1 L evantándose entonces toda la muchedumbre de ellos, le condujeron a Pilato.

And the whole company of them rose up, and brought him before Pilate.

2 Y comenzaron a acusarle, diciendo: Hemos hallado a éste pervirtiendo a la nación, prohibiendo dar tributo a César, y diciendo que él mismo es Cristo rey.

And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this man perverting our nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ a king.

3 E ntonces Pilato le preguntó, diciendo: ¿Eres tú el Rey de los judíos? Y respondiéndole él, dijo: Tú lo dices.

And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, Thou sayest.

4 Y Pilato dijo a los principales sacerdotes, y a la gente: Ningún delito hallo en este hombre.

And Pilate said unto the chief priests and the multitudes, I find no fault in this man.

5 P ero ellos porfiaban, diciendo: Solivianta al pueblo, enseñando por toda Judea, comenzando desde Galilea hasta aquí. Jesús ante Herodes

But they were the more urgent, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Judaea, and beginning from Galilee even unto this place.

6 E ntonces Pilato, oyendo decir Galilea, preguntó si el hombre era galileo.

But when Pilate heard it, he asked whether the man were a Galilaean.

7 Y al percatarse de que era de la jurisdicción de Herodes, le remitió a Herodes, que en aquellos días estaba también en Jerusalén.

And when he knew that he was of Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him unto Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem in these days.

8 H erodes, al ver a Jesús, se alegró mucho, porque hacía bastante tiempo que deseaba verle; porque había oído muchas cosas acerca de él, y esperaba verle hacer alguna señal.

Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad: for he was of a long time desirous to see him, because he had heard concerning him; and he hoped to see some miracle done by him.

9 Y le hacía muchas preguntas, pero él nada le respondió.

And he questioned him in many words; but he answered him nothing.

10 Y estaban los principales sacerdotes y los escribas acusándole con gran vehemencia.

And the chief priests and the scribes stood, vehemently accusing him.

11 E ntonces Herodes con sus soldados, después de menospreciarle y escarnecerle, le vistió de una ropa espléndida; y volvió a enviarle a Pilato.

And Herod with his soldiers set him at nought, and mocked him, and arraying him in gorgeous apparel sent him back to Pilate.

12 Y se hicieron amigos Pilato y Herodes aquel día; porque antes estaban enemistados entre sí. Jesús, sentenciado a muerte

And Herod and Pilate became friends with each other that very day: for before they were at enmity between themselves.

13 E ntonces Pilato, convocando a los principales sacerdotes, a los gobernantes, y al pueblo,

And Pilate called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,

14 l es dijo: Me habéis presentado a este hombre como alborotador del pueblo; pero habiéndole interrogado yo delante de vosotros, no he hallado en este hombre ningún delito de los que le acusáis.

and said unto them, Ye brought unto me this man, as one that perverteth the people: and behold, I having examined him before you, found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him:

15 N i tampoco Herodes; porque os remití a él; y he aquí que nada digno de muerte ha hecho él.

no, nor yet Herod: for he sent him back unto us; and behold, nothing worthy of death hath been done by him.

16 L e soltaré, pues, después de castigarle.

I will therefore chastise him, and release him.

17 Y tenía necesidad de soltarles uno en cada fiesta.

Now he must needs release unto them at the feast one prisoner.

18 P ero toda la multitud dio voces a una, diciendo: ¡Fuera con ése, y suéltanos a Barrabás!

But they cried out all together, saying, Away with this man, and release unto us Barabbas: --

19 E l cual había sido echado en la cárcel por sedición ocurrida en la ciudad, y por un homicidio.

one who for a certain insurrection made in the city, and for murder, was cast into prison.

20 L es habló otra vez Pilato, queriendo soltar a Jesús;

And Pilate spake unto them again, desiring to release Jesus;

21 p ero ellos persistían en dar voces, diciendo: ¡Crucifícale, crucifícale!

but they shouted, saying, Crucify, crucify him.

22 É l les dijo por tercera vez: ¿Pues qué mal ha hecho éste? Ningún delito digno de muerte he hallado en él; le castigaré, pues, y le soltaré.

And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil hath this man done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him and release him.

23 M as ellos instaban a grandes voces, pidiendo que fuese crucificado. Y las voces de ellos y de los principales sacerdotes prevalecieron.

But they were urgent with loud voices, asking that he might be crucified. And their voices prevailed.

24 E ntonces Pilato sentenció que se hiciese lo que ellos pedían;

And Pilate gave sentence that what they asked for should be done.

25 y les soltó a aquel que había sido echado en la cárcel por sedición y homicidio, a quien habían pedido; y entregó a Jesús a la voluntad de ellos. Crucifixión y muerte de Jesucristo

And he released him that for insurrection and murder had been cast into prison, whom they asked for; but Jesus he delivered up to their will.

26 Y cuando lo llevaban, tomaron a cierto Simón de Cirene, que venía del campo, y le pusieron encima la cruz para que la llevase tras Jesús.

And when they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon of Cyrene, coming from the country, and laid on him the cross, to bear it after Jesus.

27 Y le seguía gran multitud del pueblo, y de mujeres que se dolían y se lamentaban por él.

And there followed him a great multitude of the people, and of women who bewailed and lamented him.

