1 Y e shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the Lord your God.

«“Non vi farete e non metterete in piedi né idoli, né sculture, né monumenti. Nel vostro paese non rizzerete pietre scolpite per prostrarvi davanti a loro, poiché io sono il Signore vostro Dio.

2 Y e shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the Lord.

Osserverete i miei sabati e porterete rispetto al mio santuario. Io sono il Signore.

3 I f ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them;

Se vi comportate secondo le mie leggi, se osservate i miei comandamenti e li mettete in pratica,

4 t hen I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.

io vi darò le piogge nella loro stagione, la terra darà i suoi prodotti e gli alberi della campagna daranno i loro frutti.

5 A nd your threshing shall reach unto the vintage, and the vintage shall reach unto the sowing time: and ye shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely.

La trebbiatura vi durerà fino alla vendemmia, e la vendemmia vi durerà fino alla semina; mangerete a sazietà il vostro pane e vivrete sicuri nel vostro paese.

6 A nd I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid: and I will rid evil beasts out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land.

Io farò sì che la pace regni nel paese; voi vi coricherete e non ci sarà chi vi spaventi; farò sparire dal paese le bestie feroci e la spada non passerà per il vostro paese.

7 A nd ye shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword.

Voi inseguirete i vostri nemici ed essi cadranno davanti a voi per la spada.

8 A nd five of you shall chase an hundred, and an hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight: and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.

Cinque di voi ne inseguiranno cento, cento di voi ne inseguiranno diecimila, e i vostri nemici cadranno davanti a voi per la spada.

9 F or I will have respect unto you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, and establish my covenant with you.

Io mi volgerò verso di voi, vi renderò fecondi e vi moltiplicherò e manterrò il mio patto con voi.

10 A nd ye shall eat old store, and bring forth the old because of the new.

Voi mangerete il raccolto dell’anno precedente e, quando sarà vecchio, lo tirerete fuori per fare posto a quello nuovo.

11 A nd I will set my tabernacle among you: and my soul shall not abhor you.

Io stabilirò la mia dimora in mezzo a voi e non vi detesterò.

12 A nd I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be my people.

Camminerò tra di voi, sarò vostro Dio e voi sarete mio popolo.

13 I am the Lord your God, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their bondmen; and I have broken the bands of your yoke, and made you go upright.

Io sono il Signore vostro Dio; vi ho fatto uscire dal paese d’Egitto per liberarvi dalla schiavitù; ho spezzato il vostro giogo e vi ho fatto camminare a testa alta. Maledizioni

14 B ut if ye will not hearken unto me, and will not do all these commandments;

«“Ma se non mi date ascolto e se non mettete in pratica tutti questi comandamenti,

15 a nd if ye shall despise my statutes, or if your soul abhor my judgments, so that ye will not do all my commandments, but that ye break my covenant:

se disprezzate le mie leggi e detestate le mie prescrizioni non mettendo in pratica tutti i miei comandamenti e così rompete il mio patto,

16 I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.

ecco quel che vi farò a mia volta: manderò contro di voi il terrore, la consunzione e la febbre, che annebbieranno i vostri occhi e consumeranno la vostra vita, e seminerete invano la vostra semenza: la mangeranno i vostri nemici.

17 A nd I will set my face against you, and ye shall be slain before your enemies: they that hate you shall reign over you; and ye shall flee when none pursueth you.

Volgerò la mia faccia contro di voi e voi sarete sconfitti dai vostri nemici; quelli che vi odiano vi domineranno e vi darete alla fuga senza che nessuno vi insegua.

18 A nd if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.

Se nemmeno dopo questo vorrete darmi ascolto, io vi castigherò sette volte di più per i vostri peccati.

19 A nd I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass:

Spezzerò la superbia della vostra forza, farò in modo che il vostro cielo sia come di ferro e la vostra terra come di bronzo.

20 a nd your strength shall be spent in vain: for your land shall not yield her increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruits.

La vostra forza si consumerà invano, poiché la vostra terra non darà i suoi prodotti e gli alberi della campagna non daranno i loro frutti.

21 A nd if ye walk contrary unto me, and will not hearken unto me; I will bring seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins.

E se mi resistete con la vostra condotta e non volete darmi ascolto, io vi colpirò sette volte di più, secondo i vostri peccati.

22 I will also send wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children, and destroy your cattle, and make you few in number; and your high ways shall be desolate.

Manderò contro di voi le bestie feroci, che vi rapiranno i figli, stermineranno il vostro bestiame, vi ridurranno a un piccolo numero, e le vostre strade diventeranno deserte.

23 A nd if ye will not be reformed by me by these things, but will walk contrary unto me;

E se, nonostante questi castighi, non volete correggervi per tornare a me, ma con la vostra condotta mi resisterete, anche io vi resisterò

24 t hen will I also walk contrary unto you, and will punish you yet seven times for your sins.

e vi colpirò sette volte di più per i vostri peccati.

25 A nd I will bring a sword upon you, that shall avenge the quarrel of my covenant: and when ye are gathered together within your cities, I will send the pestilence among you; and ye shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy.

Manderò contro di voi la spada, che farà vendetta per la trasgressione del mio patto; voi vi raccoglierete nelle vostre città, ma io manderò in mezzo a voi la peste e sarete dati in mano al nemico.

26 A nd when I have broken the staff of your bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver you your bread again by weight: and ye shall eat, and not be satisfied.

