1 A fter this it happened that Absalom provided himself with chariots and horses, and fifty men to run before him.

Aconteció después de esto, que Absalón se hizo de carros, caballos y cincuenta hombres que corrieran delante de él.

2 N ow Absalom would rise early and stand beside the way to the gate. So it was, whenever anyone who had a lawsuit came to the king for a decision, that Absalom would call to him and say, “What city are you from?” And he would say, “Your servant is from such and such a tribe of Israel.”

Se levantaba Absalón de mañana y se ponía a un lado del camino junto a la puerta, y a cualquiera que tenía pleito y venía ante el rey a juicio, Absalón lo llamaba y le decía: «¿De qué ciudad eres?» Él respondía: «Tu siervo es de una de las tribus de Israel.»

3 T hen Absalom would say to him, “Look, your case is good and right; but there is no deputy of the king to hear you.”

Entonces Absalón le decía: «Mira, tus palabras son buenas y justas; pero no tienes quien te oiga de parte del rey.»

4 M oreover Absalom would say, “Oh, that I were made judge in the land, and everyone who has any suit or cause would come to me; then I would give him justice.”

Y añadía Absalón: «¡Quién me pusiera por juez en el país, para que vinieran ante mí todos los que tienen pleito o negocio, y yo les haría justicia!»

5 A nd so it was, whenever anyone came near to bow down to him, that he would put out his hand and take him and kiss him.

Cuando alguno se acercaba para postrarse ante él, le tendía la mano, lo abrazaba y lo besaba.

6 I n this manner Absalom acted toward all Israel who came to the king for judgment. So Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.

De esta manera hacía con todos los israelitas que venían ante el rey a juicio; y así les robaba Absalón el corazón a los de Israel.

7 N ow it came to pass after forty years that Absalom said to the king, “Please, let me go to Hebron and pay the vow which I made to the Lord.

Al cabo de cuatro años, Absalón dijo al rey: —Te ruego que me permitas ir a Hebrón a pagar el voto que he prometido a Jehová.

8 F or your servant took a vow while I dwelt at Geshur in Syria, saying, ‘If the Lord indeed brings me back to Jerusalem, then I will serve the Lord.’”

Porque cuando estaba en Gesur de Siria tu siervo hizo este voto: “Si Jehová me hace volver a Jerusalén, yo serviré a Jehová”.

9 A nd the king said to him, “Go in peace.” So he arose and went to Hebron.

—Ve en paz —le dijo el rey. Se levantó y fue a Hebrón.

10 T hen Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, “As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpet, then you shall say, ‘Absalom reigns in Hebron!’”

Entonces envió Absalón mensajeros por todas las tribus de Israel diciendo: «Cuando oigáis el sonido de la trompeta diréis: “¡Absalón reina en Hebrón!”»

11 A nd with Absalom went two hundred men invited from Jerusalem, and they went along innocently and did not know anything.

Con Absalón fueron doscientos hombres de Jerusalén convidados por él, los cuales iban inocentemente, sin saber nada.

12 T hen Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David’s counselor, from his city—from Giloh—while he offered sacrifices. And the conspiracy grew strong, for the people with Absalom continually increased in number. David Escapes from Jerusalem

Mientras Absalón ofrecía los sacrificios, mandó a buscar en la ciudad de Gilo a Ahitofel, el gilonita, consejero de David. Así la conspiración se fortalecía y aumentaba el pueblo que seguía a Absalón.

13 N ow a messenger came to David, saying, “The hearts of the men of Israel are with Absalom.”

Llegó un mensajero adonde estaba David, diciendo: «El corazón de todo Israel se va tras Absalón.»

14 S o David said to all his servants who were with him at Jerusalem, “Arise, and let us flee, or we shall not escape from Absalom. Make haste to depart, lest he overtake us suddenly and bring disaster upon us, and strike the city with the edge of the sword.”

Entonces David dijo a todos sus siervos que estaban con él en Jerusalén: —Levantaos y huyamos, porque no podremos escapar ante Absalón; daos prisa a partir, no sea que apresurándose él nos alcance, nos cause una desgracia y hiera la ciudad a filo de espada.

15 A nd the king’s servants said to the king, “We are your servants, ready to do whatever my lord the king commands.”

Los siervos del rey le respondieron: —Tus siervos están listos para todo lo que nuestro señor y rey decida.

16 T hen the king went out with all his household after him. But the king left ten women, concubines, to keep the house.

El rey salió entonces, seguido de toda su familia. Y dejó el rey a diez concubinas para que guardaran la casa.

17 A nd the king went out with all the people after him, and stopped at the outskirts.

Salió, pues, el rey con todo el pueblo que le seguía, y se detuvieron en un lugar distante.

18 T hen all his servants passed before him; and all the Cherethites, all the Pelethites, and all the Gittites, six hundred men who had followed him from Gath, passed before the king.

Todos sus siervos estaban a su lado. Todos los cereteos y peleteos, todos los geteos y seiscientos hombres que le habían seguido a pie desde Gat, iban delante del rey.

19 T hen the king said to Ittai the Gittite, “Why are you also going with us? Return and remain with the king. For you are a foreigner and also an exile from your own place.

Y dijo el rey a Itai, el geteo: —¿Para qué vienes tú también con nosotros? Vuelve y quédate con el rey, pues eres extranjero y estás desterrado también de tu lugar.

20 I n fact, you came only yesterday. Should I make you wander up and down with us today, since I go I know not where? Return, and take your brethren back. Mercy and truth be with you.”

