1 O igan esta palabra que yo pronuncio como lamentación sobre ustedes, casa de Israel.

Hear ye this word which I take up against you, even a lamentation, O house of Israel.

2 H a caído, no volverá a levantarse La virgen de Israel. Abandonada yace en su tierra, No hay quien la levante.

The virgin of Israel is fallen; she shall no more rise: she is forsaken upon her land; there is none to raise her up.

3 P orque así dice el Señor Dios: “La ciudad que sale con mil, Se quedará con cien; Y la que sale con cien, Se quedará con diez en la casa de Israel.”

For thus saith the Lord God; The city that went out by a thousand shall leave an hundred, and that which went forth by an hundred shall leave ten, to the house of Israel.

4 P orque así dice el Señor a la casa de Israel: “Búsquenme, y vivirán.

For thus saith the Lord unto the house of Israel, Seek ye me, and ye shall live:

5 P ero no busquen a Betel (Casa de Dios), Ni vayan a Gilgal, Ni pasen a Beerseba; Porque ciertamente Gilgal será llevada cautiva, Y Betel caerá en desgracia.

But seek not Bethel, nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not to Beersheba: for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Bethel shall come to nought.

6 B usquen al Señor y vivirán, No sea que El les caiga como fuego, oh casa de José, Y consuma a Betel sin que haya quien lo apague;

Seek the Lord, and ye shall live; lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph, and devour it, and there be none to quench it in Bethel.

7 C onsuma a los que convierten el juicio en ajenjo Y echan por tierra la justicia.”

Ye who turn judgment to wormwood, and leave off righteousness in the earth,

8 E l que hizo las Pléyades y el Orión, Cambia las densas tinieblas en aurora, Y hace oscurecer el día en noche; El que llama a las aguas del mar, Y las derrama sobre la superficie de la tierra: El Señor es Su nombre.

Seek him that maketh the seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The Lord is his name:

9 E l es quien desencadena destrucción sobre el fuerte, Y hace que la ruina venga sobre la fortaleza.

That strengtheneth the spoiled against the strong, so that the spoiled shall come against the fortress.

10 E llos odian en la puerta (de la ciudad) al que reprende, Y aborrecen al que habla con integridad.

They hate him that rebuketh in the gate, and they abhor him that speaketh uprightly.

11 P or tanto, ya que imponen fuertes impuestos sobre el pobre Y exigen de él tributo de grano, Las casas de piedra labrada que han edificado, No las habitarán; Han plantado viñas escogidas, pero no beberán su vino.

Forasmuch therefore as your treading is upon the poor, and ye take from him burdens of wheat: ye have built houses of hewn stone, but ye shall not dwell in them; ye have planted pleasant vineyards, but ye shall not drink wine of them.

12 P ues yo sé que muchas son sus transgresiones y graves sus pecados: Oprimen al justo, aceptan soborno Y rechazan a los pobres en la puerta (de la ciudad).

For I know your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins: they afflict the just, they take a bribe, and they turn aside the poor in the gate from their right.

13 P or tanto, el prudente se calla en ese tiempo, pues es tiempo malo.

Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time; for it is an evil time.

14 B usquen lo bueno y no lo malo, para que vivan; Y así sea con ustedes el Señor, Dios de los ejércitos. ¡Tal como han dicho!

Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the Lord, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken.

15 A borrezcan el mal, amen el bien, Y establezcan la justicia (el derecho) en la puerta (de la ciudad). Tal vez el Señor, Dios de los ejércitos, Sea misericordioso con el remanente de José.

Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the Lord God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.

16 P or tanto, así dice el Señor, el Señor Dios de los ejércitos: “En todas las plazas hay llanto, Y en todas las calles dicen: ‘¡Ay! ¡Ay! ’ Llaman a duelo al labrador, Y a lamentación a los llorones profesionales.

Therefore the Lord, the God of hosts, the Lord, saith thus; Wailing shall be in all streets; and they shall say in all the highways, Alas! alas! and they shall call the husbandman to mourning, and such as are skilful of lamentation to wailing.

17 E n todas las viñas habrá llanto, Porque pasaré por en medio de ti,” dice el Señor.

And in all vineyards shall be wailing: for I will pass through thee, saith the Lord.

18 ¡ Ay de los que ansían el día del Señor! ¿De qué les servirá el día del Señor ? Será tinieblas, y no luz;

Woe unto you that desire the day of the Lord! to what end is it for you? the day of the Lord is darkness, and not light.

19 C omo cuando uno huye de un león, Y se encuentra con un oso, O va a casa, apoya la mano en la pared, Y lo muerde una culebra.

As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him.

20 ¿ No será tinieblas el día del Señor, y no luz, Oscuridad, y no resplandor ?

Shall not the day of the Lord be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?

21 “ Aborrezco, desprecio sus fiestas, Tampoco Me agradan sus asambleas solemnes.

I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies.

22 A unque ustedes Me ofrezcan holocaustos y sus ofrendas de grano, No los aceptaré; Ni miraré a las ofrendas de paz de sus animales cebados.

Though ye offer me burnt offerings and your meat offerings, I will not accept them: neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts.

23 A parten de Mí el ruido de sus cánticos, Pues no escucharé ni siquiera la música de sus arpas.

Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs; for I will not hear the melody of thy viols.

24 P ero corra el juicio como las aguas Y la justicia como una corriente inagotable.

But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.

25 “ ¿Acaso Me ofrecieron sacrificios y ofrendas de cereal por cuarenta años en el desierto, oh casa de Israel ?

Have ye offered unto me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel?

26 M ás bien, llevaron a Sicut, su rey, y a Quiyún, sus ídolos, la estrella de sus dioses que ustedes se hicieron.

But ye have borne the tabernacle of your Moloch and Chiun your images, the star of your god, which ye made to yourselves.

27 Y o los haré, pues, deportar más allá de Damasco,” dice el Señor, cuyo nombre es Dios de los ejércitos.

Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, saith the Lord, whose name is The God of hosts.
