1 D E más estima es la buena fama que las muchas riquezas; Y la buena gracia más que la plata y el oro.

A name is rather to be chosen than great riches; loving favour rather than silver and gold.

2 E l rico y el pobre se encontraron: A todos ellos hizo Jehová.

The rich and poor meet together; Jehovah is the maker of them all.

3 E l avisado ve el mal, y escóndese: Mas los simples pasan, y reciben el daño.

A prudent seeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.

4 R iquezas, y honra, y vida, Son la remuneración de la humildad y del temor de Jehová.

The reward of humility the fear of Jehovah is riches, and honour, and life.

5 E spinas y lazos hay en el camino del perverso: El que guarda su alma se alejará de ellos.

Thorns snares are in the way of the perverse: he that keepeth his soul holdeth himself far from them.

6 I nstruye al niño en su carrera: Aun cuando fuere viejo no se apartará de ella.

Train up the child according to the tenor of his way, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

7 E l rico se enseñoreará de los pobres; Y el que toma prestado, siervo es del que empresta.

The rich ruleth over the poor; and the borrower is servant to the lender.

8 E l que sembrare iniquidad, iniquidad segará: Y consumiráse la vara de su ira.

He that soweth unrighteousness shall reap iniquity, and the rod of his wrath shall have an end.

9 E l ojo misericordioso será bendito, Porque dió de su pan al indigente.

He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed, for he giveth of his bread to the poor.

10 E cha fuera al escarnecedor, y saldrá la contienda, Y cesará el pleito y la afrenta.

Cast out the scorner, and contention will depart, and strife and ignominy shall cease.

11 E l que ama la limpieza de corazón, Por la gracia de sus labios su amigo será el rey.

He that loveth pureness of heart, upon whose lips is grace, the king is his friend.

12 L os ojos de Jehová miran por la ciencia; Mas él trastorna las cosas de los prevaricadores.

The eyes of Jehovah preserve knowledge; but he overthroweth the words of the unfaithful.

13 D ice el perezoso: El león está fuera; En mitad de las calles seré muerto.

The sluggard saith, There is a lion without, I shall be killed in the streets!

14 S ima profunda es la boca de las extrañas: Aquel contra el cual estuviere Jehová airado, caerá en ella.

The mouth of strange women is a deep ditch: he with whom Jehovah is displeased shall fall therein.

15 L a necedad está ligada en el corazón del muchacho; Mas la vara de la corrección la hará alejar de él.

Folly is bound in the heart of a child; the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

16 E l que oprime al pobre para aumentarse él, Y que da al rico, ciertamente será pobre.

He that oppresseth the poor, it is to enrich him; he that giveth to the rich, only to want.

17 I nclina tu oído, y oye las palabras de los sabios, Y pon tu corazón á mi sabiduría:

Incline thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thy heart unto my knowledge.

18 P orque es cosa deleitable, si las guardares en tus entrañas; Y que juntamente sean ordenadas en tus labios.

For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee: they shall be together fitted on thy lips.

19 P ara que tu confianza sea en Jehová, Te las he hecho saber hoy á ti también.

That thy confidence may be in Jehovah, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.

20 ¿ No te he escrito tres veces En consejos y ciencia,

Have not I written to thee excellent things, in counsels and knowledge,

21 P ara hacerte saber la certidumbre de las razones verdaderas, Para que puedas responder razones de verdad á los que á ti enviaren?

that I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest carry back words of truth to them that send thee?

22 N o robes al pobre, porque es pobre, Ni quebrantes en la puerta al afligido:

Rob not the poor, because he is poor, neither oppress the afflicted in the gate;

23 P orque Jehová juzgará la causa de ellos, Y despojará el alma de aquellos que los despojaren.

for Jehovah will plead their cause, and despoil the soul of those that despoil them.

24 N o te entrometas con el iracundo, Ni te acompañes con el hombre de enojos;

Make no friendship with an angry man, and go not with a furious man;

25 P orque no aprendas sus maneras, Y tomes lazo para tu alma.

lest thou learn his paths, and get a snare to thy soul.

26 N o estés entre los que tocan la mano, Entre los que fían por deudas.

Be not of them that strike hands, of them that are sureties for debts:

27 S i no tuvieres para pagar, ¿Por qué han de quitar tu cama de debajo de ti?

if thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?

28 N o traspases el término antiguo Que pusieron tus padres.

Remove not the ancient landmark which thy fathers have set.

29 ¿ Has visto hombre solícito en su obra? delante de los reyes estará; No estará delante de los de baja suerte.

Hast thou seen a man diligent in his work? He shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before the mean.
