1 V inieron a mí algunos de los ancianos de Israel, y se sentaron delante de mí.

Then came certain of the elders of Israel to me and sat before me.

2 Y vino a mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo:

And the word of the Lord came to me:

3 H ijo de hombre, estos hombres han puesto sus ídolos en su corazón, y han establecido el tropiezo de su maldad delante de su rostro. ¿Acaso he de ser yo en modo alguno consultado por ellos?

Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their hearts and put the stumbling block of their iniquity and guilt before their faces; should I permit Myself to be inquired of at all by them?

4 H áblales, por tanto, y diles: Así ha dicho Jehová el Señor: Cualquier hombre de la casa de Israel que hubiere puesto sus ídolos en su corazón, y establecido el tropiezo de su maldad delante de su rostro, y viniere al profeta, yo Jehová responderé al que viniere conforme a la multitud de sus ídolos,

Therefore speak to them and say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Every man of the house of Israel who takes his idols into his heart and puts the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, and yet comes to the prophet, I the Lord will answer him, answer him according to the multitude of his idols,

5 p ara tomar a la casa de Israel por el corazón, ya que se han apartado de mí todos ellos por sus ídolos.

That I may lay hold of the house of Israel in the thoughts of their own mind and heart, because they are all estranged from Me through their idols.

6 P or tanto, di a la casa de Israel: Así dice Jehová el Señor: Convertíos, y volveos de vuestros ídolos, y apartad vuestro rostro de todas vuestras abominaciones.

Therefore say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord God: Repent and turn away from your idols, and turn away your faces from all your abominations.

7 P orque cualquier hombre de la casa de Israel, y de los extranjeros que moran en Israel, que se hubiere apartado de andar en pos de mí, y hubiere puesto sus ídolos en su corazón, y establecido delante de su rostro el tropiezo de su maldad, y viniere al profeta para preguntarle por mí, yo Jehová le responderé por mí mismo;

For anyone of the house of Israel or of the strangers who sojourn in Israel who separates himself from Me, taking his idols into his heart and putting the stumbling block of his iniquity and guilt before his face, and comes to the prophet to inquire for himself of Me, I the Lord will answer him Myself!

8 y pondré mi rostro contra aquel hombre, y le pondré por señal y por escarmiento, y lo cortaré de en medio de mi pueblo; y sabréis que yo soy Jehová.

And I will set My face against that and will make him a sign and a byword, and I will cut him off from the midst of My people; and you shall know (understand and realize) that I am the Lord.

9 Y cuando el profeta fuere engañado y hablare palabra, yo Jehová engañé al tal profeta; y extenderé mi mano contra él, y lo destruiré de en medio de mi pueblo Israel.

but if the prophet does give the man the answer he desires, I the Lord will see to it that the prophet is deceived in his answer, and I will stretch out My hand against him and will destroy him from the midst of My people Israel.

10 Y llevarán ambos el castigo de su maldad; como la maldad del que consultare, así será la maldad del profeta,

And they both shall bear the punishment of their iniquity: the iniquity of the prophet shall be the same as the iniquity of the inquirer,

11 p ara que la casa de Israel no se desvíe más de en pos de mí, ni se contamine más en todas sus rebeliones; y me sean por pueblo, y yo les sea por Dios, dice Jehová el Señor. Justicia del castigo de Jerusalén

That the house of Israel may go no more astray from Me, neither defile themselves any more with all their transgressions, but that they may be My people, and I may be their God, says the Lord God.

12 V ino a mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo:

The word of the Lord came to me, saying,

13 H ijo de hombre, cuando la tierra pecare contra mí rebelándose pérfidamente, y extendiere yo mi mano sobre ella, y le quebrantare el sustento del pan, y enviare en ella hambre, y cortare de ella hombres y bestias,

Son of man, when a land sins against Me by committing a trespass, and I stretch out My hand against it and break its staff of bread and send famine upon it and cut off from it man and beast,

14 s i estuviesen en medio de ella estos tres varones, Noé, Daniel y Job, ellos por su justicia librarían únicamente sus propias vidas, dice Jehová el Señor.

Even if these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, they would save but their own lives by their righteousness (their uprightness and right standing with Me), says the Lord God.

15 Y si hiciere pasar bestias feroces por la tierra y la asolaren, y quedare desolada de modo que no haya quien pase a causa de las fieras,

If I cause ferocious and evil wild animals to pass through the land and they ravage and bereave it, and it becomes desolate so that no man may pass through because of the beasts;

16 y estos tres varones estuviesen en medio de ella, vivo yo, dice Jehová el Señor, ni a sus hijos ni a sus hijas librarían; ellos solos serían librados, y la tierra quedaría desolada.

Though these three men were in it, as I live, says the Lord God, they would deliver neither sons nor daughters; they themselves alone would be delivered but the land would be desolate (laid waste and deserted).

17 O si yo trajere espada sobre la tierra, y dijere: Espada, pasa por la tierra; e hiciere cortar de ella hombres y bestias,

Or if I bring a sword upon that land and say, Sword, go through the land, so that I cut off man and beast from it,

18 y estos tres varones estuviesen en medio de ella, vivo yo, dice Jehová el Señor, no librarían a sus hijos ni a sus hijas; ellos solos serían librados.

Though these three men were in it, as I live, says the Lord God, they would deliver neither sons nor daughters, but they themselves alone would be delivered.

19 O si enviare pestilencia sobre esa tierra y derramare mi ira sobre ella en sangre, para cortar de ella hombres y bestias,

Or if I send a pestilence into that land and pour out My wrath upon it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast,

20 y estuviesen en medio de ella Noé, Daniel y Job, vivo yo, dice Jehová el Señor, no librarían a hijo ni a hija; ellos por su justicia librarían solamente sus propias vidas.

Though Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, as I live, says the Lord God, they would deliver neither son nor daughter; they would but deliver their own lives by their righteousness (their moral and spiritual rectitude in every area and relation).

21 P or lo cual así ha dicho Jehová el Señor: ¿Cuánto más cuando yo enviare contra Jerusalén mis cuatro juicios terribles, espada, hambre, fieras y pestilencia, para cortar de ella hombres y bestias?

For thus says the Lord God: How much more when I send My four sore acts of judgment upon Jerusalem—the sword, the famine, the evil wild beasts, and the pestilence—to cut off from it man and beast!

22 S in embargo, he aquí quedará en ella un remanente, hijos e hijas, que serán llevados fuera; he aquí que ellos vendrán a vosotros, y veréis su camino y sus hechos, y seréis consolados del mal que hice venir sobre Jerusalén, de todas las cosas que traje sobre ella.

And yet, behold, in it shall be left a remnant (an escaped portion), both sons and daughters. They shall be carried forth to you, and when you see their walk and their doings, you will be consoled for the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, even concerning all that I have brought upon it.

23 Y os consolarán cuando viereis su camino y sus hechos, y conoceréis que no sin causa hice todo lo que he hecho en ella, dice Jehová el Señor.

And they shall console you when you see their evil ways and their rebellious actions. Then you shall know (understand and realize) that I have not done without cause all that I have done in Jerusalem, says the Lord God.
