1 N ow concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.

Circa i doni spirituali, fratelli, non voglio che siate nell’ignoranza.

2 Y e know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.

Voi sapete che quando eravate pagani eravate trascinati dietro agli idoli muti, secondo come vi si conduceva.

3 W herefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

Perciò vi faccio sapere che nessuno, parlando per lo Spirito di Dio, dice: «Gesù è anatema!» e nessuno può dire: «Gesù è il Signore!» se non per lo Spirito Santo.

4 N ow there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

Ora vi è diversità di doni, ma vi è un medesimo Spirito.

5 A nd there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.

Vi è diversità di ministeri, ma non vi è che un medesimo Signore.

6 A nd there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.

Vi è varietà di operazioni, ma non vi è che un medesimo Dio, il quale opera tutte le cose in tutti.

7 B ut the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

Ora a ciascuno è data la manifestazione dello Spirito per il bene comune.

8 F or to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;

Infatti a uno è data, mediante lo Spirito, parola di sapienza; a un altro, parola di conoscenza, secondo il medesimo Spirito;

9 t o another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;

a un altro, fede, mediante il medesimo Spirito; a un altro, doni di guarigione, per mezzo del medesimo Spirito;

10 t o another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

a un altro, potenza di operare miracoli; a un altro, profezia; a un altro, il discernimento degli spiriti; a un altro, diversità di lingue e a un altro, l’interpretazione delle lingue;

11 b ut all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

ma tutte queste cose le opera quell’unico e medesimo Spirito, distribuendo i doni a ciascuno in particolare come vuole. La chiesa viene paragonata al corpo umano

12 F or as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.

Poiché, come il corpo è uno e ha molte membra, e tutte le membra del corpo, benché siano molte, formano un solo corpo, così è anche di Cristo.

13 F or by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

Infatti noi tutti siamo stati battezzati in un unico Spirito per formare un unico corpo, Giudei e Greci, schiavi e liberi; e tutti siamo stati abbeverati di un solo Spirito.

14 F or the body is not one member, but many.

Infatti il corpo non si compone di un membro solo, ma di molte membra.

15 I f the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?

Se il piede dicesse: «Siccome io non sono mano, non sono del corpo», non per questo non sarebbe del corpo.

16 A nd if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?

Se l’orecchio dicesse: «Siccome io non sono occhio, non sono del corpo», non per questo non sarebbe del corpo.

17 I f the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?

Se tutto il corpo fosse occhio, dove sarebbe l’udito? Se tutto fosse udito, dove sarebbe l’odorato?

18 B ut now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.

Ma ora Dio ha collocato ciascun membro nel corpo, come ha voluto.

19 A nd if they were all one member, where were the body?

Se tutte le membra fossero un unico membro, dove sarebbe il corpo?

20 B ut now are they many members, yet but one body.

Ci sono dunque molte membra, ma c’è un unico corpo;

21 A nd the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.

l’occhio non può dire alla mano: «Non ho bisogno di te»; né il capo può dire ai piedi: «Non ho bisogno di voi».

22 N ay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:

Al contrario, le membra del corpo che sembrano essere più deboli sono invece necessarie;

23 a nd those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.

e quelle parti del corpo che stimiamo essere le meno onorevoli, le circondiamo di maggior onore; le nostre parti indecorose sono trattate con maggior decoro,

24 F or our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked:

mentre le parti nostre decorose non ne hanno bisogno; ma Dio ha formato il corpo in modo da dare maggior onore alla parte che ne mancava,

25 t hat there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.

perché non ci fosse divisione nel corpo, ma le membra avessero la medesima cura le une per le altre.

26 A nd whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.

Se un membro soffre, tutte le membra soffrono con lui; se un membro è onorato, tutte le membra ne gioiscono con lui.

27 N ow ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.

Ora voi siete il corpo di Cristo e membra di esso, ciascuno per parte sua.

28 A nd God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

E Dio ha posto nella chiesa in primo luogo degli apostoli, in secondo luogo dei profeti, in terzo luogo dei dottori, poi miracoli, poi doni di guarigioni, assistenze, doni di governo, diversità di lingue.

29 A re all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?

Sono forse tutti apostoli? Sono forse tutti profeti? Sono forse tutti dottori? Fanno tutti dei miracoli?

30 h ave all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?

Tutti hanno forse i doni di guarigioni? Parlano tutti in altre lingue? Interpretano tutti?

31 B ut covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.

Voi, però, desiderate ardentemente i doni maggiori! L’eccellenza dell’amore Ora vi mostrerò una via, che è la via per eccellenza.
