1 Y aconteció al tercer día que Ester se vistió con sus vestiduras reales y se puso en el atrio interior del palacio del rey delante de los aposentos del rey, y el rey estaba sentado en su trono real en el aposento del trono, frente a la entrada del palacio.

On the third day Esther put on her queen’s clothing and stood in the open space inside the king’s special house in front of his throne room. The king was sitting on his throne in the throne room looking toward the door of his house.

2 Y cuando el rey vio a la reina Ester de pie en el atrio, ella obtuvo gracia ante sus ojos; y el rey extendió hacia Ester el cetro de oro que estaba en su mano. Ester entonces se acercó y tocó el extremo del cetro.

When the king saw Esther the queen standing in the open space, she found favor in his eyes. The king held his special golden stick in his hand toward Esther. So Esther came near and touched the top of the special stick.

3 Y el rey le dijo: ¿Qué te preocupa, reina Ester? ¿Y cuál es tu petición? Hasta la mitad del reino se te dará.

Then the king said to her, “What do you want, Queen Esther? What do you ask of me? You would be given even as much as half the nation.”

4 E ster respondió: Si le place al rey, venga hoy el rey con Amán al banquete que le he preparado.

Esther said, “If it please the king, may the king and Haman come today to the special supper I have made ready for him.”

5 E ntonces el rey dijo: Traed pronto a Amán para que hagamos como Ester desea. Y el rey vino con Amán al banquete que Ester había preparado.

Then the king said, “Be quick to bring Haman, that we may do as Esther wants.” So the king and Haman came to the special supper that Esther had made ready.

6 Y mientras bebían el vino en el banquete, el rey dijo a Ester: ¿Cuál es tu petición?, pues te será concedida. ¿Y cuál es tu deseo? Aun hasta la mitad del reino, se te dará.

As they drank their wine at the supper, the king said to Esther, “What is it that you want? For it will be given to you. What do you ask of me? You would be given as much as half the nation.”

7 R espondió Ester, y dijo: Mi petición y mi deseo es:

So Esther answered and said, “This is what I ask of you.

8 s i he hallado gracia ante los ojos del rey, y si le place al rey conceder mi petición y hacer lo que yo pido, que venga el rey con Amán al banquete que yo les prepararé, y mañana haré conforme a la palabra del rey.

If I have found favor in the king’s eyes, and if it please the king to give me what I ask of him, may the king and Haman come to the special supper that I will make ready for them. And tomorrow I will tell you what I want.”

9 S alió Amán aquel día alegre y con corazón contento; pero cuando Amán vio a Mardoqueo en la puerta del rey y que éste no se levantaba ni temblaba delante de él, Amán se llenó de furor contra Mardoqueo.

Then Haman went out that day glad and with joy in his heart. But when he saw Mordecai at the king’s gate, and when he did not stand up or show any fear in front of him, Haman was filled with anger against Mordecai.

10 A mán, sin embargo, se contuvo, fue a su casa, y mandó traer a sus amigos y a su mujer Zeres.

But Haman kept himself from doing anything at that time, and went home. There he sent for his friends and his wife Zeresh.

11 E ntonces Amán les contó la gloria de sus riquezas, la multitud de sus hijos, y todas las ocasiones en que el rey le había engrandecido, y cómo le había exaltado sobre los príncipes y siervos del rey.

Haman told them about the greatness of his riches and the number of his sons. He told them how the king had raised him to a place of honor, and how he had made him more important than the princes and the king’s servants.

12 Y Amán añadió: Aun la reina Ester no permitió que nadie, excepto yo, viniera con el rey al banquete que ella había preparado; y también para mañana estoy invitado por ella junto con el rey.

Haman said, “Even Queen Esther let no one but me come with the king to the special supper that she had made ready. She has asked me to come with the king tomorrow also.

13 S in embargo nada de esto me satisface mientras vea al judío Mardoqueo sentado a la puerta del rey.

Yet all of this is not enough to please me every time I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king’s gate.”

14 S u mujer Zeres y todos sus amigos le dijeron: Haz que se prepare una horca de cincuenta codos de alto, y por la mañana pide al rey que ahorquen a Mardoqueo en ella; entonces ve gozoso con el rey al banquete. Y el consejo agradó a Amán, e hizo preparar la horca.

Then Zeresh his wife and all his friends said to him, “Have a tower made ready for hanging him. Let it be thirteen times taller than a man. And in the morning ask the king to have Mordecai hanged on it. Then go with joy to the special supper with the king.” These words pleased Haman, so he had the tower built.
