1 Y aconteció que al cabo de dos años, Faraón tuvo un sueño; y he aquí, soñó que estaba de pie junto al Nilo.

After two years had passed, Pharaoh had a dream. He dreamed that he was standing by the Nile River.

2 Y de pronto, del Nilo subieron siete vacas de hermoso aspecto y gordas, y pacían en el carrizal.

And he saw seven cows coming out of the Nile. They were good-looking and fat, and they ate the grass beside the river.

3 P ero he aquí, otras siete vacas de mal aspecto y flacas subieron del Nilo detrás de ellas, y se pararon junto a las otras vacas a la orilla del Nilo;

Then he saw seven other cows coming out of the Nile after them. They looked bad and were thin. They stood by the other cows beside the Nile.

4 y las vacas de mal aspecto y flacas devoraron las siete vacas de hermoso aspecto y gordas. Entonces Faraón despertó.

Then the bad looking cows that were thin ate the seven good-looking, fat cows, and Pharaoh awoke.

5 S e quedó dormido y soñó por segunda vez; y he aquí que siete espigas llenas y buenas crecían en una sola caña.

Then he fell asleep and dreamed a second time. He saw seven heads of grain growing on one stick of grain. They were large and full.

6 Y he aquí que siete espigas, menudas y quemadas por el viento solano, brotaron después de aquéllas.

Then he saw seven heads of grain come after them, which were small and made dry by the east wind.

7 Y las espigas menudas devoraron a las siete espigas gruesas y llenas. Entonces Faraón despertó, y he aquí, era un sueño.

And the small heads of grain ate the seven large, full heads of grain. Then Pharaoh awoke and saw that it was a dream.

8 Y sucedió que por la mañana su espíritu estaba turbado, y mandó llamar a todos los adivinos de Egipto, y a todos sus sabios. Y Faraón les contó sus sueños, pero no hubo quien se los pudiera interpretar a Faraón.

So when morning came his spirit was troubled. He called for all the wise men of Egypt. Pharaoh told them his dreams. But there was no one who could tell Pharaoh the meaning of them.

9 E ntonces el jefe de los coperos habló a Faraón, diciendo: Quisiera hablar hoy de mis faltas.

Then the head cup-carrier said to Pharaoh, “I remember today what I have done wrong.

10 C uando Faraón se enojó con sus siervos y me puso bajo custodia en la casa del capitán de la guardia, a mí y al jefe de los panaderos,

Pharaoh was angry with his servants. And he put me and the head bread-maker in prison in the house of the head of the soldiers.

11 é l y yo tuvimos un sueño en una misma noche; cada uno de nosotros soñó según la interpretación de su propio sueño.

He and I had a dream on the same night. Each dream had its own meaning.

12 Y estaba allí con nosotros un joven hebreo, un siervo del capitán de la guardia; y se los contamos, y él nos interpretó los sueños. A cada uno interpretó su sueño.

A young Hebrew was there with us. He worked for the head of the soldiers. We told our dreams to him. And he told us the meaning of them. He told each of us what our different dreams meant.

13 Y aconteció que tal como nos lo había interpretado, así sucedió; a mí me restableció Faraón en mi puesto, pero al otro lo ahorcó. José interpreta el sueño de Faraón

And it happened just like he had said it would. I was returned to my place of work. The bread-maker was killed on a tree.”

14 E ntonces Faraón mandó llamar a José, y lo sacaron aprisa del calabozo; y después de afeitarse y cambiarse sus vestidos, vino a Faraón.

Pharaoh then called for Joseph. And they brought him out of the prison in a hurry. He cut off the hair on his face and put on clean clothes. Then he came to Pharaoh.

15 Y Faraón dijo a José: He tenido un sueño y no hay quien lo interprete; y he oído decir de ti, que oyes un sueño y lo puedes interpretar.

Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I have had a dream. But no one can tell me what it means. I have heard it said that you are able to hear a dream and tell what it means.”

16 J osé respondió a Faraón, diciendo: No está en mí; Dios dará a Faraón una respuesta favorable.

Joseph answered Pharaoh, “Not by myself. God will give Pharaoh a good answer.”

17 E ntonces habló Faraón a José: En mi sueño, he aquí, yo estaba de pie a la orilla del Nilo.

So Pharaoh said to Joseph, “In my dream, I was standing beside the Nile.

18 Y vi siete vacas gordas y de hermoso aspecto que salieron del Nilo; y pacían en el carrizal.

I saw seven cows coming out of the Nile. They were fat and good-looking, and they ate the grass beside the river.

19 P ero he aquí, otras siete vacas subieron detrás de ellas, pobres, de muy mal aspecto y flacas, de tal fealdad como yo nunca había visto en toda la tierra de Egipto.

