1 N ow the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which Jehovah God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of any tree of the garden?

Y la serpiente era más astuta que cualquiera de los animales del campo que el Señor Dios había hecho. Y dijo a la mujer: ¿Conque Dios os ha dicho: “No comeréis de ningún árbol del huerto”?

2 A nd the woman said unto the serpent, Of the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat:

Y la mujer respondió a la serpiente: Del fruto de los árboles del huerto podemos comer;

3 b ut of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

pero del fruto del árbol que está en medio del huerto, ha dicho Dios: “No comeréis de él, ni lo tocaréis, para que no muráis.”

4 A nd the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

Y la serpiente dijo a la mujer: Ciertamente no moriréis.

5 f or God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as God, knowing good and evil.

Pues Dios sabe que el día que de él comáis, serán abiertos vuestros ojos y seréis como Dios, conociendo el bien y el mal.

6 A nd when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat; and she gave also unto her husband with her, and he did eat.

Cuando la mujer vio que el árbol era bueno para comer, y que era agradable a los ojos, y que el árbol era deseable para alcanzar sabiduría, tomó de su fruto y comió; y dio también a su marido que estaba con ella, y él comió.

7 A nd the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig-leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

Entonces fueron abiertos los ojos de ambos, y conocieron que estaban desnudos; y cosieron hojas de higuera y se hicieron delantales. Sentencia por el pecado y promesa de redención

8 A nd they heard the voice of Jehovah God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Jehovah God amongst the trees of the garden.

Y oyeron al Señor Dios que se paseaba en el huerto al fresco del día; y el hombre y su mujer se escondieron de la presencia del Señor Dios entre los árboles del huerto.

9 A nd Jehovah God called unto the man, and said unto him, Where art thou?

Y el Señor Dios llamó al hombre, y le dijo: ¿Dónde estás ?

10 A nd he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.

Y él respondió: Te oí en el huerto, y tuve miedo porque estaba desnudo, y me escondí.

11 A nd he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?

Y Dios le dijo: ¿Quién te ha hecho saber que estabas desnudo? ¿Has comido del árbol del cual te mandé que no comieras?

12 A nd the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.

Y el hombre respondió: La mujer que tú me diste por compañera me dio del árbol, y yo comí.

13 A nd Jehovah God said unto the woman, What is this thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

Entonces el Señor Dios dijo a la mujer: ¿Qué es esto que has hecho? Y la mujer respondió: La serpiente me engañó, y yo comí.

14 A nd Jehovah God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, cursed art thou above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

Y el Señor Dios dijo a la serpiente: Por cuanto has hecho esto, maldita serás más que todos los animales, y más que todas las bestias del campo; sobre tu vientre andarás, y polvo comerás todos los días de tu vida.

15 a nd I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed: he shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Y pondré enemistad entre tú y la mujer, y entre tu simiente y su simiente; él te herirá en la cabeza, y tú lo herirás en el calcañar.

16 U nto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy pain and thy conception; in pain thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

A la mujer dijo: En gran manera multiplicaré tu dolor en el parto, con dolor darás a luz los hijos; y con todo, tu deseo será para tu marido, y él tendrá dominio sobre ti.

17 A nd unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in toil shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;

Entonces dijo a Adán: Por cuanto has escuchado la voz de tu mujer y has comido del árbol del cual te ordené, diciendo: “No comerás de él”, maldita será la tierra por tu causa; con trabajo comerás de ella todos los días de tu vida.

18 t horns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;

Espinos y abrojos te producirá, y comerás de las plantas del campo.

19 i n the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

Con el sudor de tu rostro comerás el pan hasta que vuelvas a la tierra, porque de ella fuiste tomado; pues polvo eres, y al polvo volverás.

20 A nd the man called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.

Y el hombre le puso por nombre Eva a su mujer, porque ella era la madre de todos los vivientes.

21 A nd Jehovah God made for Adam and for his wife coats of skins, and clothed them.

Y el Señor Dios hizo vestiduras de piel para Adán y su mujer, y los vistió. Castigo por el pecado

22 A nd Jehovah God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil; and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever-

Entonces el Señor Dios dijo: He aquí, el hombre ha venido a ser como uno de nosotros, conociendo el bien y el mal; cuidado ahora no vaya a extender su mano y tomar también del árbol de la vida, y coma y viva para siempre.

23 t herefore Jehovah God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.

Y el Señor Dios lo echó del huerto del Edén, para que labrara la tierra de la cual fue tomado.

24 S o he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden the Cherubim, and the flame of a sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

Expulsó, pues, al hombre; y al oriente del huerto del Edén puso querubines, y una espada encendida que giraba en todas direcciones, para guardar el camino del árbol de la vida.