Quando vi toglierò il sostegno del pane, dieci donne cuoceranno il vostro pane in uno stesso forno, vi distribuiranno il vostro pane a peso e mangerete, ma non vi sazierete.

27 A nd if ye will not for all this hearken unto me, but walk contrary unto me;

E se, nonostante tutto questo, non volete darmi ascolto, ma con la vostra condotta mi resisterete,

28 t hen I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins.

anch’io vi resisterò con furore e vi castigherò sette volte di più per i vostri peccati.

29 A nd ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat.

Mangerete la carne dei vostri figli e delle vostre figlie.

30 A nd I will destroy your high places, and cut down your images, and cast your carcases upon the carcases of your idols, and my soul shall abhor you.

Io distruggerò i vostri alti luoghi, spezzerò le vostre statue consacrate al sole, ammucchierò i vostri cadaveri sui resti dei vostri idoli e vi detesterò.

31 A nd I will make your cities waste, and bring your sanctuaries unto desolation, and I will not smell the savour of your sweet odours.

Ridurrò le vostre città a deserti, desolerò i vostri santuari e non aspirerò più il soave odore dei vostri profumi.

32 A nd I will bring the land into desolation: and your enemies which dwell therein shall be astonished at it.

Desolerò il paese; e i vostri nemici che vi abiteranno ne saranno stupefatti.

33 A nd I will scatter you among the heathen, and will draw out a sword after you: and your land shall be desolate, and your cities waste.

E, quanto a voi, io vi disperderò fra le nazioni e vi inseguirò a spada tratta; il vostro paese sarà desolato e le vostre città saranno deserte.

34 T hen shall the land enjoy her sabbaths, as long as it lieth desolate, and ye be in your enemies’ land; even then shall the land rest, and enjoy her sabbaths.

Allora la terra si godrà i suoi sabati per tutto il tempo che rimarrà desolata e che voi sarete nel paese dei vostri nemici; allora la terra si riposerà e si godrà i suoi sabati.

35 A s long as it lieth desolate it shall rest; because it did not rest in your sabbaths, when ye dwelt upon it.

Per tutto il tempo che rimarrà desolata avrà il riposo che non ebbe nei vostri sabati, quando voi l’abitavate.

36 A nd upon them that are left alive of you I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies; and the sound of a shaken leaf shall chase them; and they shall flee, as fleeing from a sword; and they shall fall when none pursueth.

Quanto ai superstiti fra di voi, io toglierò il coraggio dal loro cuore nel paese dei loro nemici; il rumore di una foglia agitata li metterà in fuga; fuggiranno come si fugge davanti alla spada e cadranno senza che nessuno li insegua.

37 A nd they shall fall one upon another, as it were before a sword, when none pursueth: and ye shall have no power to stand before your enemies.

Precipiteranno l’uno sopra l’altro come davanti alla spada, senza che nessuno li insegua, e voi non potrete resistere davanti ai vostri nemici.

38 A nd ye shall perish among the heathen, and the land of your enemies shall eat you up.

Perirete fra le nazioni e il paese dei vostri nemici vi divorerà.

39 A nd they that are left of you shall pine away in their iniquity in your enemies’ lands; and also in the iniquities of their fathers shall they pine away with them.

I superstiti fra di voi saranno afflitti nei paesi dei loro nemici a causa delle proprie iniquità; e saranno afflitti anche a causa delle iniquità dei loro padri.

40 I f they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary unto me;

«“E confesseranno la loro iniquità e l’iniquità dei loro padri, l’iniquità delle trasgressioni commesse contro di me e della resistenza oppostami,

41 a nd that I also have walked contrary unto them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity:

peccati per i quali anch’io avrò dovuto resistere loro e deportarli nel paese dei loro nemici; ma allora, se il cuore loro incirconciso si umilierà e se accetteranno la punizione della loro iniquità,

42 t hen will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land.

io mi ricorderò del mio patto con Giacobbe, mi ricorderò del mio patto con Isacco e del mio patto con Abraamo, e mi ricorderò del paese;

43 T he land also shall be left of them, and shall enjoy her sabbaths, while she lieth desolate without them: and they shall accept of the punishment of their iniquity: because, even because they despised my judgments, and because their soul abhorred my statutes.

poiché il paese sarà abbandonato da loro e si godrà i suoi sabati mentre rimarrà desolato, senza di loro. Essi sconteranno la loro colpa per aver detestato le mie prescrizioni e avere avuto in avversione le mie leggi.

44 A nd yet for all that, when they be in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break my covenant with them: for I am the Lord their God.

Ma, nonostante tutto questo, quando saranno nel paese dei loro nemici, io non li disprezzerò e non li prenderò in avversione fino al punto d’annientarli del tutto e di rompere il mio patto con loro; poiché io sono il Signore loro Dio;

45 B ut I will for their sakes remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the heathen, that I might be their God: I am the Lord.

ma per amor loro mi ricorderò del patto stretto con i loro antenati, che feci uscire dal paese d’Egitto, sotto gli occhi delle nazioni, per essere il loro Dio. Io sono il Signore ”».

46 T hese are the statutes and judgments and laws, which the Lord made between him and the children of Israel in mount Sinai by the hand of Moses.

Tali sono gli statuti, le prescrizioni e le leggi che il Signore stabilì tra sé e i figli d’Israele, sul monte Sinai, per mezzo di Mosè.
