1 D espués de pasar por Anfípolis y Apolonia, llegaron a Tesalónica, donde había una sinagoga de los judíos.

Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews:

2 Y Pablo, como acostumbraba, fue a ellos, y por tres sábados discutió con ellos, basándose en las Escrituras,

and Paul, as his custom was, went in unto them, and for three sabbath days reasoned with them from the Scriptures,

3 e xplicando y demostrando que era necesario que el Cristo padeciese, y resucitase de los muertos; y que Jesús, a quien yo os anuncio, decía él, es el Cristo.

opening and alleging that it behooved the Christ to suffer, and to rise again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom, said he, I proclaim unto you, is the Christ.

4 Y algunos de ellos creyeron, y se juntaron con Pablo y con Silas; y de los griegos piadosos gran número, y mujeres principales no pocas.

And some of them were persuaded, and consorted with Paul and Silas, and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.

5 E ntonces los judíos que no creían, teniendo celos, tomaron consigo a algunos hombres malvados de la plaza, y juntando una turba, alborotaron la ciudad; y asaltando la casa de Jasón, procuraban sacarlos al pueblo.

But the Jews, being moved with jealousy, took unto them certain vile fellows of the rabble, and gathering a crowd, set the city on an uproar; and assaulting the house of Jason, they sought to bring them forth to the people.

6 P ero no hallándolos, trajeron a Jasón y a algunos hermanos ante las autoridades de la ciudad, gritando: Estos que han revolucionado el mundo entero también han venido acá;

And when they found them not, they dragged Jason and certain brethren before the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;

7 a los cuales Jasón ha recibido; y todos éstos contravienen los decretos de César, diciendo que hay otro rey, Jesús.

whom Jason hath received: and these all act contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus.

8 Y alborotaron al pueblo y a las autoridades de la ciudad, que oían estas cosas.

And they troubled the multitude and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things.

9 P ero obtenida fianza de Jasón y de los demás, los soltaron. Pablo y Silas en Berea

And when they had taken security from Jason and the rest, they let them go.

10 I nmediatamente, los hermanos enviaron de noche a Pablo y a Silas hasta Berea. Y ellos, habiendo llegado, entraron en la sinagoga de los judíos.

And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Beroea: who when they were come thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.

11 Y éstos eran más nobles que los de Tesalónica, pues recibieron la palabra con toda solicitud, escudriñando cada día las Escrituras para ver si estas cosas eran así.

Now these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of the mind, examining the Scriptures daily, whether these things were so.

12 A sí que creyeron muchos de ellos, y mujeres griegas de distinción, y no pocos hombres.

Many of them therefore believed; also of the Greek women of honorable estate, and of men, not a few.

13 C uando los judíos de Tesalónica se enteraron de que también en Berea era anunciada la palabra de Dios por Pablo, fueron allá, y también alborotaron a las multitudes.

But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was proclaimed of Paul at Beroea also, they came thither likewise, stirring up and troubling the multitudes.

14 P ero los hermanos hicieron salir a Pablo a toda prisa para que se fuese hasta la costa; y Silas y Timoteo se quedaron allí.

And then immediately the brethren sent forth Paul to go as far as to the sea: and Silas and Timothy abode there still.

15 Y los que se habían encargado de conducir a Pablo, le llevaron a Atenas; y habiendo recibido orden para Silas y Timoteo, de que viniesen a él lo más pronto que pudiesen, salieron. Pablo en Atenas

But they that conducted Paul brought him as far as Athens: and receiving a commandment unto Silas and Timothy that they should come to him with all speed, they departed.

16 M ientras Pablo los esperaba en Atenas, su espíritu se indignaba al contemplar la ciudad entregada a la idolatría.

Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him as he beheld the city full of idols.

17 A sí que discutía en la sinagoga con los judíos y con los temerosos de Dios, y en la plaza cada día con los que allí se encontraban.

