1 N ow the king sent them to gather all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem to him.

Entonces el rey mandó convocar ante él a todos los ancianos de Judá y de Jerusalén.

2 T he king went up to the house of the Lord with all the men of Judah, and with him all the inhabitants of Jerusalem—the priests and the prophets and all the people, both small and great. And he read in their hearing all the words of the Book of the Covenant which had been found in the house of the Lord.

Luego el rey subió a la casa de Jehová con todos los hombres de Judá y todos los habitantes de Jerusalén, los sacerdotes, los profetas y todo el pueblo, desde el más pequeño hasta el más grande. Allí leyó en voz alta todas las palabras del libro del pacto que había sido hallado en la casa de Jehová.

3 T hen the king stood by a pillar and made a covenant before the Lord, to follow the Lord and to keep His commandments and His testimonies and His statutes, with all his heart and all his soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people took a stand for the covenant.

Después, puesto en pie junto a la columna, el rey hizo un pacto delante de Jehová, comprometiéndose a que seguirían a Jehová y guardarían sus mandamientos, sus testimonios y sus estatutos, con todo el corazón y con toda el alma, y que cumplirían las palabras del pacto que estaban escritas en aquel libro. Y todo el pueblo confirmó el pacto. Reformas de Josías

4 A nd the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, the priests of the second order, and the doorkeepers, to bring out of the temple of the Lord all the articles that were made for Baal, for Asherah, and for all the host of heaven; and he burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron, and carried their ashes to Bethel.

El rey mandó al sumo sacerdote Hilcías, a los sacerdotes de segundo orden y a los guardianes de la puerta, que sacaran del templo de Jehová todos los utensilios que habían sido hechos para Baal, Asera y todo el ejército de los cielos. Los quemó fuera de Jerusalén, en el campo del Cedrón, e hizo llevar sus cenizas a Bet-el.

5 T hen he removed the idolatrous priests whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense on the high places in the cities of Judah and in the places all around Jerusalem, and those who burned incense to Baal, to the sun, to the moon, to the constellations, and to all the host of heaven.

Después quitó a los sacerdotes idólatras que habían puesto los reyes de Judá para que quemaran incienso en los lugares altos de las ciudades de Judá y en los alrededores de Jerusalén, así como a los que quemaban incienso a Baal, al sol y a la luna, a los signos del zodíaco y a todo el ejército de los cielos.

6 A nd he brought out the wooden image from the house of the Lord, to the Brook Kidron outside Jerusalem, burned it at the Brook Kidron and ground it to ashes, and threw its ashes on the graves of the common people.

Hizo también sacar la imagen de Asera fuera de la casa de Jehová, fuera de Jerusalén, al valle del Cedrón, la quemó en el valle del Cedrón, la convirtió en polvo y echó el polvo sobre los sepulcros de los hijos del pueblo.

7 T hen he tore down the ritual booths of the perverted persons that were in the house of the Lord, where the women wove hangings for the wooden image.

Además derribó los lugares de prostitución idolátrica que estaban en la casa de Jehová, en los cuales tejían las mujeres tiendas para Asera.

8 A nd he brought all the priests from the cities of Judah, and defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba to Beersheba; also he broke down the high places at the gates which were at the entrance of the Gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were to the left of the city gate.

Hizo venir a todos los sacerdotes de las ciudades de Judá y profanó los lugares altos donde los sacerdotes quemaban incienso, desde Geba hasta Beerseba. Derribó los altares de las puertas que estaban a la entrada de la puerta de Josué, gobernador de la ciudad, situados al lado izquierdo de la puerta de la ciudad.

9 N evertheless the priests of the high places did not come up to the altar of the Lord in Jerusalem, but they ate unleavened bread among their brethren.

Pero los sacerdotes de los lugares altos no subían al altar de Jehová en Jerusalén, sino que comían panes sin levadura entre sus hermanos.

10 A nd he defiled Topheth, which is in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, that no man might make his son or his daughter pass through the fire to Molech.

Asimismo profanó el Tofet, que está en el valle del hijo de Hinom, para que ninguno pasara su hijo o su hija por fuego ante Moloc.

11 T hen he removed the horses that the kings of Judah had dedicated to the sun, at the entrance to the house of the Lord, by the chamber of Nathan-Melech, the officer who was in the court; and he burned the chariots of the sun with fire.

Quitó también los caballos que los reyes de Judá habían dedicado al sol a la entrada del templo de Jehová, junto a la habitación de Natán-melec, el eunuco, el cual tenía a su cargo los ejidos, y quemó los carros del sol.

