1 P ero los hombres de Efraín le dijeron: ¿Qué es esto que has hecho con nosotros, no llamándonos cuando ibas a la guerra contra Madián? Y le reconvinieron fuertemente.

And the men of Ephraim said unto him, Why hast thou served us thus, that thou calledst us not, when thou wentest to fight with Midian? And they did chide with him sharply.

2 A los cuales él respondió: ¿Qué he hecho yo ahora comparado con vosotros? ¿No es el rebusco de Efraín mejor que la vendimia de Abiezer?

And he said unto them, What have I now done in comparison with you? Is not the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer?

3 D ios ha entregado en vuestras manos a Oreb y a Zeeb, príncipes de Madián; ¿y qué he podido yo hacer comparado con vosotros? Entonces el enojo de ellos contra él se aplacó, luego que él habló esta palabra.

God hath delivered into your hand the princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb: and what was I able to do in comparison with you? Then their anger was abated toward him, when he had said that.

4 Y vino Gedeón al Jordán, y pasó él y los trescientos hombres que traía consigo, cansados, mas todavía persiguiendo.

And Gideon came to the Jordan, and passed over, he, and the three hundred men that were with him, faint, yet pursuing.

5 Y dijo a los de Sucot: Yo os ruego que deis a la gente que me sigue algunos bocados de pan; porque están cansados, y yo persigo a Zeba y Zalmuná, reyes de Madián.

And he said unto the men of Succoth, Give, I pray you, loaves of bread unto the people that follow me; for they are faint, and I am pursuing after Zebah and Zalmunna, the kings of Midian.

6 Y los principales de Sucot respondieron: ¿Están ya Zeba y Zalmuná en tu mano, para que demos pan a tu ejército?

And the princes of Succoth said, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thy hand, that we should give bread unto thine army?

7 Y Gedeón dijo: Cuando Jehová haya entregado en mi mano a Zeba y Zalmuná, yo trillaré vuestra carne con espinos y abrojos del desierto.

And Gideon said, Therefore when Jehovah hath delivered Zebah and Zalmunna into my hand, then I will tear your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers.

8 D e allí subió a Peniel, y les dijo las mismas palabras. Y los de Peniel le respondieron como habían respondido los de Sucot.

And he went up thence to Penuel, and spake unto them in like manner; and the men of Penuel answered him as the men of Succoth had answered.

9 Y él habló también a los de Peniel, diciendo: Cuando yo vuelva en paz, derribaré esta torre.

And he spake also unto the men of Penuel, saying, When I come again in peace, I will break down this tower.

10 Y Zeba y Zalmuná estaban en Carcor, y con ellos su ejército como de quince mil hombres, todos los que habían quedado de todo el ejército de los hijos del oriente; pues habían caído ciento veinte mil hombres que sacaban espada.

Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor, and their hosts with them, about fifteen thousand men, all that were left of all the host of the children of the east; for there fell a hundred and twenty thousand men that drew sword.

11 S ubiendo, pues, Gedeón por el camino de los que habitaban en tiendas al oriente de Noba y de Jogbehá, atacó el campamento, porque el ejército no estaba en guardia.

And Gideon went up by the way of them that dwelt in tents on the east of Nobah and Jogbehah, and smote the host; for the host was secure.

12 Y huyendo Zeba y Zalmuná, él los siguió; y prendió a los dos reyes de Madián, Zeba y Zalmuná, y llenó de espanto a todo el ejército.

And Zebah and Zalmunna fled; and he pursued after them; and he took the two kings of Midian, Zebah and Zalmunna, and discomfited all the host.

13 E ntonces Gedeón hijo de Joás volvió de la batalla antes que el sol subiese,

And Gideon the son of Joash returned from the battle from the ascent of Heres.

14 y tomó a un joven de los hombres de Sucot, y le preguntó; y él le dio por escrito los nombres de los principales y de los ancianos de Sucot, setenta y siete varones.

And he caught a young man of the men of Succoth, and inquired of him: and he described for him the princes of Succoth, and the elders thereof, seventy and seven men.

15 Y entrando a los hombres de Sucot, dijo: He aquí a Zeba y a Zalmuná, acerca de los cuales me zaheristeis, diciendo: ¿Están ya en tu mano Zeba y Zalmuná, para que demos nosotros pan a tus hombres cansados?

And he came unto the men of Succoth, and said, Behold Zebah and Zalmunna, concerning whom ye did taunt me, saying, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thy hand, that we should give bread unto thy men that are weary?

16 Y tomó a los ancianos de la ciudad, y espinos y abrojos del desierto, y castigó con ellos a los de Sucot.

And he took the elders of the city, and thorns of the wilderness and briers, and with them he taught the men of Succoth.

17 A simismo derribó la torre de Peniel, y mató a los de la ciudad.

And he brake down the tower of Penuel, and slew the men of the city.

18 L uego dijo a Zeba y a Zalmuná: ¿Qué aspecto tenían aquellos hombres que matasteis en Tabor? Y ellos respondieron: Como tú, así eran ellos; cada uno parecía hijo de rey.

