1 M y brethren, hold not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.

Hermanos míos, no tengáis vuestra fe en nuestro glorioso Señor Jesucristo con una actitud de favoritismo.

2 F or if there come into your synagogue a man with a gold ring, in fine clothing, and there come in also a poor man in vile clothing;

Porque si en vuestra congregación entra un hombre con anillo de oro y vestido de ropa lujosa, y también entra un pobre con ropa sucia,

3 a nd ye have regard to him that weareth the fine clothing, and say, Sit thou here in a good place; and ye say to the poor man, Stand thou there, or sit under my footstool;

y dais atención especial al que lleva la ropa lujosa, y decís: Tú siéntate aquí, en un buen lugar; y al pobre decís: Tú estate allí de pie, o siéntate junto a mi estrado;

4 D o ye not make distinctions among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?

¿no habéis hecho distinciones entre vosotros mismos, y habéis venido a ser jueces con malos pensamientos ?

5 H earken, my beloved brethren; did not God choose them that are poor as to the world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he promised to them that love him?

Hermanos míos amados, escuchad: ¿No escogió Dios a los pobres de este mundo para ser ricos en fe y herederos del reino que El prometió a los que le aman?

6 B ut ye have dishonored the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you, and themselves drag you before the judgment-seats?

Pero vosotros habéis menospreciado al pobre. ¿No son los ricos los que os oprimen y personalmente os arrastran a los tribunales ?

7 D o not they blaspheme the honorable name by which ye are called?

¿No blasfeman ellos el buen nombre por el cual habéis sido llamados ?

8 H owbeit if ye fulfil the royal law, according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself, ye do well:

Si en verdad cumplís la ley real conforme a la Escritura: Amaras a tu projimo como a ti mismo, bien hacéis.

9 b ut if ye have respect of persons, ye commit sin, being convicted by the law as transgressors.

Pero si mostráis favoritismo, cometéis pecado y sois hallados culpables por la ley como transgresores.

10 F or whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is become guilty of all.

Porque cualquiera que guarda toda la ley, pero tropieza en un punto, se ha hecho culpable de todos.

11 F or he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou dost not commit adultery, but killest, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

Pues el que dijo: No cometas adulterio, también dijo: No mates. Ahora bien, si tú no cometes adulterio, pero matas, te has convertido en transgresor de la ley.

12 S o speak ye, and so do, as men that are to be judged by a law of liberty.

Así hablad y así proceded, como los que han de ser juzgados por la ley de la libertad.

13 F or judgment is without mercy to him that hath showed no mercy: mercy glorieth against judgment.

Porque el juicio será sin misericordia para el que no ha mostrado misericordia; la misericordia triunfa sobre el juicio. La fe y las obras

14 W hat doth it profit, my brethren, if a man say he hath faith, but have not works? can that faith save him?

¿De qué sirve, hermanos míos, si alguno dice que tiene fe, pero no tiene obras? ¿Acaso puede esa fe salvarlo?

15 I f a brother or sister be naked and in lack of daily food,

Si un hermano o una hermana no tienen ropa y carecen del sustento diario,

16 a nd one of you say unto them, Go in peace, be ye warmed and filled; and yet ye give them not the things needful to the body; what doth it profit?

y uno de vosotros les dice: Id en paz, calentaos y saciaos, pero no les dais lo necesario para su cuerpo, ¿de qué sirve ?

17 E ven so faith, if it have not works, is dead in itself.

Así también la fe por sí misma, si no tiene obras, está muerta.

18 Y ea, a man will say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: show me thy faith apart from thy works, and I by my works will show thee my faith.

Pero alguno dirá: Tú tienes fe y yo tengo obras. Muéstrame tu fe sin las obras, y yo te mostraré mi fe por mis obras.

19 T hou believest that God is one; thou doest well: the demons also believe, and shudder.

Tú crees que Dios es uno. Haces bien; también los demonios creen, y tiemblan.

20 B ut wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith apart from works is barren?

Pero, ¿estás dispuesto a admitir, oh hombre vano, que la fe sin obras es estéril ?

21 W as not Abraham our father justified by works, in that he offered up Isaac his son upon the altar?

¿No fue justificado por las obras Abraham nuestro padre cuando ofreció a Isaac su hijo sobre el altar?

22 T hou seest that faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect;

Ya ves que la fe actuaba juntamente con sus obras, y como resultado de las obras, la fe fue perfeccionada;

23 a nd the scripture was fulfilled which saith, And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned unto him for righteousness; and he was called the friend of God.

y se cumplió la Escritura que dice: Y Abraham creyo a Dios y le fue contado por justicia, y fue llamado amigo de Dios.

24 Y e see that by works a man is justified, and not only by faith.

Vosotros veis que el hombre es justificado por las obras y no sólo por la fe.

25 A nd in like manner was not also Rahab the harlot justified by works, in that she received the messengers, and sent them out another way?

Y de la misma manera, ¿no fue la ramera Rahab también justificada por las obras cuando recibió a los mensajeros y los envió por otro camino ?

26 F or as the body apart from the spirit is dead, even so faith apart from works is dead.

Porque así como el cuerpo sin el espíritu está muerto, así también la fe sin las obras está muerta.