12 T he altars that were on the roof, the upper chamber of Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, and the altars which Manasseh had made in the two courts of the house of the Lord, the king broke down and pulverized there, and threw their dust into the Brook Kidron.

Derribó además el rey los altares que estaban sobre la azotea de la sala de Acaz, construidos por los reyes de Judá, y los altares que había hecho Manasés en los dos atrios de la casa de Jehová. De allí corrió y arrojó el polvo al arroyo Cedrón.

13 T hen the king defiled the high places that were east of Jerusalem, which were on the south of the Mount of Corruption, which Solomon king of Israel had built for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Sidonians, for Chemosh the abomination of the Moabites, and for Milcom the abomination of the people of Ammon.

Asimismo profanó el rey los lugares altos que estaban delante de Jerusalén, a la mano derecha del monte de la destrucción, los cuales Salomón, rey de Israel, había edificado a Astoret, ídolo abominable de los sidonios, a Quemos, ídolo abominable de Moab, y a Milcom, ídolo abominable de los hijos de Amón.

14 A nd he broke in pieces the sacred pillars and cut down the wooden images, and filled their places with the bones of men.

Quebró las estatuas, derribó las imágenes de Asera y llenó el lugar que ocupaban con huesos humanos.

15 M oreover the altar that was at Bethel, and the high place which Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin, had made, both that altar and the high place he broke down; and he burned the high place and crushed it to powder, and burned the wooden image.

También el altar que estaba en Bet-el y el lugar alto que había hecho Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, el que hizo pecar a Israel. Destruyó aquel altar y su lugar alto, lo quemó y lo hizo polvo, y prendió fuego a la imagen de Asera.

16 A s Josiah turned, he saw the tombs that were there on the mountain. And he sent and took the bones out of the tombs and burned them on the altar, and defiled it according to the word of the Lord which the man of God proclaimed, who proclaimed these words.

Cuando regresó Josías y vio los sepulcros que estaban allí en el monte, mandó sacar los huesos de los sepulcros y los quemó sobre el altar para contaminarlo, conforme a la palabra de Jehová que había proclamado el hombre de Dios, el cual había anunciado estas cosas.

17 T hen he said, “What gravestone is this that I see?” So the men of the city told him, “ It is the tomb of the man of God who came from Judah and proclaimed these things which you have done against the altar of Bethel.”

Después dijo: —¿Qué monumento es éste que veo? Los de la ciudad le respondieron: —Éste es el sepulcro del hombre de Dios que vino de Judá y profetizó estas cosas que tú has hecho sobre el altar de Bet-el.

18 A nd he said, “Let him alone; let no one move his bones.” So they let his bones alone, with the bones of the prophet who came from Samaria.

El rey dijo: —Dejadlo; que nadie mueva sus huesos. Así fueron preservados sus huesos y los huesos del profeta que había venido de Samaria.

19 N ow Josiah also took away all the shrines of the high places that were in the cities of Samaria, which the kings of Israel had made to provoke the Lord to anger; and he did to them according to all the deeds he had done in Bethel.

Josías quitó también todos los templos de los lugares altos que estaban en las ciudades de Samaria, los cuales habían hecho los reyes de Israel para provocar a ira, e hizo con ellos como había hecho en Bet-el.

20 H e executed all the priests of the high places who were there, on the altars, and burned men’s bones on them; and he returned to Jerusalem.

Mató además sobre los altares a todos los sacerdotes de los lugares altos que allí estaban y quemó sobre ellos huesos humanos, y volvió a Jerusalén. Josías celebra la Pascua

21 T hen the king commanded all the people, saying, “Keep the Passover to the Lord your God, as it is written in this Book of the Covenant.”

Entonces el rey ordenó a todo el pueblo: «Celebrad la Pascua a Jehová, vuestro Dios, conforme a lo que está escrito en el libro de este pacto.»

22 S uch a Passover surely had never been held since the days of the judges who judged Israel, nor in all the days of the kings of Israel and the kings of Judah.

No había sido celebrada tal Pascua desde los tiempos en que los jueces gobernaban a Israel, ni en todos los tiempos de los reyes de Israel y de los reyes de Judá.

23 B ut in the eighteenth year of King Josiah this Passover was held before the Lord in Jerusalem.

En el año dieciocho del rey Josías se celebró aquella Pascua a Jehová en Jerusalén. Persiste la ira de Jehová contra Judá

24 M oreover Josiah put away those who consulted mediums and spiritists, the household gods and idols, all the abominations that were seen in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, that he might perform the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of the Lord.

