1 E l Señor respondió a Job desde el torbellino y dijo:

Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

2 “ ¿Quién es éste que oscurece el consejo Con palabras sin conocimiento ?

Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?

3 C iñe ahora tus lomos como un hombre, Y Yo te preguntaré, y tú Me instruirás.

Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.

4 ¿ Dónde estabas tú cuando Yo echaba los cimientos de la tierra ? Dí melo, si tienes inteligencia.

Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.

5 ¿ Quién puso sus medidas ? Ya que sabes. ¿O quién extendió sobre ella cordel?

Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?

6 ¿ Sobre qué se asientan sus basas, O quién puso su piedra angular

Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;

7 C uando cantaban juntas las estrellas del alba, Y todos los hijos de Dios gritaban de gozo?

When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

8 ¿ O quién encerró con puertas el mar, Cuando, irrumpiendo, se salió de su seno;

Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?

9 C uando hice de una nube su vestidura, Y de espesa oscuridad sus pañales;

When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,

10 C uando sobre él establecí límites, Puse puertas y cerrojos,

And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors,

11 Y dije: ‘Hasta aquí llegarás, pero no más allá; Aquí se detendrá el orgullo de tus olas?’

And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?

12 ¿ Alguna vez en tu vida has mandado a la mañana, O le has hecho conocer al alba su lugar,

Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; and caused the dayspring to know his place;

13 P ara que ella eche mano a los confines de la tierra, Y de ella sean sacudidos los impíos ?

That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it?

14 E lla cambia como barro bajo el sello; Y como con vestidura se presenta.

It is turned as clay to the seal; and they stand as a garment.

15 P ero es quitada la luz a los impíos, Y es quebrado el brazo rebelde.

And from the wicked their light is withholden, and the high arm shall be broken.

16 ¿ Has entrado hasta las fuentes del mar, O andado en las profundidades del abismo ?

Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? or hast thou walked in the search of the depth?

17 ¿ Te han sido reveladas las puertas de la muerte, O has visto las puertas de la densa oscuridad ?

Have the gates of death been opened unto thee? or hast thou seen the doors of the shadow of death?

18 ¿ Has comprendido la extensión de la tierra ? Dí melo, si tú sabes todo esto.

Hast thou perceived the breadth of the earth? declare if thou knowest it all.

19 ¿ Dónde está el camino a la morada de la luz? Y la oscuridad, ¿dónde está su lugar,

Where is the way where light dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof,

20 P ara que la lleves a su territorio, Y para que entiendas los senderos de su casa?

That thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof, and that thou shouldest know the paths to the house thereof?

21 ¡ Tú lo sabes, porque entonces ya habías nacido, Y grande es el número de tus días!

Knowest thou it, because thou wast then born? or because the number of thy days is great?

22 ¿ Has entrado en los depósitos de la nieve, O has visto los depósitos del granizo,

Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail,

23 Q ue he reservado para el tiempo de angustia, Para el día de guerra y de batalla?

Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?

24 ¿ Dónde está el camino en que se divide la luz, O el viento del este esparcido sobre la tierra?

By what way is the light parted, which scattereth the east wind upon the earth?

25 ¿ Quién ha abierto un canal para el turbión, O un camino para el rayo,

Who hath divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder;

26 P ara traer lluvia sobre tierra despoblada, Sobre un desierto sin hombre alguno,

To cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man;

27 P ara saciar la tierra desierta y desolada, Y hacer brotar las semillas de la hierba?

To satisfy the desolate and waste ground; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth?

28 ¿ Tiene padre la lluvia ? ¿Quién ha engendrado las gotas de rocío?

Hath the rain a father? or who hath begotten the drops of dew?

29 ¿ Del vientre de quién ha salido el hielo ? Y la escarcha del cielo, ¿quién la ha dado a luz?

Out of whose womb came the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it?

30 E l agua se endurece como la piedra, Y aprisionada está la superficie del abismo.

The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.

31 ¿ Puedes tú atar las cadenas de estrellas de las Pléyades, O desatar las cuerdas de la constelación Orión ?

Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?

32 ¿ Haces aparecer una constelación a su tiempo, Y conduces (las estrellas de) la Osa con sus hijos?

Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?

33 ¿ Conoces tú las ordenanzas de los cielos, O fijas su dominio en la tierra ?

Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?

34 ¿ Puedes levantar tu voz a las nubes, Para que abundancia de agua te cubra ?

Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover thee?

35 ¿ Envías los relámpagos para que vayan Y te digan: ‘Aquí estamos ’?

Canst thou send lightnings, that they may go and say unto thee, Here we are?

36 ¿ Quién ha puesto sabiduría en lo más íntimo del ser, O ha dado a la mente inteligencia ?

Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? or who hath given understanding to the heart?

37 ¿ Quién puede contar las nubes con sabiduría, O inclinar los cántaros de los cielos,

Who can number the clouds in wisdom? or who can stay the bottles of heaven,

38 C uando el polvo en masa se endurece, Y los terrones se pegan entre sí?

When the dust groweth into hardness, and the clods cleave fast together?

39 ¿ Puedes cazar la presa para la leona, O saciar el apetito de los leoncillos

Wilt thou hunt the prey for the lion? or fill the appetite of the young lions,

40 C uando se agachan en sus madrigueras, O están al acecho en sus guaridas ?

When they couch in their dens, and abide in the covert to lie in wait?

41 ¿ Quién prepara para el cuervo su alimento Cuando sus crías claman a Dios Y vagan sin comida ?

Who provideth for the raven his food? when his young ones cry unto God, they wander for lack of meat.
