1 E ntonces el Señor dijo a Moisés: “Anda, sube de aquí, tú y el pueblo que has sacado de la tierra de Egipto, a la tierra de la cual juré a Abraham, a Isaac y a Jacob, diciendo: ‘A tu descendencia la daré.’

And the Lord said unto Moses, Depart, and go up hence, thou and the people which thou hast brought up out of the land of Egypt, unto the land which I sware unto Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, Unto thy seed will I give it:

2 E nviaré un ángel delante de ti, y echaré fuera a los Cananeos, a los Amorreos, a los Hititas, a los Ferezeos, a los Heveos y a los Jebuseos.

And I will send an angel before thee; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite:

3 S ube a una tierra que mana leche y miel. Pues Yo no subiré en medio de ti, oh Israel, no sea que te destruya en el camino, porque eres un pueblo terco.”

Unto a land flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in the midst of thee; for thou art a stiffnecked people: lest I consume thee in the way.

4 C uando el pueblo oyó esta mala noticia, hicieron duelo, y ninguno de ellos se puso sus joyas.

And when the people heard these evil tidings, they mourned: and no man did put on him his ornaments.

5 P orque el Señor había dicho a Moisés: “Dile a los Israelitas: ‘Ustedes son un pueblo terco. Si por un momento Yo me presentara en medio de ustedes, los destruiría. Ahora pues, quítense sus joyas, para que Yo sepa qué he de hacer con ustedes.’”

For the Lord had said unto Moses, Say unto the children of Israel, Ye are a stiffnecked people: I will come up into the midst of thee in a moment, and consume thee: therefore now put off thy ornaments from thee, that I may know what to do unto thee.

6 A partir del Monte Horeb los Israelitas se despojaron de sus joyas.

And the children of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments by the mount Horeb.

7 M oisés acostumbraba tomar la tienda, y la levantaba fuera del campamento a buena distancia de éste, y la llamó la tienda de reunión. Y sucedía que todo el que buscaba al Señor salía a la tienda de reunión, que estaba fuera del campamento.

And Moses took the tabernacle, and pitched it without the camp, afar off from the camp, and called it the Tabernacle of the congregation. And it came to pass, that every one which sought the Lord went out unto the tabernacle of the congregation, which was without the camp.

8 C uando Moisés salía a la tienda, todo el pueblo se levantaba y permanecía de pie, cada uno a la entrada de su tienda, y seguía con la vista a Moisés hasta que él entraba en la tienda.

And it came to pass, when Moses went out unto the tabernacle, that all the people rose up, and stood every man at his tent door, and looked after Moses, until he was gone into the tabernacle.

9 T ambién cuando Moisés entraba en la tienda, la columna de nube descendía y permanecía a la entrada de la tienda, y el Señor hablaba con Moisés.

And it came to pass, as Moses entered into the tabernacle, the cloudy pillar descended, and stood at the door of the tabernacle, and the Lord talked with Moses.

10 C uando todo el pueblo veía la columna de nube situada a la entrada de la tienda de reunión todos se levantaban y adoraban, cada cual a la entrada de su tienda.

And all the people saw the cloudy pillar stand at the tabernacle door: and all the people rose up and worshipped, every man in his tent door.

11 Y el Señor acostumbraba hablar con Moisés cara a cara, como habla un hombre con su amigo. Cuando Moisés regresaba al campamento, su joven ayudante Josué, hijo de Nun, no se apartaba de la tienda. Moisés Responde al Señor

And the Lord spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle.

12 E ntonces Moisés dijo al Señor: “Mira, Tú me dices: ‘Haz subir a este pueblo.’ Pero Tú no me has declarado a quién enviarás conmigo. Además has dicho: ‘Te he conocido por tu nombre, y también has hallado gracia ante Mis ojos.’

And Moses said unto the Lord, See, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people: and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, I know thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in my sight.

13 A hora pues, si he hallado gracia ante Tus ojos, Te ruego que me hagas conocer Tus caminos para que yo Te conozca y halle gracia ante Tus ojos. Considera también que esta nación es Tu pueblo.”

Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people.

14 “ Mi presencia irá contigo, y Yo te daré descanso,” le contestó el Señor.

And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.

15 E ntonces Moisés le dijo: “Si Tu presencia no va con nosotros, no nos hagas salir de aquí.

And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.

16 ¿ Pues en qué se conocerá que he hallado gracia ante Tus ojos, yo y Tu pueblo? ¿No es acaso en que Tú vayas con nosotros, para que nosotros, yo y Tu pueblo, nos distingamos de todos los demás pueblos que están sobre la superficie de la tierra ?”

For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth.

17 Y el Señor respondió a Moisés: “También haré esto que has hablado, por cuanto has hallado gracia ante Mis ojos y te he conocido por tu nombre.”

And the Lord said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name.

18 E ntonces Moisés dijo: “Te ruego que me muestres Tu gloria.”

And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory.

19 Y el Señor respondió: “Yo haré pasar toda Mi bondad delante de ti, y proclamaré el nombre del Señor delante de ti. Tendré misericordia del que tendré misericordia, y tendré compasión de quien tendré compasión.”

And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.

20 Y añadió: “No puedes ver Mi rostro; porque nadie Me puede ver, y vivir.”

And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.

21 E ntonces el Señor dijo: “Hay un lugar junto a Mí, y tú estarás sobre la peña;

And the Lord said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock:

22 y sucederá que al pasar Mi gloria, te pondré en una hendidura de la peña y te cubriré con Mi mano hasta que Yo haya pasado.

And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by:

23 D espués apartaré Mi mano y verás Mis espaldas; pero Mi rostro no se verá.”

And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.
