1 I n those days there was no king in Israel: and in those days the tribe of the Danites sought them an inheritance to dwell in; for unto that day all their inheritance had not fallen unto them among the tribes of Israel.

¶ En aquellos días no había rey en Israel. Y en aquellos días la tribu de Dan buscaba posesión para sí donde morar, porque hasta entonces no le había caído su suerte entre las tribus de Israel por heredad.

2 A nd the children of Dan sent of their family five men from their coasts, men of valour, from Zorah, and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land, and to search it; and they said unto them, Go, search the land: who when they came to mount Ephraim, to the house of Micah, they lodged there.

Y los hijos de Dan enviaron de su familia cinco hombres de sus términos, hombres valientes, de Zora y Estaol, para que reconocieran y exploraran bien la tierra; y les dijeron: Id y reconoced la tierra. Estos vinieron al monte de Efraín, hasta la casa de Micaía, y allí posaron.

3 W hen they were by the house of Micah, they knew the voice of the young man the Levite: and they turned in thither, and said unto him, Who brought thee hither? and what makest thou in this place? and what hast thou here?

Y cuando estaban cerca de la casa de Micaía, reconocieron el acento de la voz del joven levita; y acercándose allá, le dijeron: ¿Quién te ha traído por acá? ¿Y qué haces aquí? ¿Y qué tienes tú por aquí?

4 A nd he said unto them, Thus and thus dealeth Micah with me, and hath hired me, and I am his priest.

Y él les respondió: De esta y de esta manera ha hecho conmigo Micaía, y me ha tomado para que sea su sacerdote.

5 A nd they said unto him, Ask counsel, we pray thee, of God, that we may know whether our way which we go shall be prosperous.

Y ellos le dijeron: Pregunta, pues, ahora a Dios, para que sepamos si ha de prosperar nuestro viaje que hacemos.

6 A nd the priest said unto them, Go in peace: before the Lord is your way wherein ye go.

Y el sacerdote les respondió: Id en paz, que vuestro viaje que hacéis es delante del SEÑOR.

7 T hen the five men departed, and came to Laish, and saw the people that were therein, how they dwelt careless, after the manner of the Zidonians, quiet and secure; and there was no magistrate in the land, that might put them to shame in any thing; and they were far from the Zidonians, and had no business with any man.

¶ Entonces aquellos cinco hombres partieron, y vinieron a Lais; y vieron que el pueblo que habitaba en ella estaba seguro, ocioso y confiado, conforme a la costumbre de los de Sidón; no había nadie en aquella tierra que los perturbara en cosa alguna para poseer aquella tierra; además de esto, estaban lejos de los sidonios, y no tenían negocios con nadie.

8 A nd they came unto their brethren to Zorah and Eshtaol: and their brethren said unto them, What say ye?

Volviendo, pues, ellos a sus hermanos en Zora y Estaol, sus hermanos les dijeron: ¿Qué hay? Y ellos respondieron:

9 A nd they said, Arise, that we may go up against them: for we have seen the land, and, behold, it is very good: and are ye still? be not slothful to go, and to enter to possess the land.

Levantaos, subamos contra ellos; porque nosotros hemos explorado la región, y hemos visto que es muy buena; ¿y vosotros cómo no os movéis? No seáis perezosos en poneros en marcha para ir a poseer la tierra.

10 W hen ye go, ye shall come unto a people secure, and to a large land: for God hath given it into your hands; a place where there is no want of any thing that is in the earth.

Cuando allá llegaréis, vendréis a una gente segura, y a una tierra de ancho asiento; pues que Dios la ha entregado en vuestras manos; lugar donde no hay falta de cosa que sea en la tierra.

11 A nd there went from thence of the family of the Danites, out of Zorah and out of Eshtaol, six hundred men appointed with weapons of war.

Y partiendo los de Dan de allí, de Zora y de Estaol, seiscientos hombres armados de armas de guerra,

12 A nd they went up, and pitched in Kirjathjearim, in Judah: wherefore they called that place Mahanehdan unto this day: behold, it is behind Kirjathjearim.

fueron y asentaron campamento en Quiriat-jearim, en Judá; de donde aquel lugar fue llamado el campamento de Dan, hasta hoy; está detrás de Quiriat-jearim.

13 A nd they passed thence unto mount Ephraim, and came unto the house of Micah.

Y pasando de allí al monte de Efraín, vinieron hasta la casa de Micaía.

14 T hen answered the five men that went to spy out the country of Laish, and said unto their brethren, Do ye know that there is in these houses an ephod, and teraphim, and a graven image, and a molten image? now therefore consider what ye have to do.

¶ Entonces aquellos cinco hombres que habían ido a reconocer la tierra de Lais, dijeron a sus hermanos: ¿No sabéis que en estas casas hay un efod y terafines, e imagen de talla y una de fundición? Mirad, pues, lo que habéis de hacer.

15 A nd they turned thitherward, and came to the house of the young man the Levite, even unto the house of Micah, and saluted him.

Y acercándose allá, vinieron a la casa del joven levita, hasta la casa de Micaía, y le preguntaron cómo estaba.

