1 I f there is therefore any exhortation in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any tender mercies and compassions,

Por tanto, si hay algún estímulo en Cristo, si hay algún consuelo de amor, si hay alguna comunión del Espíritu, si algún afecto y compasión,

2 m ake full my joy, that ye be of the same mind, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind;

3 d oing nothing through faction or through vainglory, but in lowliness of mind each counting other better than himself;

Nada hagáis por egoísmo o por vanagloria, sino que con actitud humilde cada uno de vosotros considere al otro como más importante que a sí mismo,

4 n ot looking each of you to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others.

no buscando cada uno sus propios intereses, sino más bien los intereses de los demás.

5 H ave this mind in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

Haya, pues, en vosotros esta actitud que hubo también en Cristo Jesús,

6 w ho, existing in the form of God, counted not the being on an equality with God a thing to be grasped,

el cual, aunque existía en forma de Dios, no consideró el ser igual a Dios como algo a qué aferrarse,

7 b ut emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men;

sino que se despojó a sí mismo tomando forma de siervo, haciéndose semejante a los hombres.

8 a nd being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, becoming obedient even unto death, yea, the death of the cross.

Y hallándose en forma de hombre, se humilló a sí mismo, haciéndose obediente hasta la muerte, y muerte de cruz.

9 W herefore also God highly exalted him, and gave unto him the name which is above every name;

Por lo cual Dios también le exaltó hasta lo sumo, y le confirió el nombre que es sobre todo nombre,

10 t hat in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things on earth and things under the earth,

para que al nombre de Jesús se doble toda rodilla de los que están en el cielo, y en la tierra, y debajo de la tierra,

11 a nd that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

y toda lengua confiese que Jesucristo es Señor, para gloria de Dios Padre. Exhortación a la obediencia

12 S o then, my beloved, even as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;

Así que, amados míos, tal como siempre habéis obedecido, no sólo en mi presencia, sino ahora mucho más en mi ausencia, ocupaos en vuestra salvación con temor y temblor;

13 f or it is God who worketh in you both to will and to work, for his good pleasure.

porque Dios es quien obra en vosotros tanto el querer como el hacer, para su beneplácito.

14 D o all things without murmurings and questionings:

Haced todas las cosas sin murmuraciones ni discusiones,

15 t hat ye may become blameless and harmless, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom ye are seen as lights in the world,

para que seáis irreprensibles y sencillos, hijos de Dios sin tacha en medio de una generación torcida y perversa, en medio de la cual resplandecéis como luminares en el mundo,

16 h olding forth the word of life; that I may have whereof to glory in the day of Christ, that I did not run in vain neither labor in vain.

sosteniendo firmemente la palabra de vida, a fin de que yo tenga motivo para gloriarme en el día de Cristo, ya que no habré corrido en vano ni habré trabajado en vano.

17 Y ea, and if I am offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all:

Pero aunque yo sea derramado como libación sobre el sacrificio y servicio de vuestra fe, me regocijo y comparto mi gozo con todos vosotros.

18 a nd in the same manner do ye also joy, and rejoice with me.

Y también vosotros, os ruego, regocijaos de la misma manera, y compartid vuestro gozo conmigo. Timoteo y Epafrodito, soldados fieles

19 B ut I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state.

Mas espero en el Señor Jesús enviaros pronto a Timoteo, a fin de que yo también sea alentado al saber de vuestra condición.

20 F or I have no man likeminded, who will care truly for your state.

Pues a nadie más tengo del mismo sentir mío y que esté sinceramente interesado en vuestro bienestar.

21 F or they all seek their own, not the things of Jesus Christ.

Porque todos buscan sus propios intereses, no los de Cristo Jesús.

22 B ut ye know the proof of him, that, as a child serveth a father, so he served with me in furtherance of the gospel.

Pero vosotros conocéis sus probados méritos, que sirvió conmigo en la propagación del evangelio como un hijo sirve a su padre.

23 H im therefore I hope to send forthwith, so soon as I shall see how it will go with me:

Por tanto, a éste espero enviarlo inmediatamente tan pronto vea cómo van las cosas conmigo;

24 b ut I trust in the Lord that I myself also shall come shortly.

y confío en el Señor que también yo mismo iré pronto.

25 B ut I counted it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother and fellow-worker and fellow-soldier, and your messenger and minister to my need;

Pero creí necesario enviaros a Epafrodito, mi hermano, colaborador y compañero de milicia, quien también es vuestro mensajero y servidor para mis necesidades;

26 s ince he longed after you all, and was sore troubled, because ye had heard that he was sick:

porque él os añoraba a todos vosotros, y estaba angustiado porque habíais oído que se había enfermado.

27 f or indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, that I might not have sorrow upon sorrow.

Pues en verdad estuvo enfermo, a punto de morir; pero Dios tuvo misericordia de él, y no sólo de él, sino también de mí, para que yo no tuviera tristeza sobre tristeza.

28 I have sent him therefore the more diligently, that, when ye see him again, ye may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful.

Así que lo he enviado con mayor solicitud, para que al verlo de nuevo, os regocijéis y yo esté más tranquilo en cuanto a vosotros.

29 R eceive him therefore in the Lord with all joy; and hold such in honor:

Recibidlo, pues, en el Señor con todo gozo, y tened en alta estima a los que son como él;

30 b ecause for the work of Christ he came nigh unto death, hazarding his life to supply that which was lacking in your service toward me.

porque estuvo al borde de la muerte por la obra de Cristo, arriesgando su vida para completar lo que faltaba en vuestro servicio hacia mí.
