1 P or tanto, cuando el Señor supo que los fariseos habían oído que El hacía y bautizaba más discípulos que Juan

Jesus knew the proud religious law-keepers had heard He was making and baptizing more followers than John.

2 ( aunque Jesús mismo no bautizaba, sino sus discípulos ),

Jesus did not baptize anyone Himself but His followers did.

3 s alió de Judea y partió otra vez para Galilea.

Then Jesus went from the country of Judea to the country of Galilee.

4 Y tenía que pasar por Samaria.

He had to go through the country of Samaria.

5 L legó, pues, a una ciudad de Samaria llamada Sicar, cerca de la parcela de tierra que Jacob dio a su hijo José;

So He came to a town in Samaria called Sycar. It was near the piece of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.

6 y allí estaba el pozo de Jacob. Entonces Jesús, cansado del camino, se sentó junto al pozo. Era como la hora sexta.

Jacob’s well was there. Jesus was tired from traveling so He sat down just as He was by the well. It was about noon.

7 U na mujer de Samaria vino a sacar agua, y Jesús le dijo: Dame de beber.

A woman of Samaria came to get water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.”

8 P ues sus discípulos habían ido a la ciudad a comprar alimentos.

His followers had gone to the town to buy food.

9 E ntonces la mujer samaritana le dijo: ¿Cómo es que tú, siendo judío, me pides de beber a mí, que soy samaritana? (Porque los judíos no tienen tratos con los samaritanos.)

The woman of Samaria said to Him, “You are a Jew. I am of Samaria. Why do You ask me for a drink when the Jews have nothing to do with the people of Samaria?”

10 R espondió Jesús y le dijo: Si tú conocieras el don de Dios, y quién es el que te dice: “Dame de beber”, tú le habrías pedido a El, y El te hubiera dado agua viva.

Jesus said to her, “You do not know what God has to give. You do not know Who said to you, ‘Give Me a drink.’ If you knew, you would have asked Him. He would have given you living water.”

11 E lla le dijo: Señor, no tienes con qué sacarla, y el pozo es hondo; ¿de dónde, pues, tienes esa agua viva ?

The woman said to Him, “Sir, the well is deep. You have nothing to get water with. Where will You get the living water?

12 ¿ Acaso eres tú mayor que nuestro padre Jacob, que nos dio el pozo del cual bebió él mismo, y sus hijos, y sus ganados?

Are You greater than our early father Jacob? He gave us the well. He and his children and his cattle drank from it.” Jesus Tells of the Living Water

13 R espondió Jesús y le dijo: Todo el que beba de esta agua volverá a tener sed,

Jesus said to her, “Whoever drinks this water will be thirsty again.

14 p ero el que beba del agua que yo le daré, no tendrá sed jamás, sino que el agua que yo le daré se convertirá en él en una fuente de agua que brota para vida eterna.

Whoever drinks the water that I will give him will never be thirsty. The water that I will give him will become in him a well of life that lasts forever.”

15 L a mujer le dijo: Señor, dame esa agua, para que no tenga sed ni venga hasta aquí a sacar la.

The woman said, “Sir, give me this water so I will never be thirsty. Then I will not have to come all this way for water.” The True Kind of Worship

16 E l le dijo: Ve, llama a tu marido y ven acá.

Jesus said to her, “Go call your husband and come back.”

17 R espondió la mujer y le dijo: No tengo marido. Jesús le dijo: Bien has dicho: “No tengo marido”,

The woman said, “I have no husband.” Jesus said, “You told the truth when you said, ‘I have no husband.’

18 p orque cinco maridos has tenido, y el que ahora tienes no es tu marido; en eso has dicho la verdad.

You have had five husbands. The one you have now is not your husband. You told the truth.”

19 L a mujer le dijo: Señor, me parece que tú eres profeta.

The woman said to Him, “Sir, I think You are a person Who speaks for God.

20 N uestros padres adoraron en este monte, y vosotros decís que en Jerusalén está el lugar donde se debe adorar.

Our early fathers worshiped on this mountain. You Jews say Jerusalem is the place where men should worship.”

21 J esús le dijo: Mujer, créeme; la hora viene cuando ni en este monte ni en Jerusalén adoraréis al Padre.

Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me. The time is coming when you will not worship the Father on this mountain or in Jerusalem.

22 V osotros adoráis lo que no conocéis; nosotros adoramos lo que conocemos, porque la salvación viene de los judíos.

You people do not know what you worship. We Jews know what we worship. It is through the Jews that men are saved from the punishment of their sins.

23 P ero la hora viene, y ahora es, cuando los verdaderos adoradores adorarán al Padre en espíritu y en verdad; porque ciertamente a los tales el Padre busca que le adoren.

The time is coming, yes, it is here now, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father wants that kind of worshipers.

24 D ios es espíritu, y los que le adoran deben adorarle en espíritu y en verdad.

God is Spirit. Those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.” Jesus Is the One the Jews Are Looking For

25 L a mujer le dijo: Sé que el Mesías viene (el que es llamado Cristo ); cuando El venga nos declarará todo.

The woman said to Him, “I know the Jews are looking for One Who is coming. He is called the Christ. When He comes, He will tell us everything.”

26 J esús le dijo: Yo soy, el que habla contigo.

Jesus said to her, “I am the Christ, the One talking with you!”

27 E n esto llegaron sus discípulos y se admiraron de que hablara con una mujer, pero ninguno le preguntó: ¿Qué tratas de averiguar? o: ¿Por qué hablas con ella?

Right then the followers came back and were surprised and wondered about finding Him talking with a woman. But no one said, “What do You want?” or, “Why are You talking with her?”

