1 O give thanks unto the Lord; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people.

Celebrate il Signore, invocate il suo nome; fate conoscere i suoi prodigi tra i popoli.

2 S ing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works.

Cantate e salmeggiate a lui, meditate su tutte le sue meraviglie.

3 G lory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the Lord.

Esultate per il suo santo nome; gioisca il cuore di quanti cercano il Signore!

4 S eek the Lord, and his strength: seek his face evermore.

Cercate il Signore e la sua forza, cercate sempre il suo volto!

5 R emember his marvellous works that he hath done; his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth;

Ricordatevi dei prodigi fatti da lui, dei suoi miracoli e dei giudizi della sua bocca,

6 O ye seed of Abraham his servant, ye children of Jacob his chosen.

voi, figli di Abraamo, suo servo, discendenza di Giacobbe, suoi eletti!

7 H e is the Lord our God: his judgments are in all the earth.

Egli, il Signore, è il nostro Dio; i suoi giudizi si estendono su tutta la terra.

8 H e hath remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations.

Egli si ricorda per sempre del suo patto, della parola da lui data per mille generazioni,

9 W hich covenant he made with Abraham, and his oath unto Isaac;

del patto che fece con Abraamo, del giuramento che fece a Isacco,

10 a nd confirmed the same unto Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant:

che confermò a Giacobbe come uno statuto, a Israele come un patto eterno,

11 s aying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance:

dicendo: «Ti darò il paese di Canaan come vostra eredità».

12 w hen they were but a few men in number; yea, very few, and strangers in it.

Non erano allora che poca gente, pochissimi e stranieri nel paese,

13 W hen they went from one nation to another, from one kingdom to another people;

e andavano da una nazione all’altra, da un regno a un altro popolo.

14 h e suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he reproved kings for their sakes;

Egli non permise che alcuno li opprimesse; per amor loro castigò dei re,

15 s aying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.

dicendo: «Non toccate i miei unti e non fate alcun male ai miei profeti».

16 M oreover he called for a famine upon the land: he brake the whole staff of bread.

Poi chiamò la carestia nel paese e fece mancare il pane che li sostentava.

17 H e sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant:

Mandò davanti a loro un uomo, Giuseppe, che fu venduto come schiavo.

18 w hose feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron:

Gli legarono i piedi con ceppi; fu oppresso con catene di ferro.

19 u ntil the time that his word came: the word of the Lord tried him.

Fino al tempo in cui si avverò quanto aveva predetto, la parola del Signore lo affinò.

20 T he king sent and loosed him; even the ruler of the people, and let him go free.

Il re lo fece slegare, il dominatore di popoli lo liberò;

21 H e made him lord of his house, and ruler of all his substance:

lo stabilì signore della sua casa e governatore di tutti i suoi beni,

22 t o bind his princes at his pleasure; and teach his senators wisdom.

per istruire i prìncipi secondo il suo giudizio e insegnare ai suoi anziani la sapienza.

23 I srael also came into Egypt; and Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham.

Allora Israele venne in Egitto e Giacobbe soggiornò nel paese di Cam.

24 A nd he increased his people greatly; and made them stronger than their enemies.

Dio moltiplicò grandemente il suo popolo e lo rese più potente dei suoi avversari.

25 H e turned their heart to hate his people, to deal subtilly with his servants.

Poi mutò il cuore di questi; essi odiarono il suo popolo e tramarono inganni contro i suoi servi.

26 H e sent Moses his servant; and Aaron whom he had chosen.

Egli mandò Mosè, suo servo, e Aaronne, che aveva scelto.

27 T hey shewed his signs among them, and wonders in the land of Ham.

Essi operarono in mezzo a loro i miracoli da lui ordinati, fecero dei prodigi nella terra di Cam.

28 H e sent darkness, and made it dark; and they rebelled not against his word.

Mandò le tenebre e si fece buio, eppure non osservarono le sue parole.

29 H e turned their waters into blood, and slew their fish.

Cambiò le acque in sangue e fece morire i loro pesci.

30 T heir land brought forth frogs in abundance, in the chambers of their kings.

La terra brulicò di rane, fin nelle camere dei loro re.

31 H e spake, and there came divers sorts of flies, and lice in all their coasts.

Egli parlò, e vennero mosche velenose e zanzare in tutto il loro territorio.

32 H e gave them hail for rain, and flaming fire in their land.

Mandò loro grandine invece di pioggia, fiamme di fuoco sul loro paese.

33 H e smote their vines also and their fig trees; and brake the trees of their coasts.

Colpì le loro vigne e i loro fichi e spezzò gli alberi del loro territorio.

34 H e spake, and the locusts came, and caterpillers, and that without number,

Egli parlò, e vennero cavallette e bruchi innumerevoli,

35 a nd did eat up all the herbs in their land, and devoured the fruit of their ground.

che divorarono tutta l’erba del paese e mangiarono il frutto della loro terra.

36 H e smote also all the firstborn in their land, the chief of all their strength.

Poi colpì tutti i primogeniti nel loro paese, le primizie del loro vigore.

37 H e brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble person among their tribes.

E fece uscire gli Israeliti con argento e oro e nessuno vacillò nelle sue tribù.

38 E gypt was glad when they departed: for the fear of them fell upon them.

Gli Egiziani si rallegrarono della loro partenza, perché erano presi da terrore a causa loro.

39 H e spread a cloud for a covering; and fire to give light in the night.

Egli distese una nuvola per ripararli e accese un fuoco per illuminarli di notte.

40 T he people asked, and he brought quails, and satisfied them with the bread of heaven.

A loro richiesta fece venire delle quaglie e li saziò con il pane del cielo.

41 H e opened the rock, and the waters gushed out; they ran in the dry places like a river.

Aprì la roccia e ne scaturirono acque: esse scorrevano come fiume nel deserto.

42 F or he remembered his holy promise, and Abraham his servant.

Egli si ricordò della sua santa parola e anche di Abraamo, suo servo.

43 A nd he brought forth his people with joy, and his chosen with gladness:

Fece uscire il suo popolo con letizia e i suoi eletti con grida di gioia.

44 a nd gave them the lands of the heathen: and they inherited the labour of the people;

Diede loro le terre delle nazioni ed essi ereditarono il frutto della fatica dei popoli,

45 t hat they might observe his statutes, and keep his laws. Praise ye the Lord.

perché osservassero i suoi statuti e ubbidissero alle sue leggi. Alleluia.