16 A nd the six hundred men appointed with their weapons of war, which were of the children of Dan, stood by the entering of the gate.

Y los seiscientos hombres, que eran de los hijos de Dan, estaban armados de sus armas de guerra a la entrada de la puerta.

17 A nd the five men that went to spy out the land went up, and came in thither, and took the graven image, and the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image: and the priest stood in the entering of the gate with the six hundred men that were appointed with weapons of war.

Y subiendo los cinco hombres que habían ido a reconocer la tierra, entraron allá, y tomaron la imagen de talla, y el efod, y los terafines, y la imagen de fundición, mientras estaba el sacerdote a la entrada de la puerta con los seiscientos hombres armados de armas de guerra.

18 A nd these went into Micah's house, and fetched the carved image, the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image. Then said the priest unto them, What do ye?

Entrando, pues, aquellos en la casa de Micaía, tomaron la imagen de talla, el efod, y el terafín, y la imagen de fundición. Y el sacerdote les dijo: ¿Qué hacéis vosotros?

19 A nd they said unto him, Hold thy peace, lay thine hand upon thy mouth, and go with us, and be to us a father and a priest: is it better for thee to be a priest unto the house of one man, or that thou be a priest unto a tribe and a family in Israel?

Y ellos le respondieron: Calla, pon la mano sobre tu boca, y vente con nosotros, para que seas nuestro padre y sacerdote. ¿Es mejor que seas tú sacerdote en casa de un hombre solo, que de una tribu y familia de Israel?

20 A nd the priest's heart was glad, and he took the ephod, and the teraphim, and the graven image, and went in the midst of the people.

Y se alegró el corazón del sacerdote; el cual tomando el efod y los terafines, y la imagen, se vino entre la gente.

21 S o they turned and departed, and put the little ones and the cattle and the carriage before them.

Y ellos tornaron y se fueron; y pusieron los niños, y el ganado y el bagaje, delante de sí.

22 A nd when they were a good way from the house of Micah, the men that were in the houses near to Micah's house were gathered together, and overtook the children of Dan.

Y cuando ya se habían alejado de la casa de Micaía, los hombres que habitaban en las casas cercanas a la casa de Micaía, se juntaron, y siguieron a los hijos de Dan.

23 A nd they cried unto the children of Dan. And they turned their faces, and said unto Micah, What aileth thee, that thou comest with such a company?

Y dando voces a los de Dan, éstos volvieron sus rostros, y dijeron a Micaía: ¿Qué tienes que has juntado gente?

24 A nd he said, Ye have taken away my gods which I made, and the priest, and ye are gone away: and what have I more? and what is this that ye say unto me, What aileth thee?

Y él respondió: Mis dioses que yo hice, que lleváis juntamente con el sacerdote, y os vais; ¿qué más me queda? ¿Y a qué propósito me decís: Qué tienes?

25 A nd the children of Dan said unto him, Let not thy voice be heard among us, lest angry fellows run upon thee, and thou lose thy life, with the lives of thy household.

Y los hijos de Dan le dijeron: No des voces tras nosotros, que por ventura los varones de ánimo colérico os acometan, y pierdas también tu vida, y la vida de los tuyos.

26 A nd the children of Dan went their way: and when Micah saw that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back unto his house.

Y yéndose los hijos de Dan su camino, y viendo Micaía que eran más fuertes que él, volvió y regresó a su casa.

27 A nd they took the things which Micah had made, and the priest which he had, and came unto Laish, unto a people that were at quiet and secure: and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and burnt the city with fire.

¶ Y ellos llevando las cosas que había hecho Micaía, juntamente con el sacerdote que tenía, llegaron a Lais, al pueblo reposado y seguro; y los metieron a espada, y abrasaron la ciudad con fuego.

28 A nd there was no deliverer, because it was far from Zidon, and they had no business with any man; and it was in the valley that lieth by Bethrehob. And they built a city, and dwelt therein.

Y no hubo quien los defendiera, porque estaban lejos de Sidón, y no tenían comercio con nadie. Y la ciudad estaba en el valle que hay en Bet-rehob. Luego reedificaron la ciudad, y habitaron en ella.

29 A nd they called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father, who was born unto Israel: howbeit the name of the city was Laish at the first.

Y llamaron el nombre de aquella ciudad Dan, conforme al nombre de Dan su padre, engendrado de Israel, bien que antes se llamaba la ciudad Lais.

30 A nd the children of Dan set up the graven image: and Jonathan, the son of Gershom, the son of Manasseh, he and his sons were priests to the tribe of Dan until the day of the captivity of the land.

Y los hijos de Dan se levantaron imagen de talla; y Jonatán, hijo de Gersón, hijo de Manasés, él y sus hijos fueron sacerdotes a la tribu de Dan, hasta el día de la transmigración de la tierra.

31 A nd they set them up Micah's graven image, which he made, all the time that the house of God was in Shiloh.

Y levantaron la imagen de talla de Micaía, la cual él había hecho, todo el tiempo que la casa de Dios estuvo en Silo.
