1 I love the Lord, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications.

2 B ecause he hath inclined his ear unto me, therefore will I call upon him as long as I live.

Poiché ha teso l’orecchio verso di me, io lo invocherò per tutta la mia vita.

3 T he sorrows of death compassed me, and the pains of hell gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow.

I legami della morte mi avevano circondato, le angosce del soggiorno dei morti mi avevano colto; mi avevano raggiunto la disgrazia e il dolore.

4 T hen called I upon the name of the Lord; O Lord, I beseech thee, deliver my soul.

Ma io invocai il nome del Signore: « Signore, libera l’anima mia!»

5 G racious is the Lord, and righteous; yea, our God is merciful.

Il Signore è pietoso e giusto, il nostro Dio è misericordioso.

6 T he Lord preserveth the simple: I was brought low, and he helped me.

Il Signore protegge i semplici; io ero ridotto in misero stato ed egli mi ha salvato.

7 R eturn unto thy rest, O my soul; for the Lord hath dealt bountifully with thee.

Ritorna, anima mia, al tuo riposo, perché il Signore ti ha colmata di grazie.

8 F or thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling.

Tu hai preservato l’anima mia dalla morte, i miei occhi dalle lacrime, i miei piedi da cadute.

9 I will walk before the Lord in the land of the living.

Io camminerò alla presenza del Signore sulla terra dei viventi.

10 I believed, therefore have I spoken: I was greatly afflicted:

Ho creduto, perciò ho parlato. Io ero molto afflitto.

11 I said in my haste, All men are liars.

Dicevo nel mio turbamento: «Ogni uomo è bugiardo».

12 W hat shall I render unto the Lord for all his benefits toward me?

Che potrò ricambiare al Signore per tutti i benefici che mi ha fatti?

13 I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the Lord.

Io alzerò il calice della salvezza e invocherò il nome del Signore.

14 I will pay my vows unto the Lord now in the presence of all his people.

Scioglierò i miei voti al Signore e lo farò in presenza di tutto il suo popolo.

15 P recious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.

È preziosa agli occhi del Signore la morte dei suoi fedeli.

16 O Lord, truly I am thy servant; I am thy servant, and the son of thine handmaid: thou hast loosed my bonds.

Sì, o Signore, io sono il tuo servo, sono tuo servo, figlio della tua serva; tu hai spezzato le mie catene.

17 I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the Lord.

Io ti offrirò un sacrificio di lode e invocherò il nome del Signore.

18 I will pay my vows unto the Lord now in the presence of all his people,

Adempirò le mie promesse al Signore e lo farò in presenza di tutto il suo popolo,

19 i n the courts of the Lord’s house, in the midst of thee, O Jerusalem. Praise ye the Lord.

nei cortili della casa del Signore, in mezzo a te, o Gerusalemme. Alleluia.
