1 T hen we turned, and went up the way to Bashan: and Og the king of Bashan came out against us, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei.

«Poi ci voltammo e salimmo per la via di Basan. Og, re di Basan, con tutta la sua gente, uscì contro di noi per darci battaglia a Edrei.

2 A nd the Lord said unto me, Fear him not: for I will deliver him, and all his people, and his land, into thy hand; and thou shalt do unto him as thou didst unto Sihon king of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heshbon.

Il Signore mi disse: “Non lo temere, perché io ti do nelle mani lui, tutta la sua gente e il suo paese; tu farai a lui quel che facesti a Sicon, re degli Amorei, che abitava a Chesbon”.

3 S o the Lord our God delivered into our hands Og also, the king of Bashan, and all his people: and we smote him until none was left to him remaining.

Così il Signore, il nostro Dio, diede in nostro potere anche Og, re di Basan, con tutta la sua gente. Noi li battemmo in maniera tale che nessuno rimase in vita.

4 A nd we took all his cities at that time, there was not a city which we took not from them, threescore cities, all the region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan.

Gli prendemmo in quel tempo tutte le sue città. Non ci fu città che noi non prendessimo loro: sessanta città, tutta la regione di Argob, il regno di Og in Basan.

5 A ll these cities were fenced with high walls, gates, and bars; beside unwalled towns a great many.

Tutte queste città erano fortificate, con alte mura, porte e sbarre, senza contare le città aperte, ch’erano in grandissimo numero.

6 A nd we utterly destroyed them, as we did unto Sihon king of Heshbon, utterly destroying the men, women, and children, of every city.

Noi le votammo allo sterminio, come avevamo fatto con Sicon, re di Chesbon; votammo allo sterminio ogni città: uomini, donne, bambini.

7 B ut all the cattle, and the spoil of the cities, we took for a prey to ourselves.

Ma riservammo come nostra preda tutto il bestiame e le spoglie delle città.

8 A nd we took at that time out of the hand of the two kings of the Amorites the land that was on this side Jordan, from the river of Arnon unto mount Hermon;

In quel tempo dunque prendemmo ai due re degli Amorei il paese che è di là dal Giordano, dalla valle dell’Arnon al monte Ermon,

9 ( which Hermon the Sidonians call Sirion; and the Amorites call it Shenir;)

il quale Ermon è chiamato Sirion dai Sidoniti e Senir dagli Amorei,

10 a ll the cities of the plain, and all Gilead, and all Bashan, unto Salchah and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan.

tutte le città della pianura, tutto Galaad, tutto Basan fino a Salca e a Edrei, città del regno di Og in Basan.

11 F or only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of giants; behold, his bedstead was a bedstead of iron; is it not in Rabbath of the children of Ammon? nine cubits was the length thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man.

12 A nd this land, which we possessed at that time, from Aroer, which is by the river Arnon, and half mount Gilead, and the cities thereof, gave I unto the Reubenites and to the Gadites.

«Fu allora che c’impossessammo di questo paese. Io diedi ai Rubeniti e ai Gaditi il territorio che inizia ad Aroer, presso la valle dell’Arnon, e la metà della regione montuosa di Galaad con le sue città.

13 A nd the rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, being the kingdom of Og, gave I unto the half tribe of Manasseh; all the region of Argob, with all Bashan, which was called the land of giants.

Alla mezza tribù di Manasse diedi il resto di Galaad e tutto il regno di Og in Basan: tutta la regione di Argob con tutto Basan, che si chiamava il paese dei Refaim.

14 J air the son of Manasseh took all the country of Argob unto the coasts of Geshuri and Maachathi; and called them after his own name, Bashan-havoth-jair, unto this day.

Iair, figlio di Manasse, prese tutta la regione di Argob, fino ai confini dei Ghesuriti e dei Maacatiti, e chiamò con il suo nome i borghi di Basan, che si chiamano anche oggi Borghi di Iair.

15 A nd I gave Gilead unto Machir.

E diedi Galaad a Machir.