Josías barrió asimismo a los encantadores, adivinos y terafines, y todas las cosas abominables que se veían en la tierra de Judá y en Jerusalén, para cumplir las palabras de la Ley que estaban escritas en el libro que el sacerdote Hilcías había hallado en la casa de Jehová.

25 N ow before him there was no king like him, who turned to the Lord with all his heart, with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the Law of Moses; nor after him did any arise like him. Impending Judgment on Judah

No hubo otro rey antes de él que se convirtiera a Jehová con todo su corazón, con toda su alma y con todas sus fuerzas, conforme a toda la ley de Moisés, ni después de él nació otro igual.

26 N evertheless the Lord did not turn from the fierceness of His great wrath, with which His anger was aroused against Judah, because of all the provocations with which Manasseh had provoked Him.

Con todo, Jehová no desistió del ardor de su gran ira, que se había encendido contra Judá por todas las provocaciones con que Manasés lo había irritado.

27 A nd the Lord said, “I will also remove Judah from My sight, as I have removed Israel, and will cast off this city Jerusalem which I have chosen, and the house of which I said, ‘My name shall be there.’” Josiah Dies in Battle

Y Jehová dijo: «También apartaré de mi presencia a Judá, como aparté a Israel, y desecharé a esta ciudad que había escogido, a Jerusalén, y a la casa de la que dije: “Allí estará mi nombre.”» Muerte de Josías

28 N ow the rest of the acts of Josiah, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

Los demás hechos de Josías, y todo lo que hizo, ¿no está todo escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Judá?

29 I n his days Pharaoh Necho king of Egypt went to the aid of the king of Assyria, to the River Euphrates; and King Josiah went against him. And Pharaoh Necho killed him at Megiddo when he confronted him.

En aquellos días el faraón Necao, rey de Egipto, subió hacia el río Éufrates al encuentro del rey de Asiria. Contra él salió el rey Josías; pero en cuanto aquél lo vio, lo mató en Meguido.

30 T hen his servants moved his body in a chariot from Megiddo, brought him to Jerusalem, and buried him in his own tomb. And the people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah, anointed him, and made him king in his father’s place. The Reign and Captivity of Jehoahaz

Sus siervos lo pusieron en un carro, lo trajeron muerto de Meguido a Jerusalén y lo sepultaron en su sepulcro. Entonces el pueblo de la tierra tomó a Joacaz hijo de Josías, lo ungieron y lo proclamaron rey en lugar de su padre. Reinado y destronamiento de Joacaz

31 J ehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he became king, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.

Joacaz tenía veintitrés años cuando comenzó a reinar y reinó tres meses en Jerusalén. El nombre de su madre era Hamutal, hija de Jeremías, de Libna.

32 A nd he did evil in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his fathers had done.

E hizo lo malo ante los ojos de Jehová, conforme a todas las cosas que sus padres habían hecho.

33 N ow Pharaoh Necho put him in prison at Riblah in the land of Hamath, that he might not reign in Jerusalem; and he imposed on the land a tribute of one hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold.

El faraón Necao lo tuvo preso en Ribla, en la provincia de Hamat, para que no reinara en Jerusalén, e impuso al país un tributo de cien talentos de plata y uno de oro.

34 T hen Pharaoh Necho made Eliakim the son of Josiah king in place of his father Josiah, and changed his name to Jehoiakim. And Pharaoh took Jehoahaz and went to Egypt, and he died there. Jehoiakim Reigns in Judah

Entonces el faraón Necao puso como rey a Eliaquim hijo de Josías, en lugar de Josías, su padre, y le cambió el nombre por el de Joacim. A Joacaz lo tomó y se lo llevó a Egipto, donde murió.

35 S o Jehoiakim gave the silver and gold to Pharaoh; but he taxed the land to give money according to the command of Pharaoh; he exacted the silver and gold from the people of the land, from every one according to his assessment, to give it to Pharaoh Necho.

Joacim entregó al faraón la plata y el oro, pero tuvo que imponer una contribución al país para dar el dinero exigido por la orden del faraón, sacando la plata y el oro del pueblo de la tierra, según un estimado de la hacienda de cada uno, para darlo al faraón Necao. Reinado de Joacim

36 J ehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Zebudah the daughter of Pedaiah of Rumah.

Joacim tenía veinticinco años cuando comenzó a reinar y reinó once años en Jerusalén. El nombre de su madre era Zebuda, hija de Pedaías, de Ruma.

37 A nd he did evil in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his fathers had done.

Pero hizo lo malo ante los ojos de Jehová, conforme a todas las cosas que sus padres habían hecho.
