1 R espondió entonces Job, diciendo:

Then Job answered,

2 C iertamente vosotros sois el pueblo, Y con vosotros morirá la sabiduría.

No doubt you are the people, and wisdom will die with you!

3 T ambién tengo yo entendimiento como vosotros; No soy yo menos que vosotros; ¿Y quién habrá que no pueda decir otro tanto?

But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you. Who does not know such things as these ?

4 Y o soy uno de quien su amigo se mofa, Que invoca a Dios, y él le responde; Con todo, el justo y perfecto es escarnecido.

I am become one who is a laughingstock to his friend; I, one whom God answered when he called upon Him—a just, upright (blameless) man—laughed to scorn!

5 A quel cuyos pies van a resbalar Es como una lámpara despreciada de aquel que está a sus anchas.

In the thought of him who is at ease there is contempt for misfortune—but it is ready for those whose feet slip.

6 P rosperan las tiendas de los ladrones, Y los que provocan a Dios viven seguros, En cuyas manos él ha puesto cuanto tienen.

The dwellings of robbers prosper; those who provoke God are secure; God supplies them abundantly.

7 Y en efecto, pregunta ahora a las bestias, y ellas te enseñarán; A las aves de los cielos, y ellas te lo mostrarán;

For ask now the animals, and they will teach you; ask the birds of the air, and they will tell you;

8 O habla a la tierra, y ella te enseñará; Los peces del mar te lo declararán también.

Or speak to the earth, and it will teach you; and the fish of the sea will declare to you.

9 ¿ Qué cosa de todas estas no entiende Que la mano de Jehová la hizo?

Who not to recognize in all these that it is God’s hand which does it ?

10 E n su mano está el alma de todo viviente, Y el hálito de todo el género humano.

In His hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind.

11 C iertamente el oído distingue las palabras, Y el paladar gusta las viandas.

Is it not the task of the ear to discriminate between words, just as the mouth distinguishes food?

12 E n los ancianos está la ciencia, Y en la larga edad la inteligencia.

With the aged is wisdom, and with length of days comes understanding.

13 C on Dios está la sabiduría y el poder; Suyo es el consejo y la inteligencia.

But with are wisdom and might; He has counsel and understanding.

14 S i él derriba, no hay quien edifique; Encerrará al hombre, y no habrá quien le abra.

Behold, He tears down, and it cannot be built again; He shuts a man in, and none can open.

15 S i él detiene las aguas, todo se seca; Si las envía, destruyen la tierra.

He withholds the waters, and the land dries up; again, He sends forth, and they overwhelm the land or transform it.

16 C on él está el poder y la sabiduría; Suyo es el que yerra, y el que hace errar.

With Him are might and wisdom; the deceived and the deceiver are His.

17 E l hace andar despojados de consejo a los consejeros, Y entontece a los jueces.

He leads counselors away stripped and barefoot and makes the judges fools.

18 E l rompe las cadenas de los tiranos, Y les ata una soga a sus lomos.

He looses the fetters by kings and has waistcloth bound about their loins.

19 E l lleva despojados a los príncipes, Y trastorna a los poderosos.

He leads away priests as spoil, and men firmly seated He overturns.

20 P riva del habla a los que dicen verdad, Y quita a los ancianos el consejo.

He deprives of speech those who are trusted and takes away the discernment and discretion of the aged.

21 E l derrama menosprecio sobre los príncipes, Y desata el cinto de los fuertes.

He pours contempt on princes and loosens the belt of the strong.

22 E l descubre las profundidades de las tinieblas, Y saca a luz la sombra de muerte.

He uncovers deep things out of darkness and brings into light black gloom and the shadow of death.

23 E l multiplica las naciones, y él las destruye; Esparce a las naciones, y las vuelve a reunir.

He makes nations great, and He destroys them; He enlarges nations, and leads them.

24 E l quita el entendimiento a los jefes del pueblo de la tierra, Y los hace vagar como por un yermo sin camino.

He takes away understanding from the leaders of the people of the land and of the earth, and causes them to wander in a wilderness where there is no path.

25 V an a tientas, como en tinieblas y sin luz, Y los hace errar como borrachos.

They grope in the dark without light, and He makes them to stagger and wander like a drunken man.
