1 N o tengas envidia de los malvados, ni desees estar con ellos;
Do not be jealous of sinful men. Do not want to be with them.
2 p orque su corazón trama violencia, y sus labios hablan de hacer mal.
For their hearts make plans to hurt others and their lips talk about trouble.
3 C on sabiduría se edifica una casa, y con prudencia se afianza;
A house is built by wisdom. It is made strong by understanding,
4 c on conocimiento se llenan las cámaras de todo bien preciado y deseable.
and by much learning the rooms are filled with all riches that are pleasing and of great worth.
5 E l hombre sabio es fuerte, y el hombre de conocimiento aumenta su poder.
A wise man is strong. A man of much learning adds to his strength.
6 P orque con dirección sabia harás la guerra, y en la abundancia de consejeros está la victoria.
For by wise leading you will make war, and the fight is won when there are many wise men to help you make the plans.
7 M uy alta está la sabiduría para el necio, en la puerta no abre su boca.
Wisdom is too hard for a fool to understand. He does not open his mouth in the gate.
8 A l que planea hacer el mal, lo llamarán intrigante.
He who plans to do wrong will be called a trouble maker.
9 E l tramar necedad es pecado, y el escarnecedor es abominación a los hombres.
Planning to do foolish things is sin, and the man who laughs at the truth is hated by men.
10 S i eres débil en día de angustia, tu fuerza es limitada.
If you are weak in the day of trouble, your strength is small.
11 L ibra a los que son llevados a la muerte, y retén a los que van con pasos vacilantes a la matanza.
Save those who are being taken away to death. Keep them from being killed.
12 S i dices: Mira, no sabíamos esto. ¿No lo tiene en cuenta el que sondea los corazones ? ¿No lo sabe el que guarda tu alma ? ¿No dará a cada hombre según su obra ?
If you say, “See, we did not know this,” does not He Who knows what is in hearts see it? Does not He Who keeps watch over your soul know it? And will He not pay each man for his work?
13 C ome miel, hijo mío, porque es buena; sí, la miel del panal es dulce a tu paladar.
My son, eat honey, for it is good. Yes, the honey from the comb is sweet to your taste.
14 S abe que así es la sabiduría para tu alma; si la hallas, entonces habrá un futuro, y tu esperanza no será cortada.
Know that wisdom is like this to your soul. If you find it, there will be a future, and your hope will not be cut off.
15 N o aceches, oh impío, la morada del justo, no destruyas su lugar de descanso;
O sinful man, do not lie in wait against the house of the man who is right with God. Do not destroy his resting place.
16 p orque el justo cae siete veces; y vuelve a levantarse, pero los impíos caerán en la desgracia.
For a man who is right with God falls seven times, and rises again, but the sinful fall in time of trouble.
17 N o te regocijes cuando caiga tu enemigo, y no se alegre tu corazón cuando tropiece;
Do not be full of joy when the one who hates you falls. Do not let your heart be glad when he trips.
18 n o sea que el Señor lo vea y le desagrade, y aparte de él su ira.
The Lord will see it and will not be pleased, and He will turn away His anger from him.
19 N o te impacientes a causa de los malhechores, ni tengas envidia de los impíos,
Do not worry yourself because of those who do wrong, and do not be jealous of the sinful.
20 p orque no habrá futuro para el malo. La lámpara de los impíos será apagada.
For there will be no future for the sinful man. The lamp of the sinful will be put out.
21 H ijo mío, teme al Señor y al rey, no te asocies con los que son inestables;
My son, fear the Lord and the king. Have nothing to do with those who are given to change.
22 p orque de repente se levantará su desgracia, y la destrucción que vendrá de ambos, ¿quién la sabe?
For their trouble will rise up all at once, and who knows how much both of them will destroy?
23 T ambién éstos son dichos de los sabios: Hacer acepción de personas en el juicio no es bueno.
These also are sayings of the wise. It is not good to show favor in judging.
24 A l que dice al impío: Justo eres, lo maldecirán los pueblos, lo aborrecerán las naciones;
He who says to the sinful, “You are right and good,” will be spoken against by people and hated by nations.
25 m as los que lo reprenden tendrán felicidad, y sobre ellos vendrá abundante bendición.
But those who speak strong words to the sinful will find joy and good will come upon them.
26 B esa los labios el que da una respuesta correcta.
To give the right answer is like a kiss on the lips.
27 O rdena tus labores de fuera, y tenlas listas para ti en el campo; y después edifica tu casa.
Get your work done outside. Make your fields ready. Then after that, build your house.
28 N o seas, sin causa, testigo contra tu prójimo, y no engañes con tus labios.
Do not speak against your neighbor without a reason, and do not lie with your lips.
29 N o digas: Como él me ha hecho, así le haré; pagaré al hombre según su obra.
Do not say, “I will do to him as he has done to me. I will pay the man for what he has done.”
30 H e pasado junto al campo del perezoso, y junto a la viña del hombre falto de entendimiento,
I passed by the field of the lazy man, by the grape-vines of the man without understanding.
31 y he aquí, estaba todo lleno de cardos, su superficie cubierta de ortigas, y su cerca de piedras, derribada.
And see, it was all grown over with thorns. The ground was covered with weeds, and its stone wall was broken down.
32 C uando lo vi, reflexioné sobre ello; miré, y recibí instrucción.

33 U n poco de dormir, un poco de dormitar, un poco de cruzar las manos para descansar,
“A little sleep, a little rest, a little folding of the hands to rest,”
34 y llegará tu pobreza como ladrón, y tu necesidad como hombre armado.
and your being poor will come as a robber, and your need like a man ready to fight.