Then I saw seven other cows coming after them. They looked bad and were thin. I had never seen worse cows in all the land of Egypt.

20 Y las vacas flacas y feas devoraron las primeras siete vacas gordas.

Then the bad looking cows that were thin ate the first seven fat cows.

21 P ero cuando las habían devorado, no se podía notar que las hubieran devorado; pues su aspecto era tan feo como al principio. Entonces me desperté.

But after they had eaten them, it could not be seen that they had eaten them. For they were just as bad looking as before. Then I awoke.

22 Y he aquí, en mi sueño también vi que siete espigas llenas y buenas crecían en una sola caña.

I saw also in my dream seven heads of grain growing on one stick of grain. They were large and full.

23 Y he aquí que siete espigas marchitas, menudas y quemadas por el viento solano, brotaron después de aquéllas;

Then I saw seven heads of grain come after them. They were small and were dry because of the east wind.

24 y las espigas menudas devoraron a las siete espigas buenas. Y se lo conté a los adivinos, pero no hubo quien me lo pudiera explicar.

The small heads of grain ate the seven good heads of grain. Then I told it to the wise men. But there was no one who could tell me what it means.”

25 E ntonces José dijo a Faraón: Los dos sueños de Faraón son uno; Dios ha anunciado a Faraón lo que El va a hacer.

Joseph said to Pharaoh, “Pharaoh’s dreams are one and the same. God has shown Pharaoh what He is about to do.

26 L as siete vacas buenas son siete años, y las siete espigas buenas son siete años; los dos sueños son uno.

The seven good cows are seven years. And the seven good heads of grain are seven years. The dreams are one and the same.

27 Y las siete vacas flacas y feas que subieron detrás de ellas son siete años, y las siete espigas quemadas por el viento solano serán siete años de hambre.

The seven bad looking cows that are thin that came up after them are seven years. And the seven small heads of grain made dry by the east wind mean seven years without food.

28 E sto es lo que he dicho a Faraón: Dios ha mostrado a Faraón lo que va a hacer.

It is as I have said to Pharaoh. God has shown Pharaoh what He is about to do.

29 H e aquí, vienen siete años de gran abundancia en toda la tierra de Egipto;

Seven years are coming when there will be much food in all the land of Egypt.

30 y después de ellos vendrán siete años de hambre, y será olvidada toda la abundancia en la tierra de Egipto; y el hambre asolará la tierra.

But after them will come seven years when there will be no food. The time of much food will be forgotten in the land of Egypt. The time of no food will destroy the land.

31 Y no se conocerá la abundancia en la tierra a causa del hambre que vendrá, que será muy severa.

The time without food will be so hard that no one in the land will remember when they had much.

32 Y en cuanto a la repetición del sueño a Faraón dos veces, quiere decir que el asunto está determinado por Dios, y Dios lo hará pronto.

That the dream was sent twice to Pharaoh shows that what will happen is planned by God. And God will make it happen soon.

33 A hora pues, busque Faraón un hombre prudente y sabio, y póngalo sobre la tierra de Egipto.

“So now let Pharaoh look for a man who is understanding and wise. Let the land of Egypt be put into his care.

34 H aga esto Faraón: nombre intendentes sobre el país y exija un quinto de la producción de la tierra de Egipto en los siete años de abundancia.

Let Pharaoh take action to choose men to watch over the land. And let him take a fifth part of the food of the land of Egypt during the seven years of much food.

35 Y que ellos recojan todos los víveres de esos años buenos que vienen, y almacenen en las ciudades el grano para alimento bajo la autoridad de Faraón, y que lo protejan.

Let them gather all the food of these good years that are coming. Have them store the grain under the power of Pharaoh, to be used as food in the cities. And let them keep it safe.

36 Y que los víveres sean una reserva para el país durante los siete años de hambre que ocurrirán en la tierra de Egipto, a fin de que el país no perezca durante el hambre. José gobernador de todo Egipto

This food will be kept for the people to eat during the seven years of no food that will come upon the land of Egypt. This way the land will not be destroyed during the time without food.” Joseph Made Ruler over Egypt

37 Y la idea pareció bien a Faraón y a todos sus siervos.

The plan pleased Pharaoh and all his servants.

38 E ntonces Faraón dijo a sus siervos: ¿Podemos hallar un hombre como éste, en quien esté el espíritu de Dios ?

Then Pharaoh said to his servants, “Can we find a man like this, who has in him the Spirit of God?”

39 Y Faraón dijo a José: Puesto que Dios te ha hecho saber todo esto, no hay nadie tan prudente ni tan sabio como tú.

So Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Because God has shown you all this, there is no one as understanding and wise as you are.