16 A nd unto the Reubenites and unto the Gadites I gave from Gilead even unto the river Arnon half the valley, and the border even unto the river Jabbok, which is the border of the children of Ammon;

Ai Rubeniti e ai Gaditi diedi una parte di Galaad e il paese fino alla valle dell’Arnon, fino alla metà della valle che serve di confine, e fino al torrente Iabboc, frontiera dei figli di Ammon,

17 t he plain also, and Jordan, and the coast thereof, from Chinnereth even unto the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, under Ashdoth-pisgah eastward.

e la pianura con il Giordano che ne segna il confine, da Chinneret fino al mare della pianura, il mar Salato, sotto le pendici del Pisga, verso oriente.

18 A nd I commanded you at that time, saying, The Lord your God hath given you this land to possess it: ye shall pass over armed before your brethren the children of Israel, all that are meet for the war.

In quel tempo io vi diedi quest’ordine: “Il Signore, il vostro Dio, vi ha dato questo paese perché lo possediate. Tutti voi, uomini valorosi, marcerete armati alla testa dei figli d’Israele, vostri fratelli.

19 B ut your wives, and your little ones, and your cattle, ( for I know that ye have much cattle,) shall abide in your cities which I have given you;

Ma le vostre mogli, i vostri bambini e il vostro bestiame (so che di bestiame ne avete molto) rimarranno nelle città che vi ho date,

20 u ntil the Lord have given rest unto your brethren, as well as unto you, and until they also possess the land which the Lord your God hath given them beyond Jordan: and then shall ye return every man unto his possession, which I have given you.

finché il Signore abbia dato riposo ai vostri fratelli, come ha fatto a voi, e prendano anch’essi possesso del paese che il Signore, il vostro Dio, dà loro di là dal Giordano. Poi ciascuno tornerà nella proprietà che io vi ho data”.

21 A nd I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, Thine eyes have seen all that the Lord your God hath done unto these two kings: so shall the Lord do unto all the kingdoms whither thou passest.

In quel tempo diedi anche a Giosuè quest’ordine: “I tuoi occhi hanno visto tutto quello che il Signore, il vostro Dio, ha fatto a questi due re; il Signore farà la stessa cosa a tutti i regni nei quali tu stai per entrare.

22 Y e shall not fear them: for the Lord your God he shall fight for you.

Non li temete, perché il Signore, il vostro Dio, combatterà per voi”. Mosè non potrà entrare nella terra promessa

23 A nd I besought the Lord at that time, saying,

«In quel medesimo tempo io supplicai il Signore e dissi:

24 O Lord God, thou hast begun to shew thy servant thy greatness, and thy mighty hand: for what God is there in heaven or in earth, that can do according to thy works, and according to thy might?

“Signore, Dio, tu hai cominciato a mostrare al tuo servo la tua grandezza e la tua mano potente; poiché quale dio, in cielo o sulla terra, può fare opere e prodigi pari a quelli che fai tu?

25 I pray thee, let me go over, and see the good land that is beyond Jordan, that goodly mountain, and Lebanon.

Ti prego, lascia che io passi e veda il bel paese che è oltre il Giordano, la bella regione montuosa e il Libano!”

26 B ut the Lord was wroth with me for your sakes, and would not hear me: and the Lord said unto me, Let it suffice thee; speak no more unto me of this matter.

Ma il Signore si adirò contro di me per causa vostra, e non mi esaudì. Il Signore mi disse: “Basta così; non parlarmi più di questo.

27 G et thee up into the top of Pisgah, and lift up thine eyes westward, and northward, and southward, and eastward, and behold it with thine eyes: for thou shalt not go over this Jordan.

Sali in vetta al Pisga, volgi lo sguardo a occidente, a settentrione, a mezzogiorno e a oriente, e contempla il paese con i tuoi occhi; poiché tu non passerai questo Giordano.

28 B ut charge Joshua, and encourage him, and strengthen him: for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which thou shalt see.

Ma da’ i tuoi ordini a Giosuè, fortificalo e incoraggialo, perché sarà lui che lo passerà alla testa di questo popolo e metterà Israele in possesso del paese che vedrai”.

29 S o we abode in the valley over against Beth-peor.

Così ci fermammo nella valle di fronte a Bet-Peor.
