1 C omo los repartimientos de las aguas, Así está el corazón del rey en la mano de Jehová; A todo lo que quiere lo inclina.

The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, as are the watercourses; He turns it whichever way He wills.

2 T odo camino del hombre es recto en su propia opinión; Pero Jehová pesa los corazones.

Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs and tries the hearts.

3 H acer justicia y juicio es a Jehová Más agradable que sacrificio.

To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.

4 A ltivez de ojos, y orgullo de corazón, Y pensamiento de impíos, son pecado.

Haughtiness of eyes and a proud heart, even the tillage of the wicked or the lamp to them, are sin.

5 L os pensamientos del diligente ciertamente tienden a la abundancia; Mas todo el que se apresura alocadamente, de cierto va a la pobreza.

The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness, but everyone who is impatient and hasty hastens only to want.

6 A montonar tesoros con lengua mentirosa Es aliento fugaz de aquellos que buscan la muerte.

Securing treasures by a lying tongue is a vapor driven to and fro; those who seek them seek death.

7 L a rapiña de los impíos los destruirá, Por cuanto no quisieron hacer juicio.

The violence of the wicked shall sweep them away, because they refuse to do justice.

8 E l camino del hombre perverso es torcido y extraño; Mas los hechos del limpio son rectos.

The way of the guilty is exceedingly crooked, but as for the pure, his work is right and his conduct is straight.

9 M ejor es vivir en un rincón del terrado Que con mujer rencillosa en casa espaciosa.

It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop than in a house shared with a nagging, quarrelsome, and faultfinding woman.

10 E l alma del impío desea el mal; Su prójimo no halla favor en sus ojos.

The soul or life of the wicked craves and seeks evil; his neighbor finds no favor in his eyes.

11 C uando el escarnecedor es castigado, el simple se hace sabio; Y cuando se le amonesta al sabio, aprende ciencia.

When the scoffer is punished, the fool gets a lesson in being wise; but men of Wisdom and good sense learn by being instructed.

12 C onsidera el justo la casa del impío, Cómo los impíos son trastornados por el mal.

The righteous man considers well the house of the wicked—how the wicked are cast down to ruin.

13 E l que cierra su oído al clamor del pobre, También él clamará, y no será oído.

Whoever stops his ears at the cry of the poor will cry out himself and not be heard.

14 L a dádiva en secreto calma el furor, Y el don en el seno, la fuerte ira.

A gift in secret pacifies and turns away anger, and a bribe in the lap, strong wrath.

15 A legría es para el justo el hacer juicio; Mas destrucción a los que hacen iniquidad.

When justice is done, it is a joy to the righteous (the upright, in right standing with God), but to the evildoers it is dismay, calamity, and ruin.

16 E l hombre que se aparta del camino de la sabiduría Vendrá a parar en la compañía de los muertos.

A man who wanders out of the way of understanding shall abide in the congregation of the spirits (of the dead).

17 H ombre necesitado será el que ama el deleite, Y el que ama el vino y los ung: uentos no se enriquecerá.

He who loves pleasure will be a poor man; he who loves wine and oil will not be rich.

18 R escate del justo es el impío, Y por los rectos, el prevaricador.

The wicked become a ransom for the righteous, and the treacherous for the upright.

19 M ejor es morar en tierra desierta Que con la mujer rencillosa e iracunda.

It is better to dwell in a desert land than with a contentious woman and with vexation.

20 T esoro precioso y aceite hay en la casa del sabio; Mas el hombre insensato todo lo disipa.

There are precious treasures and oil in the dwelling of the wise, but a self-confident and foolish man swallows it up and wastes it.

21 E l que sigue la justicia y la misericordia Hallará la vida, la justicia y la honra.

He who earnestly seeks after and craves righteousness, mercy, and loving-kindness will find life in addition to righteousness (uprightness and right standing with God) and honor.

22 T omó el sabio la ciudad de los fuertes, Y derribó la fuerza en que ella confiaba.

A wise man scales the city walls of the mighty and brings down the stronghold in which they trust.

23 E l que guarda su boca y su lengua, Su alma guarda de angustias.

He who guards his mouth and his tongue keeps himself from troubles.

24 E scarnecedor es el nombre del soberbio y presuntuoso Que obra en la insolencia de su presunción.

The proud and haughty man—Scoffer is his name—deals and acts with overbearing pride.

25 E l deseo del perezoso le mata, Porque sus manos no quieren trabajar.

The desire of the slothful kills him, for his hands refuse to labor.

26 H ay quien todo el día codicia; Pero el justo da, y no detiene su mano.

He covets greedily all the day long, but the righteous gives and does not withhold.

27 E l sacrificio de los impíos es abominación;!! Cuánto más ofreciéndolo con maldad!

The sacrifice of the wicked is exceedingly disgusting and abhorrent —how much more when he brings it with evil intention?

28 E l testigo mentiroso perecerá; Mas el hombre que oye, permanecerá en su dicho.

A false witness will perish, but the word of a man who hears attentively will endure and go unchallenged.

29 E l hombre impío endurece su rostro; Mas el recto ordena sus caminos.

A wicked man puts on the bold, unfeeling face, but as for the upright, he considers, directs, and establishes his way.

30 N o hay sabiduría, ni inteligencia, Ni consejo, contra Jehová.

There is no wisdom or understanding or counsel against the Lord.

31 E l caballo se alista para el día de la batalla; Mas Jehová es el que da la victoria.

The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but deliverance and victory are of the Lord.
