1 I n that day shall this song be sung in the land of Judah: We have a strong city; salvation doth he appoint for walls and bulwarks.

En ce jour, on chantera ce cantique dans le pays de Juda: Nous avons une ville forte; Il nous donne le salut pour murailles et pour rempart.

2 O pen ye the gates, and the righteous nation which keepeth faithfulness shall enter in.

Ouvrez les portes, Laissez entrer la nation juste et fidèle.

3 T hou wilt keep in perfect peace the mind stayed, for he confideth in thee.

A celui qui est ferme dans ses sentiments Tu assures la paix, la paix, Parce qu'il se confie en toi.

4 C onfide ye in Jehovah for ever; for in Jah, Jehovah, is the rock of ages.

Confiez-vous en l'Éternel à perpétuité, Car l'Éternel, l'Éternel est le rocher des siècles.

5 F or he bringeth down them that dwell on high; the lofty city, he layeth it low, he layeth it low to the ground, he bringeth it even to the dust.

Il a renversé ceux qui habitaient les hauteurs, Il a abaissé la ville superbe; Il l'a abaissée jusqu'à terre, Il lui a fait toucher la poussière.

6 T he foot shall tread it down,—the feet of the afflicted, the steps of the poor.

Elle est foulée aux pieds, Aux pieds des pauvres, sous les pas des misérables.

7 T he way of the just is uprightness: thou, the Upright, dost make the path of the just even.

Le chemin du juste est la droiture; Toi qui es juste, tu aplanis le sentier du juste.

8 Y ea, in the way of thy judgments, O Jehovah, have we waited for thee; the desire of soul is to thy name, and to thy memorial.

Aussi nous t'attendons, ô Éternel! sur la voie de tes jugements; Notre âme soupire après ton nom et après ton souvenir.

9 W ith my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me I seek thee early: for when thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.

Mon âme te désire pendant la nuit, Et mon esprit te cherche au dedans de moi; Car, lorsque tes jugements s'exercent sur la terre, Les habitants du monde apprennent la justice.

10 I f favour be shewn to the wicked, he doth not learn righteousness: in the land of uprightness he dealeth unjustly, and beholdeth not the majesty of Jehovah.

Si l'on fait grâce au méchant, il n'apprend pas la justice, Il se livre au mal dans le pays de la droiture, Et il n'a point égard à la majesté de Dieu.

11 J ehovah, thy hand is lifted up, but they do not see: they shall see jealousy the people, and be ashamed; yea, the fire which is for thine adversaries shall devour them.

Éternel, ta main est puissante: Ils ne l'aperçoivent pas. Ils verront ton zèle pour le peuple, et ils en seront confus; Le feu consumera tes ennemis.

12 J ehovah, thou wilt ordain peace for us; for thou also hast wrought all our works for us.

Éternel, tu nous donnes la paix; Car tout ce que nous faisons, C'est toi qui l'accomplis pour nous.

13 J ehovah our God, other lords than thee have had dominion over us; by thee only will we make mention of thy name.

Éternel, notre Dieu, d'autres maîtres que toi ont dominé sur nous; Mais c'est grâce à toi seul que nous invoquons ton nom.

14 d ead, they shall not live; deceased, they shall not rise: for thou hast visited and destroyed them, and made all memory of them to perish.

Ceux qui sont morts ne revivront pas, Des ombres ne se relèveront pas; Car tu les as châtiés, tu les as anéantis, Et tu en as détruit tout souvenir.

15 T hou hast increased the nation, Jehovah, thou hast increased the nation: thou art glorified. Thou hadst removed far all the ends of the earth.

Multiplie le peuple, ô Éternel! Multiplie le peuple, manifeste ta gloire; Recule toutes les limites du pays.

16 J ehovah, in trouble they sought thee; they poured out whispered prayer when thy chastening was upon them.

Éternel, ils t'ont cherché, quand ils étaient dans la détresse; Ils se sont répandus en prières, quand tu les as châtiés.

17 A s a woman with child, that draweth near her delivery, is in travail, crieth out in her pangs; so have we been before thee, Jehovah.

Comme une femme enceinte, sur le point d'accoucher, Se tord et crie au milieu de ses douleurs, Ainsi avons-nous été, loin de ta face, ô Éternel!

18 W e have been with child, we have been in travail, we have as it were brought forth wind; we have not wrought the deliverance of the land, neither have the inhabitants of the world fallen.

Nous avons conçu, nous avons éprouvé des douleurs, Et, quand nous enfantons, ce n'est que du vent: Le pays n'est pas sauvé, Et ses habitants ne sont pas nés.

19 T hy dead shall live, my dead bodies shall arise. Awake and sing in triumph, ye that dwell in dust; for thy dew is the dew of the morning, and the earth shall cast forth the dead.

Que tes morts revivent! Que mes cadavres se relèvent! -Réveillez-vous et tressaillez de joie, habitants de la poussière! Car ta rosée est une rosée vivifiante, Et la terre redonnera le jour aux ombres.

20 C ome, my people, enter into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee; hide thyself just for a little moment, until the indignation be past.

Va, mon peuple, entre dans ta chambre, Et ferme la porte derrière toi; Cache-toi pour quelques instants, Jusqu'à ce que la colère soit passée.

21 F or behold, Jehovah cometh out of his place to visit the iniquity of the inhabitants of the earth upon them; and the earth shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.

Car voici, l'Éternel sort de sa demeure, Pour punir les crimes des habitants de la terre; Et la terre mettra le sang à nu, Elle ne couvrira plus les meurtres.
