1 A demás Eliú dijo:

Elihu answered (continued his discourse) and said,

2 O íd, sabios, mis palabras; Y vosotros, doctos, estadme atentos.

Hear my words, you wise men, and give ear to me, you who have knowledge.

3 P orque el oído prueba las palabras, Como el paladar gusta lo que uno come.

For the ear tries words as the palate tastes food.

4 E scojamos para nosotros el juicio, Conozcamos entre nosotros cuál sea lo bueno.

Let us choose for ourselves that which is right; let us know among ourselves what is good.

5 P orque Job ha dicho: Yo soy justo, Y Dios me ha quitado mi derecho.

For Job has said, I am righteous, but God has taken away my right;

6 ¿ He de mentir yo contra mi razón? Dolorosa es mi herida sin haber hecho yo transgresión.

Would I lie against my right? Yet, notwithstanding my right, I am counted a liar. My wound is incurable, though I am without transgression.

7 ¿ Qué hombre hay como Job, Que bebe el escarnio como agua,

What man is like Job, who drinks up scoffing and scorning like water,

8 Y va en compañía con los que hacen iniquidad, Y anda con los hombres malos?

Who goes in company with the workers of iniquity and walks with wicked men?

9 P orque ha dicho: De nada servirá al hombre El conformar su voluntad a Dios.

For he has said, It profits a man nothing that he should delight himself with God and consent to Him.

10 P or tanto, varones de inteligencia, oídme: Lejos esté de Dios la impiedad, Y del Omnipotente la iniquidad.

Therefore hear me, you men of understanding. Far be it from God that He should do wickedness, and from the Almighty that He should commit iniquity.

11 P orque él pagará al hombre según su obra, Y le retribuirá conforme a su camino.

For according to the deeds of a man God will proportion his pay, and He will cause every man to find according to his ways.

12 S í, por cierto, Dios no hará injusticia, Y el Omnipotente no pervertirá el derecho.

Truly God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert justice.

13 ¿ Quién visitó por él la tierra? ¿Y quién puso en orden todo el mundo?

Who put in charge over the earth? Or who laid on Him the whole world?

14 S i él pusiese sobre el hombre su corazón, Y recogiese así su espíritu y su aliento,

If should set His heart upon him and withdraw His spirit and His breath to Himself,

15 T oda carne perecería juntamente, Y el hombre volvería al polvo.

All flesh would perish together, and man would turn again to dust.

16 S i, pues, hay en ti entendimiento, oye esto; Escucha la voz de mis palabras.

If now you have understanding, hear this; listen to my words.

17 ¿ Gobernará el que aborrece juicio? ¿Y condenarás tú al que es tan justo?

Is it possible that an enemy of right should govern? And will you condemn Him Who is just and mighty?

18 ¿ Se dirá al rey: Perverso; Y a los príncipes: Impíos?

Who says to a king, You are worthless and vile, or to princes and nobles, You are ungodly and evil?

19 ¿ Cuánto menos a aquel que no hace acepción de personas de príncipes. Ni respeta más al rico que al pobre, Porque todos son obra de sus manos?

is not partial to princes, nor does He regard the rich more than the poor, for they all are the work of His hands.

20 E n un momento morirán, Y a medianoche se alborotarán los pueblos, y pasarán, Y sin mano será quitado el poderoso.

In a moment they die; even at midnight the people are shaken and pass away, and the mighty are taken away by no hand.

21 P orque sus ojos están sobre los caminos del hombre, Y ve todos sus pasos.

For eyes are upon the ways of a man, and He sees all his steps.

22 N o hay tinieblas ni sombra de muerte Donde se escondan los que hacen maldad.

There is no darkness nor thick gloom where the evildoers may hide themselves.

23 N o carga, pues, él al hombre más de lo justo, Para que vaya con Dios a juicio.

sets before man no appointed time, that he should appear before in judgment.

24 E l quebrantará a los fuertes sin indagación, Y hará estar a otros en su lugar.

He breaks in pieces mighty men without inquiry and in ways past finding out and sets others in their stead.

25 P or tanto, él hará notorias las obras de ellos, Cuando los trastorne en la noche, y sean quebrantados.

Therefore He takes knowledge of their works, and He overturns them in the night, so that they are crushed and destroyed.

26 C omo a malos los herirá En lugar donde sean vistos;

God strikes them down as wicked men in the open sight of beholders,

27 P or cuanto así se apartaron de él, Y no consideraron ninguno de sus caminos,

Because they turned aside from Him and would not consider or show regard for any of His ways,

28 H aciendo venir delante de él el clamor del pobre, Y que oiga el clamor de los necesitados.

So that they caused the cry of the poor to come to Him, and He heard the cry of the afflicted.

29 S i él diere reposo, ¿quién inquietará? Si escondiere el rostro, ¿quién lo mirará? Esto sobre una nación, y lo mismo sobre un hombre;

When He gives quietness (peace and security from oppression), who then can condemn? When He hides His face, who then can behold Him, whether it be a nation or a man by himself?—

30 H aciendo que no reine el hombre impío Para vejaciones del pueblo.

That the godless man may not reign, that there be no one to ensnare the people.

31 D e seguro conviene que se diga a Dios: He llevado ya castigo, no ofenderé ya más;

For has anyone said to God, I have borne my chastisement; I will not offend any more;

32 E nséñame tú lo que yo no veo; Si hice mal, no lo haré más.

Teach me what I do not see; if I have done iniquity, I will do it no more?

33 ¿ Ha de ser eso según tu parecer? El te retribuirá, ora rehúses, ora aceptes, y no yo; Di, si no, lo que tú sabes.

Should recompense be as you will it, when you refuse to accept it? For you must do the choosing, and not I; therefore say what is your truthful conclusion.

34 L os hombres inteligentes dirán conmigo, Y el hombre sabio que me oiga:

Men of understanding will tell me, indeed, every wise man who hears me,

35 Q ue Job no habla con sabiduría, Y que sus palabras no son con entendimiento.

That Job speaks without knowledge, and his words are without wisdom and insight.

36 D eseo yo que Job sea probado ampliamente, A causa de sus respuestas semejantes a las de los hombres inicuos.

he be tried to the end because of his answering like wicked men!

37 P orque a su pecado añadió rebeldía; Bate palmas contra nosotros, Y contra Dios multiplica sus palabras.

For he adds rebellion to his unacknowledged sin; he claps his hands among us, and he multiplies his words of accusation against God.
