1 A sí que, amados, puesto que tenemos estas promesas, limpiémonos de toda contaminación de carne y de espíritu, perfeccionando la santidad en el temor de Dios. Regocijo de Pablo al arrepentirse los corintios

Having therefore these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

2 A dmitidnos: a nadie hemos agraviado, a nadie hemos corrompido, a nadie hemos explotado.

Open your hearts to us: we wronged no man, we corrupted no man, we took advantage of no man.

3 N o lo digo para condenaros; pues ya he dicho antes que estáis en nuestro corazón, para morir juntos y para vivir juntos.

I say it not to condemn you: for I have said before, that ye are in our hearts to die together and live together.

4 M ucha franqueza tengo con vosotros; mucho me glorío con respecto de vosotros; lleno estoy de consolación; sobreabundo de gozo en todas nuestras tribulaciones.

Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my glorying on your behalf: I am filled with comfort, I overflow with joy in all our affliction.

5 P orque aun cuando llegamos a Macedonia, ningún reposo tuvo nuestro cuerpo, sino que en todo fuimos atribulados; de fuera, conflictos; de dentro, temores.

For even when we were come into Macedonia our flesh had no relief, but we were afflicted on every side; without were fightings, within were fears.

6 P ero Dios, que consuela a los abatidos, nos consoló con la visita de Tito;

Nevertheless he that comforteth the lowly, even God, comforted us by the coming of Titus;

7 y no sólo con su visita, sino también con la consolación con que él había sido consolado en cuanto a vosotros, haciéndonos saber vuestra añoranza, vuestro pesar, vuestro celo por mí, de manera que me regocijé aún más.

and not by his coming only, but also by the comfort wherewith he was comforted in you, while he told us your longing, your mourning, your zeal for me; so that I rejoiced yet more.

8 P orque aunque os contristé con la carta, no me pesa, aunque entonces me pesó; porque veo que aquella carta, aunque por algún tiempo, os contristó.

For though I made you sorry with my epistle, I do not regret it: though I did regret it (for I see that that epistle made you sorry, though but for a season),

9 A hora me gozo, no porque hayáis sido contristados, sino porque fuisteis contristados para arrepentimiento; porque habéis sido contristados según Dios, para que ningún perjuicio padecieseis por nuestra parte.

I now rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye were made sorry unto repentance; for ye were made sorry after a godly sort, that ye might suffer loss by us in nothing.

10 P orque la tristeza que es según Dios produce un arrepentimiento para salvación, del que no hay que tener pesar; pero la tristeza del mundo produce muerte.

For godly sorrow worketh repentance unto salvation, a repentance which bringeth no regret: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

11 P orque he aquí, esto mismo de que hayáis sido contristados según Dios, ¡qué gran diligencia produjo en vosotros, y qué disculpas, qué indignación, qué temor, qué ardiente afecto, qué celo, y qué vindicación! En todo os habéis mostrado inocentes en el asunto.

For behold, this selfsame thing, that ye were made sorry after a godly sort, what earnest care it wrought in you, yea what clearing of yourselves, yea what indignation, yea what fear, yea what longing, yea what zeal, yea what avenging! In everything ye approved yourselves to be pure in the matter.

12 A sí que, aunque os escribí, no fue por causa del que cometió el agravio, ni por causa del que lo padeció, sino para que se os hiciese manifiesta nuestra solicitud que tenemos por vosotros delante de Dios.

So although I wrote unto you, I wrote not for his cause that did the wrong, nor for his cause that suffered the wrong, but that your earnest care for us might be made manifest unto you in the sight of God.

13 P or esto hemos sido consolados en vuestra consolación; pero mucho más nos hemos regocijado por el gozo de Tito, que haya sido tranquilizado su espíritu por todos vosotros.

Therefore we have been comforted: And in our comfort we joyed the more exceedingly for the joy of Titus, because his spirit hath been refreshed by you all.

14 P ues si de algo me he gloriado con él respecto de vosotros, no he sido avergonzado, sino que así como os hemos hablado todo con verdad, también nuestro gloriarnos ante Tito resultó verdad.

For if in anything I have gloried to him on your behalf, I was not put to shame; but as we spake all things to you in truth, so our glorying also which I made before Titus was found to be truth.

15 Y su cariño para con vosotros es aún más abundante, al recordar la obediencia de todos vosotros, de cómo lo recibisteis con temor y temblor.

And his affection is more abundantly toward you, while he remembereth the obedience of you all, how with fear and trembling ye received him.

16 M e gozo de que en todo tengo confianza en vosotros.

I rejoice that in everything I am of good courage concerning you.
