1 C uando David pasó un poco más allá de la cumbre, he aquí que Siba, el criado de Mefiboset, salió a su encuentro con un par de asnos aparejados, y sobre ellos había doscientos panes, cien racimos de uvas pasas, cien frutas de verano y un odre de vino.

When David had gone a short way past the mountain top, Mephibosheth’s servant Ziba met him with two donkeys ready for traveling. On them were 200 loaves of bread, 100 vines of dried grapes, 100 summer fruits, and a bottle of wine.

2 Y el rey dijo a Siba: ¿Para qué tienes esto? Y Siba respondió: Los asnos son para que la familia del rey monte, y el pan y la fruta de verano para que los jóvenes coman, y el vino para que beba cualquiera que se fatigue en el desierto.

The king said to Ziba, “Why do you have these?” And Ziba said, “The donkeys are for those of the king’s house to travel on. The bread and summer fruit are for the young men to eat. And the wine drink is for whoever is weak in the desert.”

3 E ntonces el rey dijo: ¿Y dónde está el hijo de tu señor ? Y Siba respondió al rey: He aquí, está en Jerusalén, pues ha dicho: “Hoy la casa de Israel me devolverá el reino de mi padre.”

Then the king said, “Where is your owner’s son?” And Ziba answered, “He is staying in Jerusalem. For he said, ‘Today the family of Israel will return to me the nation of my father.’”

4 Y el rey dijo a Siba: He aquí, todo lo que pertenece a Mefiboset es tuyo. Y Siba dijo: Me inclino; que halle yo gracia ante tus ojos, oh rey, mi señor.

So the king said to Ziba, “See, all that belongs to Mephibosheth is yours.” And Ziba said, “I bow down in honor to you. O my lord the king, let me find favor in your eyes!” David and Shimei

5 A l llegar el rey David a Bahurim, he aquí, salió de allí un hombre de la familia de la casa de Saúl que se llamaba Simei, hijo de Gera. Cuando salió, iba maldiciendo;

When King David came to Bahurim, there came out a man of the family of Saul. His name was Shimei, the son of Gera. He did not stop speaking bad things as he came.

6 y tiraba piedras a David y a todos los siervos del rey David, aunque todo el pueblo y todos los hombres valientes estaban a su derecha y a su izquierda.

He threw stones at David, and at all the servants of King David. And all the people and all the strong men were at his right and at his left.

7 A sí decía Simei mientras maldecía: ¡Fuera, fuera, hombre sanguinario e indigno!

Shimei said as he said bad things, “Get out! Get out, you man of blood, you man of no worth!

8 E l Señor ha hecho volver sobre ti toda la sangre derramada de la casa de Saúl, en cuyo lugar has reinado; el Señor ha entregado el reino en mano de tu hijo Absalón. He aquí, estás prendido en tu propia maldad, porque eres hombre sanguinario.

The Lord has punished you for all the blood of the family of Saul, in whose place you have ruled! The Lord has given the nation to your son Absalom! Your trouble is upon you, because you are a man of blood!”

9 E ntonces Abisai, hijo de Sarvia, dijo al rey: ¿Por qué ha de maldecir este perro muerto a mi señor el rey ? Déjame que vaya ahora y le corte la cabeza.

Zeruiah’s son Abishai said to the king, “Why should this dead dog speak against my lord the king? Let me go now and cut off his head.”

10 P ero el rey dijo: ¿Qué tengo yo que ver con vosotros, hijos de Sarvia? Si él maldice, y si el Señor le ha dicho: “Maldice a David”, ¿quién, pues, le dirá: “¿Por qué has hecho esto ?”

But the king said, “What have I to do with you, O sons of Zeruiah? If he speaks against me, and if the Lord has told him, ‘Speak against David,’ then who should say, ‘Why have you done so?’”

11 Y David dijo a Abisai y a todos sus siervos: He aquí, mi hijo que salió de mis entrañas busca mi vida; ¿cuánto más entonces este benjamita? Dejadlo, que siga maldiciendo, porque el Señor se lo ha dicho.

Then David said to Abishai and all his servants, “See, my own son wants to kill me. How much more now may this Benjamite? Let him alone and let him speak against me, for the Lord has told him.

12 Q uizá el Señor mire mi aflicción y me devuelva bien por su maldición de hoy.

It may be that the Lord will look upon my trouble and return good to me instead of his bad words today.”

13 A sí pues, David y sus hombres siguieron su camino; y Simei iba por el lado del monte paralelo a él, y mientras iba lo maldecía, le tiraba piedras y le arrojaba polvo.

So David and his men went on the way. And Shimei went beside him on the hill. He spoke against David as he went, and threw stones and dust at him.

14 Y el rey y todo el pueblo que iba con él llegaron al Jordán fatigados, y allí descansaron.

The king and all the people with him were tired when they came to the Jordan. There he rested and received new strength. Absalom Goes to Jerusalem

15 E ntonces Absalón y todo el pueblo, los hombres de Israel, entraron en Jerusalén, y Ahitofel con él.

Absalom and all the people, the men of Israel, came into Jerusalem. And Ahithophel was with him.

16 S ucedió que cuando Husai arquita, amigo de David, vino a Absalón, Husai dijo a Absalón: ¡Viva el rey! ¡Viva el rey!

When David’s friend Hushai the Archite came to Absalom, Hushai said to him, “Long live the king! Long live the king!”

17 Y Absalón dijo a Husai: ¿Es esta tu lealtad para con tu amigo? ¿Por qué no fuiste con tu amigo ?

And Absalom said to Hushai, “Is this your kindness to your friend? Why did you not go with your friend?”

18 R espondió Husai a Absalón: No, pues a quien el Señor, este pueblo y todos los hombres de Israel han escogido, de él seré, y con él me quedaré.

Hushai said to Absalom, “No! I will belong to whoever is chosen by the Lord, this people, and all the men of Israel.

19 A demás, ¿a quién debería yo servir? ¿No habría de ser en la presencia de su hijo? Tal como he servido delante de tu padre, así seré delante de ti.

And whom should I serve? Should I not serve his son? As I have served your father, so I will serve you.”

20 E ntonces Absalón dijo a Ahitofel: Dad vuestro consejo. ¿Qué debemos hacer?

Then Absalom said to Ahithophel, “Give your wise words. What should we do?”

21 Y Ahitofel respondió a Absalón: Llégate a las concubinas de tu padre, a quienes él ha dejado para guardar la casa; entonces todo Israel sabrá que te has hecho odioso a tu padre, y las manos de todos los que están contigo se fortalecerán.

Ahithophel answered, “Go in to your father’s women, whom he has left to take care of the house. Then all Israel will hear that you have made yourself hated by your father. Then the hands of all who are with you will be made stronger.”

22 L evantaron, pues, para Absalón una tienda en el terrado, y Absalón se llegó a las concubinas de su padre a la vista de todo Israel.

So they set up a tent for Absalom on the roof. And Absalom went in to his father’s women so that the eyes of all Israel could see.

23 E l consejo que Ahitofel daba en aquellos días era como si uno consultara la palabra de Dios; así era considerado todo consejo de Ahitofel tanto por David como por Absalón.

The words that Ahithophel spoke in those days were as if one had asked for the Word of God. Both David and Absalom thought of Ahithophel’s words in this way.
