1 W hy boastest thou thyself in mischief, O mighty man? the goodness of God endureth continually.

2 T hy tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

La tua lingua medita rovine; essa è simile a un rasoio affilato, o artefice d’inganni.

3 T hou lovest evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah.

Tu preferisci il male al bene, mentire piuttosto che dire la verità.

4 T hou lovest all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue.

Tu ami ogni parola che causa rovina, o lingua insidiosa!

5 G od shall likewise destroy thee for ever, he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah.

Perciò Dio ti distruggerà per sempre; ti afferrerà, ti strapperà dalla tua tenda e ti sradicherà dalla terra dei viventi.

6 T he righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him:

I giusti lo vedranno e temeranno, poi rideranno di lui, dicendo:

7 l o, this is the man that made not God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness.

«Ecco l’uomo che non aveva fatto di Dio la sua fortezza, ma aveva fiducia nell’abbondanza delle sue ricchezze e si faceva forte della sua perversità!»

8 B ut I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.

Ma io sono come un olivo verdeggiante nella casa di Dio; io confido per sempre nella bontà di Dio.

9 I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name; for it is good before thy saints.

Sempre ti celebrerò per quanto hai fatto e in presenza dei tuoi fedeli spererò nel tuo nome, perché tu sei buono.
