1 I n the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, came this word from Jehovah, saying,

Al comienzo del reinado de Joacim, hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, vino esta palabra del Señor, diciendo:

2 T hus saith Jehovah: Stand in the court of Jehovah's house, and speak unto all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in Jehovah's house, all the words that I command thee to speak unto them; diminish not a word.

Así dice el Señor: “Ponte en el atrio de la casa del Señor, y habla a todas las ciudades de Judá que vienen a adorar en la casa del Señor todas las palabras que te he mandado decirles. No omitas ni una palabra.

3 I t may be they will hearken, and turn every man from his evil way; that I may repent me of the evil which I purpose to do unto them because of the evil of their doings.

“Tal vez escuchen y cada uno se vuelva de su mal camino, y yo me arrepienta del mal que pienso hacerles a causa de la maldad de sus obras.”

4 A nd thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith Jehovah: If ye will not hearken to me, to walk in my law, which I have set before you,

Les dirás: “Así dice el Señor: ‘Si no me escucháis, para andar en mi ley que he puesto delante de vosotros,

5 t o hearken to the words of my servants the prophets, whom I send unto you, even rising up early and sending them, but ye have not hearkened;

escuchando las palabras de mis siervos los profetas que os he enviado repetidas veces, pero no los habéis escuchado,

6 t hen will I make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.

entonces pondré esta casa como Silo, y esta ciudad la pondré por maldición para todas las naciones de la tierra.’”

7 A nd the priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of Jehovah.

Y los sacerdotes, los profetas y todo el pueblo oyeron a Jeremías decir estas palabras en la casa del Señor.

8 A nd it came to pass, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that Jehovah had commanded him to speak unto all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people laid hold on him, saying, Thou shalt surely die.

Cuando Jeremías terminó de decir todo lo que el Señor le había mandado que hablara a todo el pueblo, lo apresaron los sacerdotes, los profetas y todo el pueblo, diciendo: De cierto, morirás.

9 W hy hast thou prophesied in the name of Jehovah, saying, This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate, without inhabitant? And all the people were gathered unto Jeremiah in the house of Jehovah.

¿Por qué has profetizado en nombre del Señor, diciendo: “Esta casa será como Silo y esta ciudad quedará desolada sin habitante alguno ?” Y todo el pueblo se congregó contra Jeremías en la casa del Señor.

10 A nd when the princes of Judah heard these things, they came up from the king's house unto the house of Jehovah; and they sat in the entry of the new gate of Jehovah's house.

Y cuando los jefes de Judá oyeron estas cosas, subieron de la casa del rey a la casa del Señor, y se sentaron a la entrada de la puerta Nueva de la casa del Señor.

11 T hen spake the priests and the prophets unto the princes and to all the people, saying, This man is worthy of death; for he hath prophesied against this city, as ye have heard with your ears.

Y los sacerdotes y los profetas hablaron a los jefes y a todo el pueblo, diciendo: ¡Sentencia de muerte para este hombre!, porque ha profetizado contra esta ciudad, como habéis oído con vuestros propios oídos.

12 T hen spake Jeremiah unto all the princes and to all the people, saying, Jehovah sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that ye have heard.

Entonces Jeremías habló a todos los jefes y a todo el pueblo, diciendo: El Señor me ha enviado a profetizar contra esta casa y contra esta ciudad todas las palabras que habéis oído.

13 N ow therefore amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of Jehovah your God; and Jehovah will repent him of the evil that he hath pronounced against you.

Ahora bien, enmendad vuestros caminos y vuestras obras, y oíd la voz del Señor vuestro Dios, y el Señor se arrepentirá del mal que ha pronunciado contra vosotros.

14 B ut as for me, behold, I am in your hand: do with me as is good and right in your eyes.

En cuanto a mí, he aquí estoy en vuestras manos; haced de mí como mejor y más recto sea a vuestros ojos.

15 O nly know ye for certain that, if ye put me to death, ye will bring innocent blood upon yourselves, and upon this city, and upon the inhabitants thereof; for of a truth Jehovah hath sent me unto you to speak all these words in your ears.

Pero sabed bien que si me matáis, sangre inocente echaréis sobre vosotros y sobre esta ciudad y sobre sus habitantes; porque en verdad el Señor me ha enviado a vosotros para hablar en vuestros oídos todas estas palabras.

16 T hen said the princes and all the people unto the priests and to the prophets: This man is not worthy of death; for he hath spoken to us in the name of Jehovah our God.

Dijeron los jefes y todo el pueblo a los sacerdotes y a los profetas: Que no haya sentencia de muerte para este hombre, porque en nombre del Señor nuestro Dios nos ha hablado.

17 T hen rose up certain of the elders of the land, and spake to all the assembly of the people, saying,

Y se levantaron algunos de los ancianos del país y hablaron a toda la asamblea del pueblo, diciendo:

18 M icah the Morashtite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah; and he spake to all the people of Judah, saying, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Zion shall be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.

Miqueas de Moréset profetizó en días de Ezequías, rey de Judá, y habló a todo el pueblo de Judá, diciendo: “Así ha dicho el Señor de los ejércitos: ‘Sion será arada como un campo, Jerusalén se convertirá en un montón de ruinas, y el monte del santuario será como los lugares altos de un bosque.’”

19 D id Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him to death? did he not fear Jehovah, and entreat the favor of Jehovah, and Jehovah repented him of the evil which he had pronounced against them? Thus should we commit great evil against our own souls.

¿Acaso le dieron muerte Ezequías, rey de Judá, y todo Judá? ¿No temió él al Señor y suplicó el favor del Señor, y el Señor se arrepintió del mal que había pronunciado contra ellos ? Nosotros, pues, estamos cometiendo un gran mal contra nosotros mismos.

20 A nd there was also a man that prophesied in the name of Jehovah, Uriah the son of Shemaiah of Kiriath-jearim; and he prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah:

Y hubo también un hombre que profetizó en el nombre del Señor, Urías, hijo de Semaías de Quiriat-jearim, el cual profetizó contra esta ciudad y contra esta tierra palabras semejantes a todas las de Jeremías.

21 a nd when Jehoiakim the king, with all his mighty-men, and all the princes, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death; but when Uriah heard it, he was afraid, and fled, and went into Egypt:

Cuando el rey Joacim y todos sus valientes y todos los jefes oyeron sus palabras, el rey procuró matarlo; pero Urías se enteró, tuvo miedo, huyó y se fue a Egipto.

22 a nd Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt, namely, Elnathan the son of Achbor, and certain men with him, into Egypt;

Entonces el rey Joacim envió hombres a Egipto: a Elnatán, hijo de Acbor, y a otros hombres con él, a Egipto.

23 a nd they fetched forth Uriah out of Egypt, and brought him unto Jehoiakim the king, who slew him with the sword, and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people.

Y trajeron a Urías de Egipto y lo llevaron al rey Joacim, quien lo mató a espada y echó su cadáver a la fosa común.

24 B ut the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.

Pero la mano de Ahicam, hijo de Safán, estaba con Jeremías, de manera que no fue entregado en manos del pueblo para que le dieran muerte.