Then said he unto Zebah and Zalmunna, What manner of men were they whom ye slew at Tabor? And they answered, As thou art, so were they; each one resembled the children of a king.

19 Y él dijo: Mis hermanos eran, hijos de mi madre. ¡Vive Jehová, que si les hubierais conservado la vida, yo no os mataría!

And he said, They were my brethren, the sons of my mother: as Jehovah liveth, if ye had saved them alive, I would not slay you.

20 Y dijo a Jéter su primogénito: Levántate, y mátalos. Pero el joven no desenvainó su espada, porque tenía temor, pues era aún muchacho.

And he said unto Jether his first-born, Up, and slay them. But the youth drew not his sword; for he feared, because he was yet a youth.

21 E ntonces dijeron Zeba y Zalmuná: Levántate tú, y mátanos; porque como es el varón, tal es su valentía. Y Gedeón se levantó, y mató a Zeba y a Zalmuná; y tomó los adornos de lunetas que sus camellos traían al cuello. Gedeón. Fin de su vida

Then Zebah and Zalmunna said, Rise thou, and fall upon us; for as the man is, so is his strength. And Gideon arose, and slew Zebah and Zalmunna, and took the crescents that were on their camels' necks.

22 Y los israelitas dijeron a Gedeón: Sé nuestro señor, tú, y tu hijo, y tu nieto; pues que nos has librado de mano de Madián.

Then the men of Israel said unto Gideon, Rule thou over us, both thou, and thy son, and thy son's son also; for thou hast saved us out of the hand of Midian.

23 M as Gedeón respondió: No seré señor sobre vosotros, ni mi hijo os señoreará: Jehová señoreará sobre vosotros.

And Gideon said unto them, I will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you: Jehovah shall rule over you.

24 Y les dijo Gedeón: Quiero haceros una petición; que cada uno me dé los zarcillos de su botín (pues traían zarcillos de oro, porque eran ismaelitas).

And Gideon said unto them, I would make a request of you, that ye would give me every man the ear-rings of his spoil. (For they had golden ear-rings, because they were Ishmaelites.)

25 E llos respondieron: De buena gana te los daremos. Y tendiendo un manto, echó allí cada uno los zarcillos de su botín.

And they answered, We will willingly give them. And they spread a garment, and did cast therein every man the ear-rings of his spoil.

26 Y fue el peso de los zarcillos de oro que él pidió, mil setecientos ciclos de oro, sin las planchas y joyeles y vestidos de púrpura que traían los reyes de Madián, y sin los collares que traían sus camellos al cuello.

And the weight of the golden ear-rings that he requested was a thousand and seven hundred shekels of gold, besides the crescents, and the pendants, and the purple raiment that was on the kings of Midian, and besides the chains that were about their camels' necks.

27 Y Gedeón hizo de ellos un efod, el cual hizo guardar en su ciudad de Ofrá; y todo Israel se prostituyó tras de ese efod en aquel lugar; y fue tropezadero a Gedeón y a su casa.

And Gideon made an ephod thereof, and put it in his city, even in Ophrah: and all Israel played the harlot after it there; and it became a snare unto Gideon, and to his house.

28 A sí fue subyugado Madián delante de los hijos de Israel, y nunca más volvió a levantar cabeza. Y reposó la tierra cuarenta años en los días de Gedeón.

So Midian was subdued before the children of Israel, and they lifted up their heads no more. And the land had rest forty years in the days of Gideon.

29 L uego Jerobaal hijo de Joás fue y habitó en su casa.

And Jerubbaal the son of Joash went and dwelt in his own house.

30 Y tuvo Gedeón setenta hijos que constituyeron su descendencia, porque tuvo muchas mujeres.

And Gideon had threescore and ten sons of his body begotten; for he had many wives.

31 T ambién su concubina que estaba en Siquem le dio un hijo, y le puso por nombre Abimelec.

And his concubine that was in Shechem, she also bare him a son, and he called his name Abimelech.

32 Y murió Gedeón hijo de Joás en buena vejez, y fue sepultado en el sepulcro de su padre Joás, en Ofrá de los abiezeritas.

And Gideon the son of Joash died in a good old age, and was buried in the sepulchre of Joash his father, in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

33 P ero aconteció que cuando murió Gedeón, los hijos de Israel volvieron a prostituirse yendo tras los baales, y escogieron por dios a Baal-berit.

And it came to pass, as soon as Gideon was dead, that the children of Israel turned again, and played the harlot after the Baalim, and made Baal-berith their god.

34 Y no se acordaron los hijos de Israel de Jehová su Dios, que los había librado de todos sus enemigos en derredor;

And the children of Israel remembered not Jehovah their God, who had delivered them out of the hand of all their enemies on every side;

35 n i se mostraron agradecidos con la casa de Jerobaal, el cual es Gedeón, conforme a todo el bien que él había hecho a Israel.

neither showed they kindness to the house of Jerubbaal, who is Gideon, according to all the goodness which he had showed unto Israel.