40 T ú estarás sobre mi casa, y todo mi pueblo obedecerá tus órdenes; solamente en el trono yo seré mayor que tú.

My house will be put in your care. And all my people will do as you say. Only on the throne will I be greater than you.”

41 F araón dijo también a José: Mira, te he puesto sobre toda la tierra de Egipto.

Pharaoh said to Joseph, “See, I have put you in power over all the land of Egypt.”

42 Y Faraón se quitó el anillo de sellar de su mano y lo puso en la mano de José; y lo vistió con vestiduras de lino fino y puso un collar de oro en su cuello.

Then Pharaoh took the ring from his hand, and put it on Joseph’s hand. He dressed him in clothes of fine cloth. He put a gold chain around his neck.

43 L o hizo montar en su segundo carro, y proclamaron delante de él: ¡Doblad la rodilla! Y lo puso sobre toda la tierra de Egipto.

He had him travel in his second wagon of honor. And they called out in front of him, “Bow down!” Pharaoh put him in power over all the land of Egypt.

44 E ntonces Faraón dijo a José: Aunque yo soy Faraón, sin embargo, nadie levantará su mano ni su pie sin tu permiso en toda la tierra de Egipto.

Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I am Pharaoh. But unless it is your will, no one will raise his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.”

45 Y Faraón llamó a José por el nombre de Zafnat-panea, y le dio por mujer a Asenat, hija de Potifera, sacerdote de On. Y salió José por toda la tierra de Egipto.

Then Pharaoh gave Joseph the name of Zaphenath-paneah. He gave him for a wife Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera who was the religious leader of On. So Joseph went out through the land of Egypt.

46 J osé tenía treinta años cuando se presentó ante Faraón, rey de Egipto. Y salió José de la presencia de Faraón y recorrió toda la tierra de Egipto.

Joseph was thirty years old when he stood in front of Pharaoh, king of Egypt. And Joseph went from Pharaoh to visit every part of Egypt.

47 Y produjo la tierra a manos llenas durante los siete años de abundancia.

During the seven good years the land brought much food.

48 Y él recogió todo el fruto de estos siete años de abundancia que hubo en la tierra de Egipto, y guardó el alimento en las ciudades; y guardó en cada ciudad el fruto de sus campos circunvecinos.

So he gathered into the cities all the food of these seven years when there was much in the land of Egypt. He put into each city the food from the fields around it.

49 A sí José almacenó grano en gran abundancia, como la arena del mar, hasta que dejó de medir lo porque no se podía medir.

Joseph gathered as much grain as the sand of the sea. The time came when he stopped trying to know how much there was. Joseph’s Two Sons

50 Y le nacieron a José dos hijos antes de que llegaran los años de hambre, los que le dio a luz Asenat, hija de Potifera, sacerdote de On.

Two sons were born to Joseph before the years without food came. Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera, the religious leader of On, gave birth to them.

51 Y al primogénito José le puso el nombre de Manasés, porque dijo: Dios me ha hecho olvidar todo mi trabajo y toda la casa de mi padre.

Joseph gave the first-born the name Manasseh. “For,” he said, “God has made me forget all my trouble and all those of my father’s house.”

52 Y al segundo le puso el nombre de Efraín, porque dijo: Dios me ha hecho fecundo en la tierra de mi aflicción. Los siete años de hambre

He gave the second son the name of Ephraim. “For,” he said, “God has given me children in the land of my suffering.”

53 C uando pasaron los siete años de abundancia que había habido en la tierra de Egipto,

The seven good years of much food in the land of Egypt came to an end.

54 y comenzaron a venir los siete años de hambre, tal como José había dicho, entonces hubo hambre en todas las tierras; pero en toda la tierra de Egipto había pan.

And the seven bad years of no food began, as Joseph had said. No food was growing in all the lands, but in all the land of Egypt there was food.

55 C uando se sintió el hambre en toda la tierra de Egipto, el pueblo clamó a Faraón por pan; y Faraón dijo a todos los egipcios: Id a José, y haced lo que él os diga.

So when all the people of Egypt were hungry, they cried to Pharaoh for bread. Pharaoh said to all the Egyptians, “Go to Joseph. Do what he tells you.”

56 Y el hambre se extendió sobre toda la faz de la tierra. Entonces José abrió todos los graneros y vendió a los egipcios, pues el hambre era severa en la tierra de Egipto.

When the hunger was spreading over all the earth, Joseph opened the store-houses. And he sold food to the Egyptians for the time without food had become hard in the land of Egypt.

57 Y de todos los países venían a Egipto para comprar grano a José, porque el hambre era severa en toda la tierra.

The people of all the earth came to Egypt to buy grain from Joseph because the time without food was hard everywhere.
