1 T hen shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.

«Allora il regno dei cieli sarà paragonato a dieci vergini le quali, prese le loro lampade, uscirono a incontrare lo sposo.

2 A nd five of them were wise, and five were foolish.

Cinque di loro erano stolte e cinque avvedute;

3 T hey that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:

le stolte, nel prendere le loro lampade, non avevano preso con sé dell’olio,

4 b ut the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

mentre le avvedute, insieme con le loro lampade, avevano preso dell’olio nei vasi.

5 W hile the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.

Siccome lo sposo tardava, tutte divennero assonnate e si addormentarono.

6 A nd at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.

Verso mezzanotte si levò un grido: “Ecco lo sposo, uscitegli incontro!”

7 T hen all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.

Allora tutte quelle vergini si svegliarono e prepararono le loro lampade.

8 A nd the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.

E le stolte dissero alle avvedute: “Dateci del vostro olio, perché le nostre lampade si spengono”.

9 B ut the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.

Ma le avvedute risposero: “No, perché non basterebbe per noi e per voi; andate piuttosto dai venditori e compratevene!”

10 A nd while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.

Ma, mentre quelle andavano a comprarne, arrivò lo sposo; e quelle che erano pronte entrarono con lui nella sala delle nozze, e la porta fu chiusa.

11 A fterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.

Più tardi vennero anche le altre vergini, dicendo: “Signore, Signore, aprici!”

12 B ut he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.

Ma egli rispose: “Io vi dico in verità: Non vi conosco”.

13 W atch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

Vegliate dunque, perché non sapete né il giorno né l’ora. Parabola dei talenti

14 F or the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.

«Poiché avverrà come a un uomo il quale, partendo per un viaggio, chiamò i suoi servi e affidò loro i suoi beni.

15 A nd unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.

A uno diede cinque talenti, a un altro due e a un altro uno, a ciascuno secondo la sua capacità; e partì.

16 T hen he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.

Subito, colui che aveva ricevuto i cinque talenti andò a farli fruttare, e ne guadagnò altri cinque.

17 A nd likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.

Allo stesso modo, quello dei due talenti ne guadagnò altri due.

18 B ut he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money.

Ma colui che ne aveva ricevuto uno andò a fare una buca in terra e vi nascose il denaro del suo padrone.

19 A fter a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.

Dopo molto tempo, il padrone di quei servi ritornò a fare i conti con loro.

20 A nd so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.

Colui che aveva ricevuto i cinque talenti venne e presentò altri cinque talenti, dicendo: “Signore, tu mi affidasti cinque talenti: ecco, ho guadagnato altri cinque talenti”.

21 H is lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

Il suo padrone gli disse: “Va bene, servo buono e fedele; sei stato fedele in poca cosa, ti costituirò sopra molte cose; entra nella gioia del tuo Signore”.

22 H e also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.

Poi, si presentò anche quello dei due talenti e disse: “Signore, tu mi affidasti due talenti; ecco, ho guadagnato altri due talenti”.

23 H is lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

Il suo padrone gli disse: “Va bene, servo buono e fedele, sei stato fedele in poca cosa, ti costituirò sopra molte cose; entra nella gioia del tuo Signore”.

24 T hen he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed:

Poi si avvicinò anche quello che aveva ricevuto un talento solo e disse: “Signore, io sapevo che tu sei un uomo duro, che mieti dove non hai seminato e raccogli dove non hai sparso;

25 a nd I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.

ho avuto paura e sono andato a nascondere il tuo talento sotto terra; eccoti il tuo”.

26 H is lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:

Il suo padrone gli rispose: “Servo malvagio e fannullone, tu sapevi che io mieto dove non ho seminato e raccolgo dove non ho sparso;

27 t hou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.

dovevi dunque portare il mio denaro dai banchieri; al mio ritorno avrei ritirato il mio con l’interesse.

28 T ake therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.

Toglietegli dunque il talento e datelo a colui che ha i dieci talenti.

29 F or unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.

Poiché a chiunque ha, sarà dato ed egli sovrabbonderà; ma a chi non ha, sarà tolto anche quello che ha.

30 A nd cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

E quel servo inutile, gettatelo nelle tenebre di fuori. Lì ci sarà pianto e stridor di denti”. Giudizio contro le nazioni

31 W hen the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:

«Quando il Figlio dell’uomo verrà nella sua gloria con tutti gli angeli, prenderà posto sul suo trono glorioso.

32 a nd before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:

E tutte le genti saranno riunite davanti a lui ed egli separerà gli uni dagli altri, come il pastore separa le pecore dai capri;

33 a nd he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.

e metterà le pecore alla sua destra e i capri alla sinistra.

34 T hen shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

Allora il re dirà a quelli della sua destra: “Venite, voi, i benedetti del Padre mio; ereditate il regno che v’è stato preparato fin dalla fondazione del mondo.

35 f or I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

Perché ebbi fame e mi deste da mangiare; ebbi sete e mi deste da bere; fui straniero e mi accoglieste;

36 n aked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

fui nudo e mi vestiste; fui ammalato e mi visitaste; fui in prigione e veniste a trovarmi”.

37 T hen shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

Allora i giusti gli risponderanno: “Signore, quando mai ti abbiamo visto affamato e ti abbiamo dato da mangiare? O assetato e ti abbiamo dato da bere?

38 W hen saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee ?

Quando mai ti abbiamo visto straniero e ti abbiamo accolto? O nudo e ti abbiamo vestito?

39 O r when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

Quando mai ti abbiamo visto ammalato o in prigione e siamo venuti a trovarti?”

40 A nd the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

E il re risponderà loro: “In verità vi dico che in quanto lo avete fatto a uno di questi miei minimi fratelli, l’avete fatto a me”.

41 T hen shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

Allora dirà anche a quelli della sua sinistra: “Andate via da me, maledetti, nel fuoco eterno, preparato per il diavolo e per i suoi angeli!

42 f or I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:

Perché ebbi fame e non mi deste da mangiare; ebbi sete e non mi deste da bere;

43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.

fui straniero e non m’accoglieste; nudo e non mi vestiste; malato e in prigione, e non mi visitaste”.

44 T hen shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?

Allora anche questi risponderanno, dicendo: “Signore, quando ti abbiamo visto aver fame, o sete, o essere straniero, o nudo, o ammalato, o in prigione, e non ti abbiamo assistito?”

45 T hen shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.

Allora risponderà loro: “In verità vi dico che in quanto non l’avete fatto a uno di questi minimi, non l’avete fatto neppure a me”.

46 A nd these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

Questi se ne andranno a punizione eterna; ma i giusti a vita eterna».
