1 M on coeur est tout tremblant, Il bondit hors de sa place.

Aye, my heart trembleth at this also, and leapeth up out of its place:

2 É coutez, écoutez le frémissement de sa voix, Le grondement qui sort de sa bouche!

Hear attentively the roar of his voice, and the murmur going forth from his mouth.

3 I l le fait rouler dans toute l'étendue des cieux, Et son éclair brille jusqu'aux extrémités de la terre.

He sendeth it forth under the whole heaven, and his lightning unto the ends of the earth.

4 P uis éclate un rugissement: il tonne de sa voix majestueuse; Il ne retient plus l'éclair, dès que sa voix retentit.

After it a voice roareth: he thundereth with the voice of his excellency, and holdeth not back the flashes when his voice is heard.

5 D ieu tonne avec sa voix d'une manière merveilleuse; Il fait de grandes choses que nous ne comprenons pas.

God thundereth marvellously with his voice, doing great things which we do not comprehend.

6 I l dit à la neige: Tombe sur la terre! Il le dit à la pluie, même aux plus fortes pluies.

For he saith to the snow, Fall on the earth! and to the pouring rain, even the pouring rains of his might.

7 I l met un sceau sur la main de tous les hommes, Afin que tous se reconnaissent comme ses créatures.

He sealeth up the hand of every man; that all men may know his work.

8 L 'animal sauvage se retire dans une caverne, Et se couche dans sa tanière.

And the wild beast goeth into its lair, and they remain in their dens.

9 L 'ouragan vient du midi, Et le froid, des vents du nord.

From the chamber cometh the whirlwind; and cold from the winds of the north.

10 P ar son souffle Dieu produit la glace, Il réduit l'espace où se répandaient les eaux.

By the breath of God ice is given; and the breadth of the waters is straitened.

11 I l charge de vapeurs les nuages, Il les disperse étincelants;

Also with plentiful moisture he loadeth the thick clouds, his light dispels the cloud;

12 L eurs évolutions varient selon ses desseins, Pour l'accomplissement de tout ce qu'il leur ordonne, Sur la face de la terre habitée;

And they are turned every way by his guidance, that they may do whatsoever he commandeth them upon the face of the circuit of the earth,

13 C 'est comme une verge dont il frappe sa terre, Ou comme un signe de son amour, qu'il les fait apparaître.

Whether he cause it to come as a rod, or for his land, or in mercy.

14 J ob, sois attentif à ces choses! Considère encore les merveilles de Dieu!

Hearken unto this, Job; stand still and discern the wondrous works of God.

15 S ais-tu comment Dieu les dirige, Et fait briller son nuage étincelant?

Dost thou know how +God hath disposed them, and how he causeth the lightning of his cloud to flash?

16 C omprends-tu le balancement des nuées, Les merveilles de celui dont la science est parfaite?

Dost thou know about the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him that is perfect in knowledge?

17 S ais-tu pourquoi tes vêtements sont chauds Quand la terre se repose par le vent du midi?

How thy garments become warm when he quieteth the earth by the south wind?

18 P eux-tu comme lui étendre les cieux, Aussi solides qu'un miroir de fonte?

Hast thou with him spread out the sky, firm, like a molten mirror?

19 F ais-nous connaître ce que nous devons lui dire; Nous sommes trop ignorants pour nous adresser à lui.

Teach us what we shall say unto him! We cannot order by reason of darkness.

20 L ui annoncera-t-on que je parlerai? Mais quel est l'homme qui désire sa perte?

Shall it be told him if I would speak? if a man say, surely he shall be swallowed up.

21 O n ne peut fixer le soleil qui resplendit dans les cieux, Lorsqu'un vent passe et en ramène la pureté;

And now see not the light as it gleameth, it is in the skies. But the wind passeth by and cleareth them.

22 L e septentrion le rend éclatant comme l'or. Oh! que la majesté de Dieu est redoutable!

From the north cometh gold; with +God is terrible majesty.

23 N ous ne saurions parvenir jusqu'au Tout Puissant, Grand par la force, Par la justice, par le droit souverain: Il ne répond pas!

The Almighty, we cannot find him out: excellent in power, and in judgment, and in abundance of justice, he doth not afflict.

24 C 'est pourquoi les hommes doivent le craindre; Il ne porte les regards sur aucun sage.

Men do therefore fear him: he respecteth not any that are wise of heart.