28 P ero Jesús, vuelto hacia ellas, les dijo: Hijas de Jerusalén, no lloréis por mí, sino llorad por vosotras mismas y por vuestros hijos.

But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.

29 P orque he aquí que vendrán días en que dirán: Dichosas las estériles, y los vientres que no concibieron, y los pechos que no criaron.

For behold, the days are coming, in which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the breasts that never gave suck.

30 E ntonces comenzarán a decir a los montes: Caed sobre nosotros; y a los collados: Cubridnos.

Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.

31 P orque si en el leño verde hacen estas cosas, ¿qué sucederá con el seco?

For if they do these things in the green tree, what shall be done in the dry?

32 L levaban también a otros dos, que eran malhechores, para ser ejecutados con él.

And there were also two others, malefactors, led with him to be put to death.

33 Y cuando llegaron al lugar llamado de la Calavera, allí le crucificaron a él, y a los malhechores, uno a la derecha y otro a la izquierda.

And when they came unto the place which is called The skull, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand and the other on the left.

34 Y Jesús decía: Padre, perdónalos, porque no saben lo que hacen. Y repartieron entre sí sus vestidos, echando suertes.

And Jesus said, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And parting his garments among them, they cast lots.

35 Y el pueblo estaba de pie, mirando; y aun los gobernantes se burlaban de él, diciendo: A otros salvó; sálvese a sí mismo, si éste es el Cristo, el escogido de Dios.

And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also scoffed at him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if this is the Christ of God, his chosen.

36 T ambién los soldados le escarnecían, acercándose y ofreciéndole vinagre,

And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, offering him vinegar,

37 y diciendo: Si tú eres el Rey de los judíos, sálvate a ti mismo.

and saying, If thou art the King of the Jews, save thyself.

38 H abía también una inscripción sobre él, escrita con letras griegas, latinas y hebreas: ÉSTE ES EL REY DE LOS JUDÍOS.

And there was also a superscription over him, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

39 Y uno de los malhechores que estaban colgados le injuriaba, diciendo: Si tú eres el Cristo, sálvate a ti mismo y a nosotros.

And one of the malefactors that were hanged railed on him, saying, Art not thou the Christ? save thyself and us.

40 R espondiendo el otro, le reprendía, diciendo: ¿Ni siquiera temes tú a Dios, viendo que estás bajo la misma sentencia de condenación?

But the other answered, and rebuking him said, Dost thou not even fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?

41 N osotros, a la verdad, justamente, porque estamos recibiendo lo que merecieron nuestros hechos; pero éste no ha hecho nada impropio.

And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.

42 Y decía a Jesús: Señor, acuérdate de mí cuando vengas en tu reino.

And he said, Jesus, remember me when thou comest in thy kingdom.

43 E ntonces Jesús le dijo: De cierto te digo: Hoy estarás conmigo en el paraíso.

And he said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To-day shalt thou be with me in Paradise.

44 C uando era como la hora sexta, hubo tinieblas sobre toda la tierra hasta la hora novena.

And it was now about the sixth hour, and a darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour,

45 Y el sol se oscureció, y el velo del templo se rasgó por la mitad.

the sun's light failing: and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst.

46 Y Jesús, clamando a gran voz, dijo: Padre, en tus manos encomiendo mi espíritu. Y habiendo dicho esto, expiró.

And Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said this, he gave up the ghost.

47 C uando el centurión vio lo que había acontecido, dio gloria a Dios, diciendo: Realmente, este hombre era justo.

And when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man.

48 Y toda la multitud de los que habían acudido a este espectáculo, viendo lo que había acontecido, se volvían golpeándose el pecho.

And all the multitudes that came together to this sight, when they beheld the things that were done, returned smiting their breasts.

49 P ero estaban de pie a distancia todos sus conocidos, y las mujeres que le habían seguido desde Galilea, mirando estas cosas. Jesús es sepultado

And all his acquaintance, and the women that followed with him from Galilee, stood afar off, seeing these things.

50 H abía un hombre llamado José, el cual era miembro del consejo, varón bueno y justo,

And behold, a man named Joseph, who was a councillor, a good and righteous man

51 ( el cual no había consentido en el acuerdo ni en los hechos de ellos), de Arimatea, ciudad de los judíos, el cual también estaba esperando el reino de Dios.

(he had not consented to their counsel and deed), a man of Arimathaea, a city of the Jews, who was looking for the kingdom of God:

52 É ste fue a Pilato, y pidió el cuerpo de Jesús.

this man went to Pilate, and asked for the body of Jesus.

53 Y descolgándolo, lo envolvió en una sábana, y lo puso en un sepulcro excavado en roca, en el cual aún no se había puesto a nadie.

And he took it down, and wrapped it in a linen cloth, and laid him in a tomb that was hewn in stone, where never man had yet lain.

54 E ra el día de la Preparación, y estaba para comenzar el sábado.

And it was the day of the Preparation, and the sabbath drew on.

55 Y las mujeres que habían venido con él desde Galilea, siguieron también, y vieron el sepulcro, y cómo fue puesto su cuerpo.

And the women, who had come with him out of Galilee, followed after, and beheld the tomb, and how his body was laid.

56 Y regresando, prepararon especias aromáticas y ungüentos; y descansaron el sábado, conforme al mandamiento.

And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments. And on the sabbath they rested according to the commandment.