Ayer viniste, ¿y voy a obligarte hoy a que andes con nosotros? En cuanto a mí, yo iré a donde pueda ir; tú vuélvete y haz volver a tus hermanos. ¡Que Jehová te muestre amor permanente y fidelidad!

21 B ut Ittai answered the king and said, “ As the Lord lives, and as my lord the king lives, surely in whatever place my lord the king shall be, whether in death or life, even there also your servant will be.”

Itai respondió al rey diciendo: —¡Vive Dios, y vive mi señor, el rey, que para muerte o para vida, donde esté mi señor, el rey, allí estará también tu siervo!

22 S o David said to Ittai, “Go, and cross over.” Then Ittai the Gittite and all his men and all the little ones who were with him crossed over.

Entonces David dijo a Itai: —Ven, pues, y pasa. Itai, el geteo, pasó con todos sus hombres y toda su familia.

23 A nd all the country wept with a loud voice, and all the people crossed over. The king himself also crossed over the Brook Kidron, and all the people crossed over toward the way of the wilderness.

Todo el mundo lloraba a gritos. Pasó toda la gente el torrente Cedrón; luego pasó el rey, y todo el pueblo pasó por el camino que va al desierto.

24 T here was Zadok also, and all the Levites with him, bearing the ark of the covenant of God. And they set down the ark of God, and Abiathar went up until all the people had finished crossing over from the city.

Iban también con él Sadoc y todos los levitas que llevaban el Arca del pacto de Dios; y asentaron el Arca del pacto de Dios. Y subió Abiatar después que todo el pueblo hubo acabado de salir de la ciudad.

25 T hen the king said to Zadok, “Carry the ark of God back into the city. If I find favor in the eyes of the Lord, He will bring me back and show me both it and His dwelling place.

Pero dijo el rey a Sadoc: —Haz volver el Arca de Dios a la ciudad. Si hallo gracia ante los ojos de Jehová, él hará que vuelva y vea el Arca y su Tabernáculo.

26 B ut if He says thus: ‘I have no delight in you,’ here I am, let Him do to me as seems good to Him.”

Y si dice: “No me complazco en ti”, aquí estoy, que haga de mí lo que bien le parezca.

27 T he king also said to Zadok the priest, “ Are you not a seer? Return to the city in peace, and your two sons with you, Ahimaaz your son, and Jonathan the son of Abiathar.

Dijo además el rey al sacerdote Sadoc: —¿No eres tú el vidente? Vuelve en paz a la ciudad y vuelvan con vosotros vuestros dos hijos: Ahimaas, tu hijo, y Jonatán hijo de Abiatar.

28 S ee, I will wait in the plains of the wilderness until word comes from you to inform me.”

Mirad, yo me detendré en los llanos del desierto, hasta que llegue una respuesta de vosotros que me traiga noticias.

29 T herefore Zadok and Abiathar carried the ark of God back to Jerusalem. And they remained there.

Entonces Sadoc y Abiatar devolvieron el Arca de Dios a Jerusalén y se quedaron allá.

30 S o David went up by the Ascent of the Mount of Olives, and wept as he went up; and he had his head covered and went barefoot. And all the people who were with him covered their heads and went up, weeping as they went up.

David subió la cuesta de los Olivos, e iba llorando, con la cabeza cubierta y los pies descalzos. Todo el pueblo que traía consigo cubrió también cada uno su cabeza, e iban llorando mientras subían.

31 T hen someone told David, saying, “Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom.” And David said, “O Lord, I pray, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness!”

Dieron aviso entonces a David diciendo: «Ahitofel está entre los que conspiraron con Absalón.» Y David exclamó: «¡Entorpece ahora, oh Jehová, el consejo de Ahitofel!»

32 N ow it happened when David had come to the top of the mountain, where he worshiped God—there was Hushai the Archite coming to meet him with his robe torn and dust on his head.

Cuando David llegó a la cumbre del monte para adorar allí a Dios, Husai, el arquita, le salió al encuentro, con sus vestidos rasgados y la cabeza cubierta de tierra.

33 D avid said to him, “If you go on with me, then you will become a burden to me.

David le dijo: —Si vienes conmigo, me serás una carga.

34 B ut if you return to the city, and say to Absalom, ‘I will be your servant, O king; as I was your father’s servant previously, so I will now also be your servant,’ then you may defeat the counsel of Ahithophel for me.

Pero si vuelves a la ciudad y dices a Absalón: “Rey, yo seré tu siervo; como hasta aquí he sido siervo de tu padre, así seré ahora siervo tuyo”, entonces podrás desbaratar los planes de Ahitofel.

35 A nd do you not have Zadok and Abiathar the priests with you there? Therefore it will be that whatever you hear from the king’s house, you shall tell to Zadok and Abiathar the priests.

¿No estarán allí contigo los sacerdotes Sadoc y Abiatar? Por tanto, todo lo que oigas en la casa del rey, se lo comunicarás a los sacerdotes Sadoc y Abiatar.

36 I ndeed they have there with them their two sons, Ahimaaz, Zadok’s son, and Jonathan, Abiathar’s son; and by them you shall send me everything you hear.”

Con ellos están sus dos hijos, Ahimaas, el de Sadoc, y Jonatán, el de Abiatar; por medio de ellos me comunicaréis todo los que oigáis.

37 S o Hushai, David’s friend, went into the city. And Absalom came into Jerusalem.

Así fue Husai, amigo de David, a la ciudad; y Absalón entró en Jerusalén.
