1 A s snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a fool.

Responde al loco mostrándole su locura, para que no se estime sabio en su opinión.

6 H e that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off the feet, and drinketh damage.

¶ El que da un cargo al que no tiene facultad para ejercitarlo, es el que envía algo por mano del loco; y beberá el daño.

7 T he legs of the lame are not equal: so is a parable in the mouth of fools.

Así como camina el cojo; es el proverbio en la boca del loco.

8 A s he that bindeth a stone in a sling, so is he that giveth honour to a fool.

Como quien liga la piedra en la honda, así es el que da honra al loco.

9 A s a thorn goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouths of fools.

Espinas hincadas en mano del embriagado, tal es el proverbio en la boca de los locos.

10 T he great God that formed all things both rewardeth the fool, and rewardeth transgressors.

¶ El gran Dios cría todas las cosas; y al loco da la paga, y a los transgresores da el salario.

11 A s a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.

¶ Como perro que vuelve a su vómito, así el loco que repite su locura.

12 S eest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.

¶ ¿Has visto hombre sabio en su propia opinión? Más esperanza hay del loco que de él.

13 T he slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets.

¶ Dice el perezoso: El león está en el camino; el león está en las calles.

14 A s the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed.

¶ Las puertas se revuelven en sus quicios; así el perezoso en su cama.

15 T he slothful hideth his hand in his bosom; it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth.

¶ Esconde el perezoso su mano en el seno; se cansa de volverla a su boca.

16 T he sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.

¶ Más sabio es el perezoso en su propia opinión que siete que le den consejo.

17 H e that passeth by, and meddleth with strife belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears.

¶ El que pasando se deja llevar de la ira en pleito ajeno, es como el que toma al perro por las orejas.

18 A s a mad man who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death,

¶ Como el que enloquece, y echa llamas, y saetas, y muerte,

19 S o is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport?

tal es el hombre que daña a su amigo, y dice: Ciertamente lo hice por broma.

20 W here no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.

¶ Sin leña se apaga el fuego; y donde no hay chismoso, cesa la contienda.

21 A s coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife.

El carbón para brasas, y la leña para el fuego; y el hombre rencilloso para encender contienda.

22 T he words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

Las palabras del chismoso parecen blandas; mas ellas entran hasta lo secreto del vientre.

23 B urning lips and a wicked heart are like a potsherd covered with silver dross.

¶ Como escoria de plata echada sobre el tiesto, son los labios enardecidos y el corazón malo.

24 H e that hateth dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him;

¶ El que odia disimula con sus labios; mas en su interior maquina engaño.

25 W hen he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart.

Cuando hablare amigablemente, no le creas; porque siete abominaciones hay en su corazón.

26 W hose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shewed before the whole congregation.

Aunque su odio se encubre en el desierto; su malicia será descubierta en la congregación.

27 W hoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.

¶ El que cavare sima, caerá en ella; y el que revuelve la piedra, a él volverá.

28 A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.

¶ La falsa lengua aborrece al que atormenta; y la boca lisonjera hace resbaladero.
