искаше да си тръгне; но понеже тъстът му настояваше пред него, той пак пренощува там.

And when the man rose up to depart, his father in law urged him: therefore he lodged there again.

8 А на петия ден стана рано да си върви; но бащата на младата жена каза: Подкрепи, моля, сърцето си. И останаха, докато превали денят, като ядоха двамата.

And he arose early in the morning on the fifth day to depart; and the damsel's father said, Comfort thine heart, I pray thee. And they tarried until afternoon, and they did eat both of them.

9 П осле, когато човекът стана да си върви - заедно с наложницата му и слугата му, тъстът му, бащата на младата жена, каза: Ето, сега денят преваля към вечер. Пренощувайте, моля ви. Ето, денят е на свършване! Пренощувай тук и нека се развесели сърцето ти; а утре тръгнете рано на път, за да отидеш у дома си.

And when the man rose up to depart, he, and his concubine, and his servant, his father in law, the damsel's father, said unto him, Behold, now the day draweth toward evening, I pray you tarry all night: behold, the day groweth to an end, lodge here, that thine heart may be merry; and to morrow get you early on your way, that thou mayest go home.

10 Н о човекът не се съгласи да остане, а, като стана, тръгна и стигна до Евус (който е Йерусалим), като водеше със себе си два оседлани осела; и наложницата му беше с него.

But the man would not tarry that night, but he rose up and departed, and came over against Jebus, which is Jerusalem; and there were with him two asses saddled, his concubine also was with him.

11 К огато се приближиха до Евус, денят беше превалил; и слугата каза на господаря си: Ела, нека се отбием в този град на евусите, за да пренощуваме там.

And when they were by Jebus, the day was far spent; and the servant said unto his master, Come, I pray thee, and let us turn in into this city of the Jebusites, and lodge in it.

12 Н о господарят му отговори: Няма да се отбиваме в град на чужденци, където няма израелтяни, а ще продължим за Гавая.

And his master said unto him, We will not turn aside hither into the city of a stranger, that is not of the children of Israel; we will pass over to Gibeah.

13 К аза още на слугата си: Ела, нека се приближим до едно от тези места и ще пренощуваме в Гавая или в Рама.

And he said unto his servant, Come, and let us draw near to one of these places to lodge all night, in Gibeah, or in Ramah.

14 И така, те продължиха и вървяха; а залезът на слънцето ги завари близо до Гавая, която принадлежи на Вениамин.

And they passed on and went their way; and the sun went down upon them when they were by Gibeah, which belongeth to Benjamin.

15 Т ам се отбиха, за да влязат да пренощуват в Гавая. И когато влязоха, седнаха край градската улица, защото никой още не ги беше прибрал в къщата си, за да пренощуват.

And they turned aside thither, to go in and to lodge in Gibeah: and when he went in, he sat him down in a street of the city: for there was no man that took them into his house to lodging.

16 И стана така, че един старец се прибираше вечерта от работата си на полето. Този човек беше от хълмистата земя на Ефрем и беше преселник в Гавая, а местните хора бяха Вениаминови синове.

And, behold, there came an old man from his work out of the field at even, which was also of mount Ephraim; and he sojourned in Gibeah: but the men of the place were Benjamites.

17 И като погледна и видя пътника на градската улица, старецът му каза: Къде отиваш? И откъде идваш?

And when he had lifted up his eyes, he saw a wayfaring man in the street of the city: and the old man said, Whither goest thou? and whence comest thou?

18 А той му отговори: Ние преминаваме от Витлеем Юдейски към отвъдната страна на хълмистата земя на Ефрем, откъдето съм аз. Ходих до Витлеем Юдейски и сега отивам към Господния дом; а никой не ме прибира в къщата си.

And he said unto him, We are passing from Bethlehemjudah toward the side of mount Ephraim; from thence am I: and I went to Bethlehemjudah, but I am now going to the house of the Lord; and there is no man that receiveth me to house.

19 А пък ние си имаме плява и храна за ослите си, също и хляб и вино за мен и за слугинята ти, и за момчето, което е със слугите ти. Нямаме нужда от нищо.

Yet there is both straw and provender for our asses; and there is bread and wine also for me, and for thy handmaid, and for the young man which is with thy servants: there is no want of any thing.

20 Т огава старецът каза: Бъди спокоен; за всичките ти нужди нека се погрижа аз; само не пренощувай на улицата.

And the old man said, Peace be with thee; howsoever let all thy wants lie upon me; only lodge not in the street.

21 И така, той го покани в къщата си и даде зоб на ослите; а те си измиха краката и ядоха и пиха.

So he brought him into his house, and gave provender unto the asses: and they washed their feet, and did eat and drink.

22 Д окато веселяха сърцата си, група мъже от града, развратници, наобиколиха къщата, блъскаха по вратата и викаха на стареца домакин: Изведи човека, който влезе в къщата ти, за да го обезчестим.

Now as they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain sons of Belial, beset the house round about, and beat at the door, and spake to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring forth the man that came into thine house, that we may know him.

23 А домакинът излезе при тях и им каза: Недейте, братя мои! Не правете това зло; тъй като този човек е мой гост, не вършете такова безумие!

And the man, the master of the house, went out unto them, and said unto them, Nay, my brethren, nay, I pray you, do not so wickedly; seeing that this man is come into mine house, do not this folly.

24 Е то, дъщеря ми е девица и неговата наложница; тях ще изведа вън сега; опозорете ги и направете с тях каквото искате; но на този човек не правете такова безумно дело.

Behold, here is my daughter a maiden, and his concubine; them I will bring out now, and humble ye them, and do with them what seemeth good unto you: but unto this man do not so vile a thing.

25 Н о мъжете не искаха да го послушат. Затова старецът взе наложницата му и я изведе вън. И те лежаха с нея и я обезчестяваха цялата нощ чак до сутринта, а като се зазори, я пуснаха.

But the men would not hearken to him: so the man took his concubine, and brought her forth unto them; and they knew her, and abused her all the night until the morning: and when the day began to spring, they let her go.

26 И така, призори жената дойде и падна при вратата на къщата на стареца, където беше отседнал господарят ѝ, и там остана до съмване.

Then came the woman in the dawning of the day, and fell down at the door of the man's house where her lord was, till it was light.

27 Н а сутринта господарят ѝ стана, отвори вратата на къщата и излезе, за да продължи пътя си, и видя, че наложницата му беше паднала при вратата на къщата с ръцете си на прага.

And her lord rose up in the morning, and opened the doors of the house, and went out to go his way: and, behold, the woman his concubine was fallen down at the door of the house, and her hands were upon the threshold.

28 Т ой ѝ каза: Стани да вървим. Но отговор нямаше. Тя беше мъртва. Тогава човекът я вдигна на осела, тръгна и се прибра у дома си.

And he said unto her, Up, and let us be going. But none answered. Then the man took her up upon an ass, and the man rose up, and gat him unto his place.

29 А като дойде вкъщи, взе меч, хвана тялото на наложницата си и го разсече част по част на дванадесет части, и ги прати до всичките предели на Израел.

And when he was come into his house, he took a knife, and laid hold on his concubine, and divided her, together with her bones, into twelve pieces, and sent her into all the coasts of Israel.

30 И всички, които видяха това, си казваха: Такова нещо не е ставало, нито се е виждало от деня, когато израелтяните излязоха от Египетската земя, до днес. Размислете за това, съветвайте се и дайте мнението си.

And it was so, that all that saw it said, There was no such deed done nor seen from the day that the children of Israel came up out of the land of Egypt unto this day: consider of it, take advice, and speak your minds.
