1 P orque la ley, teniendo la sombra de los bienes venideros, no la representación misma de las cosas, nunca puede, por los mismos sacrificios que se ofrecen continuamente cada año, hacer perfectos a los que se acercan.

For the law having a shadow of the good things to come, not the very image of the things, can never with the same sacrifices year by year, which they offer continually, make perfect them that draw nigh.

2 D e otra manera cesarían de ofrecerse, pues los que tributan este culto, limpios de una vez, no tendrían ya ninguna conciencia de pecado.

Else would they not have ceased to be offered? because the worshippers, having been once cleansed, would have had no more consciousness of sins.

3 P ero en estos sacrificios cada año se hace memoria de los pecados;

But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance made of sins year by year.

4 p orque la sangre de los toros y de los machos cabríos no puede quitar los pecados.

For it is impossible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins.

5 P or lo cual, entrando en el mundo dice: Sacrificio y ofrenda no quisiste; Pero me preparaste un cuerpo.

Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, But a body didst thou prepare for me;

6 E n holocaustos y expiaciones por el pecado no te complaciste.

In whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hadst no pleasure:

7 E ntonces dije: He aquí que vengo, oh Dios, para hacer tu voluntad, Como está escrito de mí en el rollo del libro.

Then said I, Lo, I am come (In the roll of the book it is written of me) To do thy will, O God.

8 D iciendo más arriba: Sacrificio y ofrenda, holocaustos y expiaciones por el pecado no quisiste, ni en ellos te complaciste (las cuales cosas se ofrecen según la ley),

Saying above, Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein (the which are offered according to the law),

9 h a dicho luego: He aquí que vengo, oh Dios, para hacer tu voluntad; quita lo primero, para establecer lo segundo.

then hath he said, Lo, I am come to do thy will. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.

10 E n la cual voluntad hemos sido santificados mediante la ofrenda del cuerpo de Jesucristo hecha una vez para siempre.

By which will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

11 Y en verdad todo sacerdote está día tras día ministrando y ofreciendo muchas veces los mismos sacrificios, que nunca pueden quitar los pecados;

And every priest indeed standeth day by day ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, the which can never take away sins:

12 p ero Cristo, habiendo ofrecido un solo sacrificio por los pecados, para siempre se ha sentado a la diestra de Dios,

but he, when he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;

13 e sperando de ahí en adelante hasta que sus enemigos sean puestos por estrado de sus pies;

henceforth expecting till his enemies be made the footstool of his feet.

14 p orque con una sola ofrenda ha hecho perfectos para siempre a los que son santificados.

For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

15 Y nos da testimonio también el Espíritu Santo; porque después de haber dicho:

And the Holy Spirit also beareth witness to us; for after he hath said,

16 E ste es el pacto que haré con ellos Después de aquellos días, dice el Señor: Pondré mis leyes en sus corazones, Y las inscribiré en sus mentes,

This is the covenant that I will make with them After those days, saith the Lord: I will put my laws on their heart, And upon their mind also will I write them; then saith he,

17 a ñade: Y nunca más me acordaré de sus pecados e iniquidades.

And their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

18 P ues donde hay perdón de estas cosas, ya no hay ofrenda por el pecado.

Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.

19 A sí que, hermanos, teniendo entera libertad para entrar en el Lugar Santo por la sangre de Jesucristo,

Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holy place by the blood of Jesus,

20 p or el camino nuevo y vivo que él abrió para nosotros a través del velo, esto es, de su carne,

by the way which he dedicated for us, a new and living way, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;

21 y teniendo un gran sacerdote sobre la casa de Dios,

and having a great priest over the house of God;

22 a cerquémonos con corazón sincero, en plena certidumbre de fe, teniendo los corazones purificados de mala conciencia, y los cuerpos lavados con agua pura.

let us draw near with a true heart in fulness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience: and having our body washed with pure water,

23 M antengamos firme, sin fluctuar, la profesión de nuestra esperanza, porque fiel es el que prometió.

let us hold fast the confession of our hope that it waver not; for he is faithful that promised:

24 Y considerémonos unos a otros para estimularnos al amor y a las buenas obras;

and let us consider one another to provoke unto love and good works;

25 n o dejando de congregarnos, como algunos tienen por costumbre, sino exhortándonos; y tanto más, cuanto que veis que aquel día se acerca. Advertencia al que continúa pecando deliberadamente

not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another; and so much the more, as ye see the day drawing nigh.

26 P orque si continuamos pecando voluntariamente después de haber recibido el conocimiento de la verdad, ya no queda más sacrificio por los pecados,

For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more a sacrifice for sins,

27 s ino una horrenda expectación de juicio, y un fuego airado, que está a punto de consumir a los adversarios.

but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and a fierceness of fire which shall devour the adversaries.

28 E l que viola la ley de Moisés, por el testimonio de dos o de tres testigos muere sin compasión.

A man that hath set at nought Moses law dieth without compassion on the word of two or three witnesses:

29 ¿ Cuánto mayor castigo pensáis que merecerá el que haya hollado al Hijo de Dios, y haya tenido por inmunda la sangre del pacto en la cual fue santificado, y haya ultrajado al Espíritu de gracia?

of how much sorer punishment, think ye, shall he be judged worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant wherewith he was sanctified an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

30 P ues conocemos al que dijo: Mía es la venganza, yo daré el pago, dice el Señor. Y otra vez: El Señor juzgará a su pueblo.

For we know him that said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.

31 ¡ Horrenda cosa es caer en manos del Dios vivo!

It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

32 P ero traed a la memoria los días pasados, en los cuales, después de haber sido iluminados, sostuvisteis gran combate de padecimientos;

But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were enlightened, ye endured a great conflict of sufferings;

33 p or una parte, siendo expuestos públicamente a ultrajes y aflicciones; por otra, siendo compañeros de los que estaban en una situación semejante.

partly, being made a gazingstock both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, becoming partakers with them that were so used.

34 P orque también os compadecisteis de los presos, y sufristeis con gozo el despojo de vuestros bienes, sabiendo que tenéis para vosotros una mejor y perdurable posesión en los cielos.

For ye both had compassion on them that were in bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of you possessions, knowing that ye have for yourselves a better possession and an abiding one.

35 N o perdáis, pues, vuestra confianza, que tiene gran galardón;

Cast not away therefore your boldness, which hath great recompense of reward.

36 p orque tenéis necesidad de paciencia, para que habiendo hecho la voluntad de Dios, obtengáis la promesa.

For ye have need of patience, that, having done the will of God, ye may receive the promise.

37 P orque aún un poquito, Y el que ha de venir vendrá, y no tardará.

For yet a very little while, He that cometh shall come, and shall not tarry.

38 M as el justo vivirá por fe; Y si retrocede, mi alma no se complace en él.

But my righteous one shall live by faith: And if he shrink back, my soul hath no pleasure in him.

39 P ero nosotros no somos de los que retroceden para destrucción, sino de los que tienen fe para preservación del alma.

But we are not of them that shrink back unto perdition; but of them that have faith unto the saving of the soul.
