1 E n cuanto a las cosas de que me escribisteis, bien le está al hombre no tocar mujer;

Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote: It is good for a man not to touch a woman.

2 p ero a causa de las fornicaciones, cada uno tenga su propia mujer, y cada una tenga su propio marido.

But, because of fornications, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband.

3 E l marido cumpla con la mujer el deber conyugal, y asimismo la mujer con el marido.

Let the husband render unto the wife her due: and likewise also the wife unto the husband.

4 L a mujer no tiene potestad sobre su propio cuerpo, sino el marido; ni tampoco tiene el marido potestad sobre su propio cuerpo, sino la mujer.

The wife hath not power over her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power over his own body, but the wife.

5 N o os privéis el uno del otro, a no ser por algún tiempo de común acuerdo, para ocuparos sosegadamente en la oración; y volved a juntaros en uno, para que no os tiente Satanás a causa de vuestra incontinencia.

Defraud ye not one the other, except it be by consent for a season, that ye may give yourselves unto prayer, and may be together again, that Satan tempt you not because of your incontinency.

6 M as esto lo digo por vía de concesión, no por mandamiento.

But this I say by way of concession, not of commandment.

7 Q uisiera más bien que todos los hombres estuviesen como yo; pero cada uno tiene su propio don de Dios, uno de un modo, y otro de otro.

Yet I would that all men were even as I myself. Howbeit each man hath his own gift from God, one after this manner, and another after that.

8 D igo, pues, a los solteros y a las viudas, que les iría bien el quedarse como yo;

But I say to the unmarried and to widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I.

9 p ero si no tienen don de continencia, cásense, pues mejor es casarse que estarse quemando.

But if they have not continency, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.

10 P ero a los que están unidos en matrimonio, mando, no yo, sino el Señor: Que la mujer no se separe del marido;

But unto the married I give charge, yea not I, but the Lord, That the wife depart not from her husband

11 y si se separa, quédese sin casar, o reconcíliese con su marido; y que el marido no abandone a su mujer.

(but should she depart, let her remain unmarried, or else be reconciled to her husband); and that the husband leave not his wife.

12 Y a los demás yo digo, no el Señor: Si algún hermano tiene mujer que no sea creyente, y ella consiente en vivir con él, no la abandone.

But to the rest say I, not the Lord: If any brother hath an unbelieving wife, and she is content to dwell with him, let him not leave her.

13 Y si una mujer tiene marido que no sea creyente, y él consiente en vivir con ella, no lo abandone.

And the woman that hath an unbelieving husband, and he is content to dwell with her, let her not leave her husband.

14 P orque el marido incrédulo es santificado en la mujer, y la mujer incrédula en el marido; pues de otra manera vuestros hijos serían inmundos, mientras que ahora son santos.

For the unbelieving husband is sanctified in the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified in the brother: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy.

15 P ero si el incrédulo se separa, que se separe; pues no está el hermano o la hermana sujeto a servidumbre en semejante caso, sino que a paz nos llamó Dios.

Yet if the unbelieving departeth, let him depart: the brother or the sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us in peace.

16 P orque ¿qué sabes tú, oh mujer, si harás salvo a tu marido? ¿O qué sabes tú, oh marido, si harás salva a tu mujer?

For how knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? Or how knowest thou, O husband, whether thou shalt save thy wife?

17 F uera de esto, cada cual se comporte como el Señor le repartió, y como Dios llamó a cada uno; y así lo ordeno en todas las iglesias.

Only, as the Lord hath distributed to each man, as God hath called each, so let him walk. And so ordain I in all the churches.

18 ¿ Fue llamado alguno siendo circunciso? Quédese circunciso. ¿Fue llamado alguno siendo incircunciso? No se circuncide.

Was any man called being circumcised? Let him not become uncircumcised. Hath any been called in uncircumcision? Let him not be circumcised.

19 L a circuncisión es nada, y la incircuncisión es nada; lo que importa es la observancia de los mandamientos de Dios.

Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing; but the keeping of the commandments of God.

20 C ada uno se quede en el estado en que fue llamado.

Let each man abide in that calling wherein he was called.

21 ¿ Fuiste llamado siendo esclavo? No te dé cuidado; pero también, si puedes hacerte libre, procúralo más.

Wast thou called being a bondservant? Care not for it: nay, even if thou canst become free, use it rather.