28 E ntonces la mujer dejó su cántaro, fue a la ciudad y dijo a los hombres:

The woman left her water jar and went into the town. She said to the men,

29 V enid, ved a un hombre que me ha dicho todo lo que yo he hecho. ¿No será éste el Cristo ?

“Come and see a Man Who told me everything I ever did! Can this be the Christ?”

30 Y salieron de la ciudad e iban a El.

They went out of town and came to Him. Jesus Tells Them of a New Kind of Food

31 M ientras tanto, los discípulos le rogaban, diciendo: Rabí, come.

During this time His followers were saying to Him, “Teacher, eat something.”

32 P ero El les dijo: Yo tengo para comer una comida que vosotros no sabéis.

He said, “I have food to eat that you do not know of.”

33 L os discípulos entonces se decían entre sí: ¿Le habrá traído alguien de comer?

The followers said to each other, “Has someone taken food to Him?”

34 J esús les dijo: Mi comida es hacer la voluntad del que me envió y llevar a cabo su obra.

Jesus said, “My food is to do what God wants Me to do and to finish His work.

35 ¿ No decís vosotros: “Todavía faltan cuatro meses, y después viene la siega”? He aquí, yo os digo: Alzad vuestros ojos y ved los campos que ya están blancos para la siega.

Do you not say, ‘It is four months yet until the time to gather grain’? Listen! I say to you, open your eyes and look at the fields. They are white now and waiting for the grain to be gathered in.

36 Y a el segador recibe salario y recoge fruto para vida eterna, para que el que siembra se regocije juntamente con el que siega.

The one who gathers gets his pay. He gathers fruit that lasts forever. The one who plants and the one who gathers will have joy together.

37 P orque en este caso el dicho es verdadero: “Uno es el que siembra y otro el que siega.”

These words are true, ‘One man plants and another man gathers.’

38 Y o os envié a segar lo que no habéis trabajado; otros han trabajado y vosotros habéis entrado en su labor.

I sent you to gather where you have not planted. Others have planted and you have come along to gather in their fruit.” The People of Samaria Believe in Jesus

39 Y de aquella ciudad, muchos de los samaritanos creyeron en El por la palabra de la mujer que daba testimonio, diciendo: El me dijo todo lo que yo he hecho.

Many people in that town of Samaria believed in Jesus because of what the woman said about Him. She said, “He told me everything I ever did.”

40 D e modo que cuando los samaritanos vinieron a El, le rogaban que se quedara con ellos; y se quedó allí dos días.

So the people of Samaria came to Him. They asked Him to stay with them. Jesus stayed there two days.

41 Y muchos más creyeron por su palabra,

Many more people believed because of what He said.

42 y decían a la mujer: Ya no creemos por lo que tú has dicho, porque nosotros mismos le hemos oído, y sabemos que éste es en verdad el Salvador del mundo.

They said to the woman, “Now we believe! It is no longer because of what you said about Jesus but we have heard Him ourselves. We know, for sure, that He is the Christ, the One Who saves men of this world from the punishment of their sins.” Jesus Goes to Galilee

43 D espués de los dos días, salió de allí para Galilea.

Two days later He went from there and came to the country of Galilee.

44 P orque Jesús mismo dio testimonio de que a un profeta no se le honra en su propia tierra.

Jesus Himself said that no one who speaks for God is respected in his own country.

45 A sí que cuando llegó a Galilea, los galileos le recibieron, pues habían visto todo lo que hizo en Jerusalén durante la fiesta; porque ellos también habían ido a la fiesta. Curación del hijo de un oficial del rey

When He came to Galilee, the people there were glad. They had seen all the things He did in Jerusalem. It was at the time of the special religious gathering to remember how the Jews left Egypt. They had been there also. Jesus Heals the Dying Boy in Capernaum

46 E ntonces vino otra vez a Caná de Galilea, donde había convertido el agua en vino. Y había allí cierto oficial del rey cuyo hijo estaba enfermo en Capernaúm.

Jesus came again to the town of Cana of Galilee where He had made water into wine. A man who worked with the king had a son who was sick in the city of Capernaum.

47 C uando él oyó que Jesús había venido de Judea a Galilea, fue a su encuentro y le suplicaba que bajara y sanara a su hijo, porque estaba al borde de la muerte.

This man went to Jesus. He had heard that Jesus had come from the country of Judea to Galilee. The man asked Jesus if He would go to Capernaum and heal his son who was dying.

48 J esús entonces le dijo: Si no veis señales y prodigios, no creeréis.

Then Jesus said to him, “Unless you see special things and powerful works done, you will not believe.”

49 E l oficial del rey le dijo: Señor, baja antes de que mi hijo muera.

The man said to Him, “Sir, come with me before my son dies.”

50 J esús le dijo: Vete, tu hijo vive. Y el hombre creyó la palabra que Jesús le dijo y se fue.

Jesus said to him, “Go your way. Your son will live.” The man put his trust in what Jesus said and left.

51 Y mientras bajaba, sus siervos le salieron al encuentro y le dijeron que su hijo vivía.

As he was on his way home, his servants met him. They said to him, “Your son is living!”

52 E ntonces les preguntó a qué hora había empezado a mejorar. Y le respondieron: Ayer a la hora séptima se le quitó la fiebre.

He asked them what time his boy began to get well. They said to him, “Yesterday at one o’clock the sickness left.”

53 E l padre entonces se dio cuenta que fue a la hora en que Jesús le dijo: Tu hijo vive. Y creyó él y toda su casa.

The father knew it was the time Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” He and everyone in his house put their trust in Jesus.

54 E sta fue la segunda señal que Jesús hizo cuando fue de Judea a Galilea.

This was the second powerful work that Jesus did after He came from the country of Judea to the country of Galilee.