So he reasoned in the synagogue with Jews and the devout persons, and in the marketplace every day with them that met him.

18 Y algunos filósofos de los epicúreos y de los estoicos disputaban con él; y unos decían: ¿Qué querrá decir este charlatán? Y otros: Parece que es predicador de divinidades extrañas; porque les predicaba el evangelio de Jesús, y de la resurrección.

And certain also of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encountered him. And some said, What would this babbler say? others, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached Jesus and the resurrection.

19 Y tomándole, le trajeron al Areópago, diciendo: ¿Podemos saber qué es esta nueva enseñanza de que hablas?

And they took hold of him, and brought him unto the Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new teaching is, which is spoken by thee?

20 P ues traes a nuestros oídos cosas extrañas. Queremos, pues, saber qué quiere decir esto.

For thou bringest certain strange things to our ears: we would know therefore what these things mean.

21 ( Porque todos los atenienses y los extranjeros residentes allí, en ninguna otra cosa se interesaban sino en decir o en oír las últimas novedades.)

(Now all the Athenians and the strangers sojourning there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell or to hear some new thing.)

22 E ntonces Pablo, puesto en pie en medio del Areópago, dijo: Varones atenienses, en todo observo que sois extremadamente religiosos;

And Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus, and said, Ye men of Athens, in all things, I perceive that ye are very religious.

23 p orque mientras pasaba y observaba los objetos de vuestra adoración, hallé también un altar en el cual estaba esta inscripción: AL DIOS DESCONOCIDO. Al que vosotros adoráis, pues, sin conocerle, a ése os vengo a anunciar.

For as I passed along, and observed the objects of your worship, I found also an altar with this inscription, TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. What therefore ye worship in ignorance, this I set forth unto you.

24 E l Dios que hizo el mundo y todas las cosas que hay en él, siendo Señor del cielo y de la tierra, no habita en templos hechos por manos humanas,

The God that made the world and all things therein, he, being Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;

25 n i es servido por manos de hombres, como si necesitase de algo; pues él es quien da a todos vida y aliento y todas las cosas.

neither is he served by men's hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he himself giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;

26 Y de una misma sangre ha hecho toda nación de los hombres, para que habiten sobre toda la faz de la tierra; y les ha prefijado el orden de las estaciones, y las fronteras de sus lugares de residencia;

and he made of one every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed seasons, and the bounds of their habitation;

27 p ara que busquen a Dios, si tal vez, palpando, pueden hallarle, aunque ciertamente no está lejos de cada uno de nosotros.

that they should seek God, if haply they might feel after him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us:

28 P orque en él vivimos, y nos movemos, y somos; como algunos de vuestros propios poetas también han dicho: Porque somos también linaje suyo.

for in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain even of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

29 S iendo, pues, linaje de Dios, no debemos pensar que la Divinidad sea semejante a oro, o plata, o piedra, escultura de arte y de imaginación de hombres.

Being then the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and device of man.

30 P or tanto, Dios, habiendo pasado por alto los tiempos de esta ignorancia, ahora manda a todos los hombres en todo lugar, que se arrepientan;

The times of ignorance therefore God overlooked; but now he commandeth men that they should all everywhere repent:

31 p or cuanto ha establecido un día en el cual va a juzgar al mundo con justicia, por aquel varón a quien designó, dando fe a todos con haberle levantado de los muertos.

inasmuch as he hath appointed a day in which he will judge the world in righteousness by the man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

32 P ero cuando oyeron lo de la resurrección de los muertos, unos se burlaban, y otros decían: Ya te oiremos acerca de esto otra vez.

Now when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked; but others said, We will hear thee concerning this yet again.

33 Y así salió Pablo de en medio de ellos.

Thus Paul went out from among them.

34 M as algunos hombres se unieron a él y creyeron; entre los cuales estaban también Dionisio el areopagita, una mujer llamada Dámaris, y otros con ellos.

But certain men clave unto him, and believed: among whom also was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.