22 P orque el que en el Señor fue llamado siendo esclavo, es liberto del Señor; asimismo el que fue llamado siendo libre, es esclavo de Cristo.

For he that was called in the Lord being a bondservant, is the Lord's freedman: likewise he that was called being free, is Christ's bondservant.

23 P or precio fuisteis comprados; no os hagáis esclavos de los hombres.

Ye were bought with a price; become not bondservants of men.

24 C ada uno, hermanos, en el estado en que fue llamado, así permanezca para con Dios.

Brethren, let each man, wherein he was called, therein abide with God.

25 E n cuanto a las vírgenes, no tengo precepto del Señor; mas doy mi parecer, como quien ha alcanzado misericordia del Señor para ser fiel.

Now concerning virgins I have no commandment of the Lord: but I give my judgment, as one that hath obtained mercy of the Lord to be trustworthy.

26 T engo, pues, esto por bueno a causa del agobio inminente; que le irá bien al hombre en quedarse como está.

I think therefore that this is good by reason of the distress that is upon us, namely, that it is good for a man to be as he is.

27 ¿ Estás ligado a mujer? No procures soltarte. ¿Estás libre de mujer? No procures casarte.

Art thou bound unto a wife? Seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? Seek not a wife.

28 M as también si te casas, no pecas; y si la doncella se casa, no peca; pero los tales tendrán aflicción de la carne, y yo os la quiero evitar.

But shouldest thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Yet such shall have tribulation in the flesh: and I would spare you.

29 P ero esto digo, hermanos: que el tiempo es limitado; resta, pues, que los que tienen esposa sean como si no la tuviesen;

But this I say, brethren, the time is shortened, that henceforth both those that have wives may be as though they had none;

30 y los que lloran, como si no llorasen; y los que se alegran, como si no se alegrasen; y los que compran, como si no poseyesen;

and those that weep, as though they wept not; and those that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and those that buy, as though they possessed not;

31 y los que disfrutan de este mundo, como si no lo disfrutasen; porque la apariencia de este mundo se pasa.

and those that use the world, as not using it to the full: for the fashion of this world passeth away.

32 D eseo, pues, que estéis sin congoja. El soltero se preocupa por las cosas del Señor, de cómo agradar al Señor;

But I would have you to be free from cares. He that is unmarried is careful for the things of the Lord, how he may please the Lord:

33 p ero el casado se preocupa por las cosas del mundo, de cómo agradar a su mujer, y está dividido.

but he that is married is careful for the things of the world, how he may please his wife,

34 H ay asimismo diferencia entre la casada y la doncella. La doncella se preocupa por las cosas del Señor, para ser santa así en cuerpo como en espíritu; pero la casada se preocupa por las cosas del mundo, de cómo agradar a su marido.

and is divided. So also the woman that is unmarried and the virgin is careful for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married is careful for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.

35 E sto lo digo para vuestro provecho; no para tenderos lazo, sino para lo honesto y para lo que facilita sin distracciones vuestro trato asiduo con el Señor.

And this I say for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is seemly, and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction.

36 P ero si alguno piensa que no se comporta decentemente con su hija doncella, si es de edad madura, y así debe hacerse, haga lo que quiera, no peca; que se casen.

But if any man thinketh that he behaveth himself unseemly toward his virgin daughter, if she be past the flower of her age, and if need so requireth, let him do what he will; he sinneth not; let them marry.

37 P ero el que está firme en su corazón, sin tener necesidad, sino que es dueño de su propia voluntad, y ha resuelto en su corazón guardar a su hija doncella, hace bien.

But he that standeth stedfast in his heart, having no necessity, but hath power as touching in his own heart, to keep his own virgin daughter, shall do well.

38 D e manera que el que la da en casamiento hace bien, y el que no la da en casamiento hace mejor.

So then both he that giveth his own virgin daughter in marriage doeth well; and he that giveth her not in marriage shall do better.

39 L a mujer está ligada por la ley mientras su marido vive; pero si su marido muere, es libre para casarse con quien quiera, con tal que sea en el Señor.

A wife is bound for so long time as her husband liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is free to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.

40 P ero a mi juicio, será más dichosa si se queda así; y pienso que también yo tengo el Espíritu de Dios.

But she is happier if she abide as she is, after my judgment: and I think that I also have the Spirit of God.
