1 E ntonces Job respondió:

Then Job answered and said,

2 “ En verdad yo sé que es así, Pero ¿cómo puede un hombre ser justo delante de Dios ?

I know it is so of a truth: but how should man be just with God?

3 S i alguien quisiera discutir con El, No podría contestar ni una vez entre mil.

If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand.

4 S abio de corazón y robusto de fuerzas, ¿Quién Lo ha desafiado sin sufrir daño ?

He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against him, and hath prospered?

5 D ios es el que remueve los montes, y éstos no saben cómo Cuando los vuelca en Su furor;

Which removeth the mountains, and they know not: which overturneth them in his anger.

6 E l es el que sacude la tierra de su lugar, Y sus columnas tiemblan.

Which shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble.

7 E l que manda al sol que no brille, Y pone sello a las estrellas;

Which commandeth the sun, and it riseth not; and sealeth up the stars.

8 E l que solo extiende los cielos, Y anda sobre las olas del mar;

Which alone spreadeth out the heavens, and treadeth upon the waves of the sea.

9 E l es el que hace la Osa, el Orión y las Pléyades, Y las cámaras del sur;

Which maketh Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south.

10 E l que hace grandes cosas, inescrutables, Y maravillas sin número.

Which doeth great things past finding out; yea, and wonders without number.

11 S i El pasara junto a mí, no Lo vería; Si me pasara adelante, no Lo percibiría.

Lo, he goeth by me, and I see him not: he passeth on also, but I perceive him not.

12 S i El arrebatara algo, ¿quién Lo impediría ? Quién podrá decirle: ‘¿Qué haces ?’

Behold, he taketh away, who can hinder him? who will say unto him, What doest thou?

13 D ios no retirará Su ira; Debajo de El quedan humillados los que ayudan al Rahab (monstruo marino).

If God will not withdraw his anger, the proud helpers do stoop under him.

14 ¿ Cómo puedo yo responderle, Y escoger mis palabras delante de El?

How much less shall I answer him, and choose out my words to reason with him?

15 P orque aunque yo tuviera razón, no podría responder; Tendría que implorar la misericordia de mi Juez.

Whom, though I were righteous, yet would I not answer, but I would make supplication to my judge.

16 S i yo llamara y El me respondiera, No podría creer que escuchara mi voz.

If I had called, and he had answered me; yet would I not believe that he had hearkened unto my voice.

17 P orque El me quebranta con tempestad, Y sin causa multiplica mis heridas.

For he breaketh me with a tempest, and multiplieth my wounds without cause.

18 N o me permite cobrar aliento, Sino que me llena de amarguras.

He will not suffer me to take my breath, but filleth me with bitterness.

19 S i es cuestión de poder, El es poderoso; Y si es cuestión de justicia, ¿quién Lo citará?

If I speak of strength, lo, he is strong: and if of judgment, who shall set me a time to plead?

20 A unque soy justo, mi boca me condenará; Aunque soy inocente (íntegro), El me declarará culpable.

If I justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me: if I say, I am perfect, it shall also prove me perverse.

21 I nocente soy, No hago caso de mí mismo, Desprecio mi vida.

Though I were perfect, yet would I not know my soul: I would despise my life.

22 T odo es lo mismo, por tanto digo: ‘El destruye al inocente y al impío.’

This is one thing, therefore I said it, He destroyeth the perfect and the wicked.

23 S i el azote mata de repente, El se burla de la desesperación del inocente.

If the scourge slay suddenly, he will laugh at the trial of the innocent.

24 L a tierra es entregada en manos de los impíos; El cubre el rostro de sus jueces; Si no es El, ¿entonces quién será?

The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: he covereth the faces of the judges thereof; if not, where, and who is he?

25 M is días son más ligeros que un corredor; Huyen, no ven el bien;

Now my days are swifter than a post: they flee away, they see no good.

26 S e deslizan como barcos de juncos, Como águila que se arroja sobre su presa.

They are passed away as the swift ships: as the eagle that hasteth to the prey.

27 A unque yo diga: ‘Olvidaré mi queja, Cambiaré mi triste semblante y me alegraré,’

If I say, I will forget my complaint, I will leave off my heaviness, and comfort myself:

28 T emeroso estoy de todos mis dolores, Sé que Tú no me absolverás.

I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know that thou wilt not hold me innocent.

29 S i soy impío, ¿Para qué, pues, esforzarme en vano?

If I be wicked, why then labour I in vain?

30 S i me lavara con nieve Y limpiara mis manos con lejía,

If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands never so clean;

31 A un así me hundirías en la fosa, Y mis propios vestidos me aborrecerían.

Yet shalt thou plunge me in the ditch, and mine own clothes shall abhor me.

32 P orque El no es hombre como yo, para que Le responda, Para que juntos vengamos a juicio.

For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, and we should come together in judgment.

33 N o hay árbitro entre nosotros, Que ponga su mano sobre ambos.

Neither is there any daysman betwixt us, that might lay his hand upon us both.

34 Q ue El quite de mí Su vara, Y no me espante Su terror.

Let him take his rod away from me, and let not his fear terrify me:

35 E ntonces yo hablaré y no Le temeré; Porque en mi opinión yo no soy así.

Then would I speak, and not fear him; but it is not so with me.
